Players tell Rafa Benitez: Bring Michael Owen back

I wouldn't be opposed to the idea at all.
His wages won't be stupid, and he is on a free.
My only reservation is that this should be extra to anything we plan doing and not instead of.

regards

Yep I'd go with that. Lets face it, not scoring goals at Newcastle where the creativity began and ended with the likes of Nicky Butt, Joey Barton and Danny Guthrie, should hardly be held against Owen!

Strikers need service, they weren't getting it at Newcastle this season. As Vlad says as long as he's not the only option, then I'd be happy.

How many goals has Mikey scored since January?
Tsk! Thats Nicky Butts fault obviously.
We are now ignoring the fact bessy mate Shearer benched said goal machine for persistently looking poor and missing gilt edge chances, and claiming he didnt have any chances to miss thanks to his shitbag team mates* hadnt you heard?

*nb-Lovenkrands and martins goals will be struck from the records. Pure bloody flukes.

Owens not gonna get in the team for starters and to be honest as back up for Torres incase of injury, when needed, Owen would probably be injured too. Bullshit story.

Yeah, oncey, good fucking stats about Eggnog off the bench and that; you're a fucking genius

Michael Owen scored 158 goals for us

Next. Or rather; fuck off

I really wanted us to sign owen on a free, but the last 6 months have really changed my opinion. He's been utter shite and of course ov with a few injuries. No goals in the last 10 matches or so, and couldn't even get into the relegated Newcastle side. He's past it, and sadly cant contribute much. I really dont know if theres any desire left in him to get back eiter.

Keep Ngog and forget Owen. Sign Tevez.

I can kinda see why Shearer benched Owen now that I think about it. That Newcastle side had zero creativity in it and was really really struggling to create chances. Owen needs chances creating for him, as he isn't going to create any for himself.

Martins on the other hand is pacey and full of running, so will cause defenders more problems and Viduka, the fat cunt, can still hold the ball up to some degree. Those two gave them more of a presence up front.

If Michael Owen were to come back to Liverpool, all we'd really be asking him to do is finish some of the chances served up to him. Big difference.
Oh so when you said that there werent stats to back up that theory, what you really meant was 'Yeah there are, but i dont care coz Michael Owen scored loads of goals for us'?
I mean it was you who brought it up, i simply showed you the stat that you requested and you cry like a big fucking girl boo hoo. Youre wrong. Wear it.

He's not as shit as you're making out, Oncy.
Great. Sign him up. He's just a bit shit.

Even leaving injury worries aside, I can only ever see Owen being a "supersub" kind of player for us now. He would be totally unsuitable to playing up on his own in a Torres-type role, we don't play with a front two and, in any case, starting with Keegan's more recent spell in charge even the Toon have tended to play Owen behind their front two anyway. He did well there earlier in the season, but at LFC that would equate to the position behind Torres, which is more than adequately covered by Stevie G and a rejuvenated Yossi. Would being a bit part player be enough to get the best out of him and, even if the answer's "yes", how much of a salary would we have to pay him to do it?

don't see a problem with him coming on a free. those who don't want him probably feel this way because of the way he left.

In some cases, yes, but some - myself included - just don't see how he'd fit into our plans, for the reasons I've just explained.
Absolutely not. I dont want him because he is no longer a top tier world class attacking talent, and thats what we should be signing this summer.

the way owen left is neither here nor there, that was five years ago and besides the money for owen when to the purchase of alonso.

It seems that unless we sign top class players or spend big money getting them, then some people are going to instantly write them off as not being good enough.

Of course like everyone else i want us to sign a couple of top quality players, but we also need to couple of players that can come in and to a job when needed. Owen amongst other options could possibly fit the bill in this regard.

*Not directed at anyone in particular*

i don't want him instead of but as well as

Im going to dip out of this now, because its just going round in circles.
I dont want Owen. I dont think hes very good. If we sign him i'll cheer him on and hope that im wrong.
I wont be.

The thing with signing Owen is that he has quality and experience, plus has everything to prove. His finishing has always been top drawer too.

If we can get him fit, then he'd be a good player to be able to bring in, esp on a free.

Owen has had his time. He'd be no more than a bit part squad player at best. On that basis if he was willing to take a huge pay cut it may be worth a punt. But he won't so it's not. I also do not think Rafa would be swayed by any player as to who he should sign. I think Owen will go to a second tier team like City or Everton so, from Newcastle, that's a step up.

On a free, with a reduced salary, HE HAS to be worth a gamble...

The question is, does he want to challenge from major honors with a top club....and make less money, OR join a mid table club and make a fortune.

It has to be the former. He's already minted, but he must be dying to win trophies...

I would say if he comes back cap in hand with low salary expectations based on performance, he should be bought. Rafa may have a chip on his shoulder though...

To be fair Brendan, Owen's goal scoring record for the time he played with us means absolutely fuck all now all these years later in a 'he can still do a job for us kinda way'.

if i had to put money on it, i'd put it on him joining us i think.
Talk about bittersweet in winning that money!

Rafa is definitely going to try and boost up the English contingent in our squad. As of now, the players we have been linked to are:

Barry, Glen Johnson, Adam Johnson, Downing, Wheater and Owen

I am not really a big fan of Owen returning but given our budget constraints, he represents the best value for money out of that lot. Especially if he is on a pay as you play contract.
