Liverpool linked with shock bid for former stopper

Liverpool want to re-sign Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina this summer, according to shock reports in Italy.
Liverpool have already signed one keeper this summer, Loris Karius from Mainz for a reported £4.7million, but Corriere dello sport claims Jurgen Klopp wants Reina to be his new No.1 at Anfield.

Reina enjoyed a successful eight-year spell at Anfield between 2005 and 2013 in which he won an FA Cup and League Cup and also started the Reds’ Champions League final defeat to AC Milan in 2007.
He joined Napoli on a season-long loan in 2013 before spending a year at Bayern Munich and then returning to Naples on a free transfer last summer.

Napoli are understandably said to want to keep hold of their first-choice stopper, but the chance of an emotional return to Merseyside may appeal to the 33-year-old.

33 is not really that old for a goalkeeper. If he's willing to sit on the bench most the season he could be a valuable wise old head for Karius to learn from.

Nah, we shouldnt go back for him. He's probably on even higher wages than Ming and wont be that much of an upgrade.

Panic at Melwood as Pepe attempts to show Sakho a manual form of fat burning:

Maybe we could offer him the chance to play and be goalkeeper coach. I think he would be a fantastic goalkeeper coach.

I was thinking about that as well. We can't continue with Achterberg - nice guy and all that, but what he doesn't do is improve keepers. Reina might fancy coming as a back-up keeper while completing his badges, but we're a big club and it's a specialist position - we need to look for a proven coach who'll immediately make a difference in that position.

Not watched him of late though in his last season or 2 with us his reactions were really slow. Has he improved that much?

At least mind is decent shot stopper. would still get rid

Even at his worst he's still better than mignolet. Commands his area and excellent distribution.

Hmmmm. The Reina who played for us in his last season here had entirely forgotten how to save shots. Anything on target had about a 50% chance of going in.

I'd take him over Mignolet even now! Actually I'd take him over our current LB too.
