Reina is already appeased by what he has seen from Fenway and Dalglish.
He ha his escape clause written in under the last regime (Hicks and Gillett) and wanted an insurance policy should no investment be found.
He has seen the investment and the intention. He has seen how things are now and how they will be. It isnt a massive secret around the club that there will be heavy investment in the summer, that is why you see smiles on the players faces again.
A lot of the quotes from Reina are re-hashed from summer and edited to remove bits about how happy he is and how he doesnt want to leave.
He's a baldy legend and he loves us and wants to stay. He worried as we all did and wanted assurances. They have been made.
Why hasn't he signed the contract that was offered to him about 6 weeks ago then (which removes the buy out clause) ?
Cos if he holds on til Arsenal bid again he'll get a bumper contract or a move I'd guess.

I noticed on Sunday while they players were in the huddle for the minutes silence for Japan that Carragher stood at the end of the line next to Pepe.
While everyone else were linked, arms around shoulders, Carra stood away from Reina without making any physical contact.

I dunno if this is another "Stevie not celebrating a goal with Nando" moment and they have fallen out or just a coincidence.

But they're Singaporeans so this kind of nonsense isnt surprising.

It's just Carra isn't a queg that prob lad. I can't see professional footballers hugging each other and having a cuddle on the pitch to prove to fans that they wanna stay like. It'd be funny but gay.

Arsenal Bid for Liverpool Keeper Reina Confirmed
Posted on 25 March 2011

Former Arsenal goalkeeping coach Bob Wilson has confirmed that Arsene Wenger did make an offer for Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina during the January transfer window, hinting that the “big bid†exceeded £20 million.

The Gunners legend continued by insisting Reina will once again be on Wenger’s wish-list when the transfer window re-opens in the summer, but the French tactician is certain to face competition for the in-demand Spaniard.

“Arsene tried like mad to buy not only a goalkeeper, but what he considered to be the most consistent in the country,†Wilson insisted. “So he made a big bid for Pepe Reina.â€

“'That didn't come out because that's not Arsene Wenger's way of doing it and it's not Arsenal's way of doing it, but he did attempt it.

Wilson was quick to defend the current Arsenal number one Wojciech Szczesny, who currently face six weeks on the sidelines after suffering a ruptured tendon in his finger during Arsenal’s 3-1 Champions League loss to Barcelona.

I think [Wenger] would have lost, without any doubt, the young kid Szczesny [if he had signed Reina],†Wilson continued.

“I believe he is going to be the future. It’s most unfortunate he has had this injury and in the game that he had it, but I happen to think Szczesny is going to be a great goalkeeper. The boy is ready now - you ask Arsenal fans.â€

There has been no shortage of speculation linking Reina with a move away from Anfield, with the Spanish international attracting interest from a number of top European clubs after several consistent seasons.

After witnessing fellow Spanish team-mates Fernando Torres and Xabi Alonso leave the club, and former boss Rafa Benitez also departing Anfield, it is believed Reina has become disillusioned with life at the Merseyside club.

In addition, Liverpool have struggled to be competitive both domestically and in Europe in recent years, and the cash injection that accompanied the Liverpool takeover from Fenway Sports Group is unlikely to be enough to persuade Reina his future remains at Liverpool.

“I'm not prepared to swear eternal love to anyone,†Reina ominously revealed to The Guardian. “That's impossible. Any player who says that is lying."

“I can't say much because I have a contract with Liverpool. But eternal love doesn't exist. No one is master of his own destiny. When a player is at club he has to give everything - that is all you can ask of him."

“I would never say: 'I'm never going,' because even I don't know that,†Reina added. "It depends on how this season finishes, on how competitive we can be

Its been said for years that Arsenal really need to get a decent keeper. I'd be bloody annoyed if that keeper was ours!

Can't we just buy someone Spanish to keep him happy?

Naiively or not I don't think he will go.... he's being honest about being pissed off with the way the club has gone for the last 2 years and be he has an undeniable point as it has been a cluster fuck.

It is down to the new owners not just to staunch the bleeding but to pump some new blood in and revive the club. I hope they don't try and do things on the cheap like the last bunch of shysters.

I would be very sad to see him leave but we will be able to replace him should he decide the grass is greener elsewhere, he was very much part of the rafalution and maybe he wants to move on before getting roped into another "transition" season.

Panicing about the press breathlessy reporting every little fart he makes is pointless. If he does leave he will do so having played very very well for the club and as long as it isn't to United he will go with my best wishes.

So its not the Arsenal way to talk about it but bigmouth talks about it anyway, and Szczesny is ready now (just ask the Arsenal fans). Why then do they need Reina?

surely if they bid 20mil then the clause would be activated and he could have fucked off. at the time arsenal were still in line for an unlikely quadruple

Pepe is a good 'keeper but isn't team harmony a higher priority?

His team mates will be aware that he has reservations about the club and rather like Torres may well be affecting morale adversely. Certainly his comments of late make it difficult to warm to him given other players have left after voicing doubts.

Listening to Kenny Dalglish he obviously values a players desire to play for the club and be aware of the teams and clubs needs before his own narrow interest.

I suspect Dalglish will not stand in his way if he submits a transfer request. We need commitment and belief rather than trying to tick boxes on an individuals wishlist.

Same goes for any others. I suspect Dalglish is following Shankly's lead and will make it clear to everyone that those who don't want to be here should move on.

Well they mustn't have triggered it or something- cos the fucking baldy showoff fuck would have had his bags packed and been off to London lickety-fucking-split.

exactly my feeling, maybe the clause isn't there? if they imply they offered "well over 20" then who knows? Maybe there isn't a clause or pepe wants to stay

Would Stevie have sent an email to Torres wishing him the best of luck had he fallen out with him?
I think that rumor was bollocks. I don't think Carra liked him though.

Reina has wanted to leave for two years - Mihaylov

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Nikolay Mihaylov has claimed Pepe Reina has wanted to leave the club for "one or two years".

Bulgaria international Mihaylov, 22, was signed by the Reds in 2007 and loaned out to FC Twente in a bid to secure a work permit.

He has since joined Twente on a permanent deal but, as he has now become a regular for his country, he has claimed Liverpool retain an option to take him back to Anfield.

"Liverpool are a huge club," he told Darik Radio. "It wasn't possible to get a work visa when I went there but now there'll be no such problems because I'm playing regularly in the national
team."

Asked about Liverpool's option to re-sign him, Mihaylov said: "I think it's absolutely real. The option was made when Rafa Benitez was in charge."

Mihaylov believes Liverpool will be in need of a new goalkeeper in the near future as Reina has a desire to return to his home country.

"I know from my agent Pepe Reina wants to go back to Spain," he said. "His desire dates back one or two years. He's one of the best keepers in the world but his form is not as it should be in a club like Liverpool."

Fair enough.

He's obviously not rated enough here.

hard to disagree. 3 managers only given him a handful of appearances. perhaps hes not a hard trainer, or not very good with the physicality
