Hmmm ...I still think that the biggest problem with our defenders is how quickly and, often, slovenly, they want get rid of the ball at the first hint of pressure. I have watched a few times when Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling and Henderson press our opponents. They are quite often still able to recycle the ball quite well, mainly because they are well aware of who and what is going on around them at all times, meaning that our attackers have had to produce moments of absolute invention to grab us goals. Yet our defenders at the first hint of danger make all sorts of basic errors and from them we have conceded goals. It has happened far too frequently last season and I think the defenders have been getting any easy pass with the system getting blamed. For the record, all defenders make mistakes and score own goals, look at John Terry's spectacular against Crystal Palace albeit under genuine pressure or Kompany's against Fulham, but our count of both reflects either poor quality players, lousy concentration or a combination of both.
I agree about Williams, the person, being a bit of a cnut-- but the relevant point I was making is that he wouldn't make any more errors than we are already making while at the same bringing much better organisation to the defence.
