Liverpool hope to raise £30 million in sales

Liverpool are aiming to raise £30 million in summer sales with Daniel Agger, Lucas and Fabio Borini among the players up for sale

Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, has a list of 14 players who could be culled from his squad ahead of next season, raising a potential £30 million in transfer funds.

Defender Daniel Agger and midfielder Lucas are among the most high-profile players facing an uncertain summer, while the on-loan goalkeeper Pepe Reina will make his temporary exit permanent.
The signings from last year, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto, are available for transfer and Victor Moses and Aly Cissokho, on loan from Chelsea and Valencia respectively, will return to their parent clubs with Liverpool having no interest in retaining their services.

Players who excelled on loan elsewhere such as Fabio Borini, whose goals at Sunderland secured Premier League status, and Oussama Assaidi who is wanted by Stoke City where he spent this season, could raise more than £10 million for Rodgers.

Liverpool also have youngsters such as Jack Robinson, Martin Kelly and Conor Coady who will be given the opportunity to pursue their career elsewhere for the right price.

Rodgers will be realistic about how many players can be offloaded given the additional demands of Champions League football next season, but with five or six new players he will still have the compact base of around 18 first-team players plus emerging youngsters he craves.

Agger’s future at Anfield has been under constant scrutiny as he has been fighting for his place with Mamadou Sakho. It is clear Rodgers wants to add another centre-back, with Steven Caulker of Cardiff City under consideration, which would further jeopardise the Danish international’s position.

Agger is a sought-after defender on the continent, regularly linked with clubs of the calibre of Barcelona, and Liverpool would expect more than £12 million if he was sold.

Likewise, Lucas - although not a player the club would actively look to sell - finds himself with much to ponder since Rodgers restructured the side with Steven Gerrard in a holding role. The popular Brazilian would undoubtedly be retained as a squad player if he wished, but he is at a point in his career where he wants to be a permanent starter. He has always performed better when enjoying a consistent run of games and struggled deputising for the suspended Jordan Henderson in the latter weeks of the season.

Like Agger, Lucas would command a considerable fee if sold but will not be short of admirers should he decide on a fresh challenge.

Reina burnt his bridges with Rodgers when he moved to Napoli on a season’s loan, the Liverpool manager speaking publicly at his surprise at the farewell letter the number one wrote to the supporters despite, technically, being due back for the next pre-season. If Naples do not sign him permanently, Liverpool will still expect him to find a new club for the £4 million stipulated in his exit clause.

Rodgers isn't fucking about is he. That's a good thing btw.

He is refreshingly swift with cutting the fat out of the squad.

Borini, Aspas and Alberto were shite signings though, at the time and now in hindsight. Hopefully those were a one time thing when the thought was to pad out the squad and provide competition for places on a tight budget.

I wouldn't be upset about selling any of the names mentioned in that.

I would be disappointed to lose Borini whom I rate quite highly. Provided he isn't going to insist on first-team football he would be very useful to have around.

We would probably get a good price for Lucas who is one of those players for whom the reputation is much better than the reality. It would put an end to all those arguments on the forum about whether he is any good or not. He isn't.

An amazing turn around if true for Lucas. Number one disciple a year ago. I really hope Brendan isn't including Bascombe among his confidantes, that's really dancing with the devil.

Aspas £4m
Assaidi £4m
Agger £10m
Borini £8m
Lucas £8m
Reina £4m
Luis Alberto £4m
Coates £2m

£46m there. No, £44m on second thoughts. We could end up raising more than £50m if we sell a couple of the young players.

Good, get it done.

I'm most pleased to hear that Borini is for sale, because it surely means we'll be in for another striker, which I think we need. Most of the others were to be expected.

Well we certainly do need another striker when you compare our squad with those of our rivals. However, as I said we could do a lot worse than hang on to Borini. He's intelligent and as we saw for Sunderland he's a good finisher.

I just feel we need a striker who's a proper alternative to Sturridge, who picks up strains and should be used a bit more sparingly. Quality aside, Borini is a completely different kind of player.

For next season we need the following
Lb
Rb
Cb
Cm
Am
Am
Cf

We should sell
Lucas
Agger
Kelly
Assiadi
Borini
Aspas
Reina
Alberto
Suso

Think Johnson would be possibly be on the way out too. High wages, contract running down, abysmal performances at the times this season.

So we're all agreed that we need a bigger squad for next season..... and you want to get rid of 9 players & bring in 7 players.

I'd guess we can add maths to the list of things that aren't quite the same in Dreamieworld.

Hmmm ncis!

Kelly was in the squad on match day what 10 times total?
Assiadi, Borini, Aspas,Reina, Suso weren't here.
Alberto featured what 5 times and never in the final months.

We need a bigger squad of players who will actually feature as opposed to being on loan or not good enough to force their way in.

From this seasons regular squad we would be losing 3 adding 7 + Ibe + Smyth + Ilori means increasing the squad by 7.

That's good enough for me.

Let's not get rid of Borini (unless we bring in a 3rd striker, and even then - he's probably on low'ish wages), Alberto (let's get him some more games and time) and Suso (he's just had a very successful loan period - either one more in England to push up his value, or squad rotational player)

You managed to contradict the first paragraph with the second.

I would be extremely surprised if Lucas only went for £8m (Likewise Borini unless we get Remy for the same price), I'd be expecting £12-15m as I could see him being exactly what some continental teams require.

Well that's not really accurate Stevie since only three of them were actively part of the playing squad (Agger, Lucas, Aspas) and we need an upgrade on all three. Most of the others were out on loan anyway. Getting rid of that lot, bringing in 5-6 1st team level players and using youth to bulk out the squad is very acceptable.

I'm very surprised Rodgers is willing to give up on Alberto so quickly - what a terrible signing.

It's obvious why Lucas is available - he can only play one position, and Gerrard is there. He could get a really nice fee.

I'm surprised we're willing to give up on Toure (1 year left on contract - who is going to buy him?), Suso (unfortunately) and Borini ... I guess it's a good thing in one way, but we cannot have too many players leaving and coming in ...

I understand "fighting for survival" as meaning they will be given a chance to prove they belong in training and preseason games. I'm also disappointed that Alberto is in the first category (if it's true). Maybe he is another from the category of "talent, but not a fighter," as Magath would say...

Could be - but you can tell he has class on the ball ... maybe he's just not cut out for the league / city etc

Dont know if its true but read yesterday that Aspas and Alberto werent players Rodgers was to keen on.
Would make sense if he's now getting rid as soon as he gets more control over signing players.

Most likely bs but an interesting thought. Regardless we're quick when it comes to correcting our mistakes.
Need to get them right this summer mind.

Probably BS.

Players that turn out shit and BR is not keen on them

Studge and Courtinho, he was in favor of probably.

Looking to buy one of Cardiff city's centrebacks after they got relegated with 30 points and conceded 74 goals?
No ta.

It makes all the more bewildering the transfer window we had before the start of the season.

Alberto, Aspas, Cissokho and Moses out.

How the fuck are we going to find a mug club to pay Aspas E2.5mil a year for the next 4 years. We are living in dreamland if we think the useless twat won't be with us next year imho unless we settle up some of his contract. If he does leave it will most likely be on loan. What a shit transfer this has turned out to be

I'm puzzled about Kelly. What's gone wrong there? A year ago he seemed better than Flanagan, both defensively and going forward. Now Flanno is the great white hope and Kelly seems to have fallen by the wayside.
