Poor Benteke

He looked well fucked off, can't say I blame him, we've acted like cunts to him really. And amazingly, he's still our top scorer.

Have we?!

I would say if he played like he was miffed when he got his chances on the pitch, then maybe he wouldn't be miffed on the bench.

I think it's six of one, half a dozen of the other. We've moaned about him not fitting our style, we had no other striker for months but played him and tried to pretend he was Daniel Sturridge playing exactly the same hurried, frenetic and ultimately predictable way. He's scored goals for years, yet we decided to ask him to be something he wasn't. I agree his attitude hasn't looked all that, but then, neither has Coutinho when he's tried to play him in like he has the pace to get there, instead of using a bit of brains and adapting the play a bit. Klopp, Benteke and the players are all guilty of it. When Benteke isn't there we cross well and have decent wing play, when he is there we try to walk through the opposition.

It's all very, very frustrating.

I don't think you can really criticise Coutinho's appetite for the match but you can of Benteke.

I mean how hard is it to run a bit more? Or to do more to close defenders down? Or to make a run when we've had good crossing chances rather than hang back near the D of the penalty area?

He'll have more sympathy from me for missing those chances if he did much more of the above...

I like players who look extremely pissed sitting on the bench. Better than some of the players who seem all happy, laughing, joking with each other on the bench.

Agree with your posts about how badly we have used him.

I didn't criticise Coutinho's appetite for the match, I criticised him trying to force the play with Benteke in ways that don't really work. It was just an example.

I'm not exactly a fan of Benteke nor was I a fan of the idea or the fee, but I'm not going to lay complete blame with him to be proven right or wrong about anything. His confidence looks shot and if he's looked shy of where to run and how to play in this team, then we've looked equally bereft of how to use him and any kind of "plan" that would get the most from him. It's like we decided to spunk £35m on him while chosing to ignore how Villa got the best from him. In fact, that looks like exactly what we've done.

I'm saying it's as much our fault as his, I can't be arsed jumping on his case because I didn't want him, or whatever. We've been dickheads over this transfer and he'll go elsewhere and score goals for a club who actually want him and who have done their homework on how to use him. In fact, I really hope that's what will happen because it will be best for everyone. But yeah, I have some sympathy for the lad because he's been treated like a fucking plague by everyone from the off. We saw the "fan effect" today on Sturridge, when he responded to the criticism he's had while he's been out injured, when he goes the same people will be calling him all the cunts under The Lying Rag. You reap what you sow. Benteke's been slated from the off and this is the result.

Should got a run out tonight, the pacey striker up front wasn't working, so his power may have helped.

I'm glad that, thanks to Mark, I'm not the only one still not hating Benteke. I think he's a good player, always have.

Although I fear this may well go the same way as my Christian Ziege crusade.

Oh well

Nah he's a good player. Why on earth we signed him though, I'll never know. I'd love to see Klopp solve this one.

He's a good player no doubt, but he's been lazy and shit since he got here. There's been no determination to prove his worth to a club who just spent 32M on him. I think that's pretty disgusting.

I thought Origi was very good when he came on - looks a totally changed player from the very raw Babel-like lad who played earlier this season. Played intelligently and was surprisingly good in winning the long out ball from the back and holding on to it. He deserved to get ahead of Benteke onto the field.

However, I'm not ready to give up on the big man yet - hopefully he's willing to knuckle down and work on his game in the pre-season. I don't think Klopp will bomb him out yet as well unless the player demands to go or proves too thick or undetermined to learn.

That's probably down to the opposition letting us play through the middle, knowing Benteke is shit. When the ball goes wide, they will double up and sprint to stop it. Psychologically our weak minded players will tend toward the path of least resistance, and fall into their opponent's hands.

I think he's definitely a goner. And I say that simply because of the amount of issues to fix in the squad, we need all the funds we can get to fix key areas.

We can't really turn down 16 - 18 mil for him.

Hard to tell for sure. Klopp does recognise Benteke has ability, as he considered signing him for Dortmund, but IMO it's significant that he eventually decided against it. Benteke was always streaky even in his best days at Villa, I reckon we'd deffo listen to offers and TBH I agree we should.

He'll go, I don't think there's any doubt about that now. I just don't think it's been entirely his fault. Some people have been willing him to fail from the word go and are all too happy now to blame him completely and label him shit, which is ridiculous.

Buy 1-2 players that can cross better from either wing(s). Gomez, Milner, Ibe & Moreno's final balls often fall short or are out of heading range. Benteke has to step up aswell & stop being lazy.

Me and a bunch of the Irish lads all saw him for the Christmas drinkies game. All of us were proper appalled at just how static and half arsed he was. He might well be a good player on his day but that day he was a fucking shower.

Don't see how klopp is to blame...rodgers yeah but not klopp. Rodgers wanted him but wanted to make him something he wasn't. Klopp has his own style but benteke just doesn't suit it. Doesn't make klopp a cunt. Rodgers did the same thing with carroll (which makes him wanting benteke even more perplexing).

As in not a grower?

Never a Liverpool player.... never a Klopp player either....

Not enough mobility, another 30 million wasted on sluggish lumps....

Sell for 25M and get someone with pace in.
