We've played last seasons top 3 already and sit 5th

Great start to the season. Such a shame about the Burnley debacle.

We look devastating around the box.
Scored 4 or more in 3 out of our first 5 games.

Threat everywhere. Henderson back on form, Mane amazing, Lallana looking the player I always wanted, Milner brilliant.

Just great stuff

We're 5th like, but yeah...

In the final third we look as good as anything I've ever seen.

At the back, though, there's still that nerviness and lack of conviction that will see us invite pressure and concede goals. That needs to be addressed.

We've got Chelsea away this week. Lose that and it's 7 points from 5 games (albeit tough ones) and it doesn't look so good

We need to show more steel at the back, and start dispatching the lesser teams before I genuinely get excited about our chances.

Great performance today, though.

Klopp needs to show balls and keep cou on the bench. He don't deserve to be back in the team.

We attack with menace, always looking likely to score.

Defensively we look nervous and fuck around with it too much, we need to stop this short passing from goalkicks.

Firmino and Mané looked world class.
Matip and Lucas played well, besides the 1 brain fart.
Mignolet still constantly flapping.
Hendo did well, should've scored.
Coutinho needs to stop shooting from 30 yards, took him 40 odd seconds to try a long ranger. It distrusts our style of play and is too predictable.
Milner looked solid.

And Leicester are shite. They'll finish in the bottom half this season, maybe even get drawn into a relegation battle. Back where they belong.

^^was going to post the same. He keeps shooting from outside the box, wasting chances.

Excellent team performance. Whenever we win well people always say it's 'because the opposition didn't play well', so this time let's give credit where it's due.

Mignolet - 7 - he's really stepped up his game since Karius' arrival and he's not really let us down in any match this season.
Clyne - 6.5 - still doesn't look himself but this was much better.
Matip - 7.5 - clearly our best CB, calm, collected and almost always in control.
Lucas - 7 - that would have been 8 but for the brainfart because otherwise he had a damn good game.
Milner - 7 - covered Mahrez with aplomb and was always available and dangerous going forward.
Henderson - 8 - this is the Hendo of old, covered every blade of grass, good in possession and in covering and some excellent forward passing.
Wijnaldum - 6 - he looked better when Klopp had a word and pushed him forward, even getting an assist. However he still looks like a 'Plain Jane', I'm sure however that there's much more to come.
Lallana - 8 - the more I see of him playing centrally and deeper, the better he looks. His great feet enable him to keep the ball under pressure and with everything happening ahead of him he can look up and pick the right pass. He might not be the world's best tackler but his stamina and running enable him to harass and force the opposition to play.
Firmino - 8.5 - A superb cameo of everything he is good at. Great feet, keeping possession, playing others in, keeping calm under pressure and playmaking around the opposition box.
Mane - 8.5 - another great game; pace, defending back, another goal, another assist. He suits us perfectly and he already looks like he has a brilliant rapport with both Sturridge and especially Firmino.
Sturridge - 7.5 - he may not have scored but this was a superb team performance from him, constantly looking for, linking and finding his teammates. Should have scored though, two great chances, so loses a point for those misses.

Henderson was very good , especially at helping out Lucas.

Mane is certainly our player of the season , rapido, incisive, clever ,great runs.

Sturridge played very well too. Firmino took both goals very well , the first was sublime . Matip looks like a decent player.

Wijnaldum is the invisible man for too long in matches but looks classy on the ball. I'm sure that was Newcastle fans main complaint about it, utterly true early on in his LFC career .

Looking promising given we had a half fit Lucas at cb with a brand new partner

It's the modern thing to have your centre halves split and take up wide positions to receive a pass from the goalie, but it can't be right that Lucas was so deep for their goal, can it? He was almost on our byline.

What were his options even if he didn't miscontrol the ball?

Very good again today, too much being made on here by idiots that we're diabolical at the back like we're letting in 5 goals every week against the worst teams in the league, we're not. We let it 1 today, scored 4 and dominated the game. When we were put under pressure the 2nd half we dealt with it marvelously.

Mané is boss!

4 - Sadio Mane has had a hand in more goals for Liverpool this season (all comps) than any other player (2 goals, 2 assists). Difference.

14 - Today's result at Anfield was the 14th time the reigning Premier League champion has conceded 4+ goals in a single match. Humbled.

50 - @LFC have scored more Premier League goals in 2016 than any other team (50). Prolific.

8 - @LFC have scored 3+ goals eight times in the @premierleague in 2016, more than any other side. Rampant.

18 – Roberto Firmino has been directly involved in 18 goals in 35 Premier League games (11 goals, seven assists). Galvanize.

Roberto Firmino has scored 10 Premier League goals in 2016, no Liverpool player has scored more.

Adam Lallana has now scored 3 goals in his last 6 games for club and country.

He's meant to provide a goal threat from midfield and get into the box, but he's playing deep and just looks a bit pointless to me.

I think Wini looks like a technically good player playing within himself. Like he's nervous to make a mistake. Similar to Lallana and Hendo in their first seasons. Not taking enough risk with the ball.

And like the aforementioned, I think he'll take his game to a higher level as the season goes on. I think people are underestimating the impact moving to a big club like Liverpool can have on a player, even if he's played in the PL with others before. The weight of expectation can paralyse players reaching their potential (certainly at the beginning anyway). Most aren't like Torres/Suarez who hit the ground running.

I'd prefer him to just put it out, anywhere, than pass it into the penalty area.

Milner put in a pretty impressive shift at left back. In fact he made numerous runs down the wing that his teammates usually failed to exploit.

Lucas showed good character to respond to that horrendous error with a solid performance.

Matip looks very promising.

Firmino's technique is sublime - controlling that ball that fell to him fro the clouds! If he can be more consistent he'll be a major star.

Wijnaldum is an attacking player. He's had to do a lot of adapting to play in the position he's currently playing in. During the game Klopp was shouting and giving him instructions. He isn't at all comfortable with the ball that deep. He was rightly subbed. He's only playing because Can is injured imo.

I literally know nothing about Wijnaldum. Never saw him play at Newcastle, heard he'd scored a bunch of goals from midfield.

I suppose my question really revolves around the fact we spanked >£30M on him. Despite the mental inflation in the transfer market, that kind of money is still big boy territory, so when you spend that kind of money on someone you expect them to be fairly fundamental to the way you play, or fill a desperately needed position or something.

I was in a similar position with Mane - didn't know who he was, hadn't seen him play. But the first time I saw him against Barcelona it made sense - he looked exciting, pacy, dynamic. The more I see him, the more it makes sense. He offers us something we didn't really have before.

So far, from the limited amount I've seen, Wijnaldum doesn't seem to make the same kinda sense. The position he plays in didn't really seem like a priority - whether that be CM or AM (I don't actually know what position we've bought him for, hence the question about what Klopp's idea for him is) - and at the minute he doesn't look any better than what we've already got. I dunno, he kinda seems like the sort of £7M squad player Rafa would buy each year, except instead of costing £7M he cost fuckloads.

But I fully accept that I hardly watch any football and haven't got a clue about most players anymore. So my question is genuine - what is he for? What are the qualities he possesses that are (hopefully) going to make this deal worthwhile? Or have we spanked loads of money on someone who's just a bit meh?
