Philippe Coutinho, Part II

This certainly seems like a very effective transfer window for us, rather strange for January really.

Coutinho, despite his obvious technical ability seems very very raw in many other respects. Lets hope he's less Babel and more... well... hrm, when's the last time we actually developed a really successful attacking talent, anyway?

Midfielder? Gerrard. Striker? Owen.

Well he's certainly got more skills than Babel.
Skillful than most other players he'll play with or against, and he's very quick.
Two traits that'll hopefully help him cope in the league.

The only thing that worries me about Coutinho is that he's a bit thin. He'll get shrugged off the ball pretty easily in the prem.

True.
Silva should open up a school for the thin and small when he retires. There's got to be a technique. Zola was a very light player as well. Jouninho too. From our club, Owen.
They were exceptional before coming to England (except Owen), so maybe there's a huge difference.
Perhaps the physicality is precisely the reason why he didn't do well in Italy? Who knows.
Hopefully he'll be okay. And maybe watching Raheem in training will also help him.

Zola small frame, big ass thighs and low center of gravity. Same regarding Owen (well maybe not the thighs). Juninho was often shrugged off the ball, but he was quick and technical.

Sterling needs to get stronger.

He'll sign a long term contract Modo, he'll be here for 4-5 years. Weights and Protein....weights and protein man!

I really hope Lucas gets to mentor him.
Weights and protein didn't help Robinho. Still looks just like he did when he left Brazil.

No way man. He was a rake at Santos and found the physicality of La Liga hard to get to grips with let alone the Premiership. He got a lot stronger in Europe.

I think He looks strong enough in the clips I've seen if him. He's already been at a very big club before coming here (if he comes) which I'm sure did all the ground work with him physically. I'd hate to see him lose any pace or mobility due to a heavy weights regime. Injuries could be a concern too.

@tancredipalmeri: Coutinho important update - According to Gazzetta, Inter president wd be ready to stop the transfer if in meanwhile wouldn't get Paulinho ok

Robinho had an attitude problem. Silva's a slim frame and is fine, Hernandez has beefed up and is stronger. If Robinho still looks the same as when he left brazil then he obviously hasnt been doing the right strength training now has he?

I kinda meant that. Party person, didn't give a fuck about improving.

I dont really get your point. Robinho came from Madrid as a regular and already thought he was king of the world, Coutinho's played a handful of games for inter. Different story. There are more brazilians that have settled here than just robinho to compare,

Don't make a big deal our of it, in my original post I used Robinho as an example because he's a skinny Brazilian player and I said that I want Lucas to mentor Coutinho so that he settles, works hard and improves at LFC.

Currently, it's Sturridge, Suarez, Borini, Coutinho (hopefully), and Sterling. So that's 5 players, vying for 3 positions up front. You can certainly knock Shelvey off the list, as the front three is not his position, and Suso' natural position is deeper, though he's capable of playing there.

If you consider it 2 players per position, we're actually short. So I can understand we're still in for another one of Draxler and Ince.
All good.

Poor Downing and Assaidi and as Ryan mentioned Carroll. I agree with you though. It's an attacking line-up to put fear into the opposition's defenders before they're even on the pitch.

Not making a big deal I just feel its better to speak in general terms rather than single one person out as an example. There are loads of examples on both sides.

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti believes the deal to take Philippe Coutinho to Liverpool will work out well for everyone.

It emerged earlier this week that the Reds were closing in on a move for the winger after agreeing a fee with the Serie A club.
And it appears Inter are already planning for the future without Coutinho after Moratti confirmed that they would look to use the money from his sale to strengthen the squad.

He told Sky Italia: "The deal for Coutinho to Liverpool is an opportunity both for Inter and both for the player.
"We could be happy with the economic proposal and Coutinho could find the space he hasn't here. And then we'll have the opportunity to reinforce the team".
If the deal is completed, Coutinho would become the club's second signing of this transfer window following the £12million capture of Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea.
Coutinho came through the youth system at Vasco da Gama before joining Inter at the age of 18.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at Espanyol, where he worked with new Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Pochettino's recent appointment at Saints led to speculation linking Coutinho with the South Coast club but it is understand he has expressed a preference for Anfield.

If we sign Coutinho, then I think we've got plenty of forward players, and competition for places, and goals in the team. That should happen by itself, so we really need to concentrate on the defensive side of our game, as it's ropey as fuck at the moment.
A starting team of Reina, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Enrique, Lucas, Henderson, Gerrard, Coutinho, Sturridge, Suarez - should be enough to deal with anything really if they concentrate and stay on their game. And subs on the bench to come on and change a game.

If you're playing the odds with Brazilian AM's, you want them in their early twenties - most of them peak then.

apparently Juan Jesus has tweeted wishing Coutinho the best on his move and hopes inter sign paulinho as a replacement.

That's what did for Andy Carroll. All them weights made him slow and shit.
