Ozil

When Flamini came on on Sunday, Arsenal were much better, he was a leader in the middle they desperately needed.

I was just kidding, mate. It's hard to compare a €50m transfer to a free one. I do think Özil will improve them more even if Flamini will strengthen a position that was in more need of strengthening. Or something.

[article=http://www.derwesten.de/sport/fussball/rwe/schalke-und-rot-weiss-essen-verdienen-bei-oezil-wechsel-mit-id8392757.html]Mesut Ozil's former German clubs are all expecting a tidy windfall from his move to Arsenal.

Real Madrid sold the midfield schemer to Arsenal yesterday for a Gunners record fee of €50 million.

WAZ says Rot-Weiss Essen, Schalke and Werder Bremen will all receive a small percentage - understood to be five per cent - of Ozil's fee to be split between them.

Ozil will be brilliant for the Gooners but like so many have stated he won't improve their defence.

Look who's talking!

[article=http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11670/8904827/transfer-news-damien-comolli-backs-mesut-ozil-to-become-big-star-in-england]Arsenal's former European scout Damien Comolli expects Mesut Ozil to make a big impact in the Premier League with the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger finally secured his big signing of the summer after Ozil joined in a deal thought to be worth £43million.

Arsenal smashed their club record to land the German international, but Comolli, who worked for the Gunners between 1997 and 2004, insists it is money well spent.

He is confident that Ozil will slot quickly into the Arsenal line-up and feels his arrival will keep the club in contention for major honours.

"I think it's the one signing of the summer that can make a massive difference," Comolli told Sky Sports News.

"He's a truly world-class player and when you look at the going rate at the moment, you know the Cavanis, the Bales, the Falcaos, he's cheap.

"In a side that is already very good technically, he's going to bring even more creativity and imagination and technique. I think he's going to be a massive, massive signing for Arsenal."

Comolli helped to sign Gareth Bale during his spell as Tottenham's director of football and was immediately impressed with the youngster, who went on to complete a world-record move to Real Madrid this week.

He kept a close eye on the teenager while he was learning his trade at Southampton and felt he had all the attributes needed to reach the top.

"I remember going there on freezing nights in Southampton and there is one game in particular. He played at QPR, an away game, and he was absolutely outstanding. I couldn't remember seeing such a creative player, playing from the back," he said.

"He got a penalty on that day. He was just outstanding and he was only 17, so straight away we jumped on the opportunity.

"He ticked all the boxes, bright player, dedicated professional, very good family, excellent background behind him. The hardest thing was not to convince us to spend the money, but to convince him to come to us."

United were also interested in Bale before he opted to join Spurs and Comolli revealed how Ryan Giggs tried to tempt the youngster to Old Trafford.

"We were really worried to be honest with you. With the Welsh connection we heard that Ryan Giggs was talking to him all the time, telling him he should come to Manchester United," he said.

"Whether United made an offer, I don't know. They had and they still have so much financial power, so if they wanted to offer more than Spurs they could have done very easily."[/article]

Graham Hunter has said that the hold up last night was Ozil and his father waiting for Utd to come in with a bid, but they never did.

I bet the Utd fans love hearing that and to a degree also the Arse fans.

Can we ban all mention of that uber chancer, Commoli on these boards. A Blagger if ever there was one.

Daniel Levy didn't want Mesut Ozil to join Arsenal
Reports in Spain suggest that Levy appealed to the partnership between the two clubs agreed as part of the Luka Modric transfer to try and stop Perez selling Ozil to Spurs' north London rival.

According to El Confidencial Levy felt "betrayed" by news that Ozil would be allowed to leave for the Gunners after enquiring about the player's availability during July and August, potentially as part of the Gareth Bale transfer.

Daniel Levy called Florentino Perez to try and prevent Mesut Ozil's Arsenal move
At that time Perez told Levy that Ozil was not for sale with the player expected to remain at the Bernabeu, but the German international reportedly became increasingly as the transfer window drew to a close enabling Arsenal to snap him up.
On receiving the call from Levy, Perez reportedly politely informed the Spurs boss that a deal sending Ozil to Arsenal was all but complete.

Spurs and Real were supposed to have a partnership following the transfer of Luka Modric
The news is sure to put further strain on the relationship between Real and Tottenham after Levy delayed Gareth Bale's move to Spain until he could bring in replacements, amidst rumours that the club had become infuriated with the way Real had conducted their business.

Sky Sports news also claimed last week that Levy had a role in preventing a Madrid player joining Arsenal ahead of the north London derby, played last weekend.

Manchester United made a last gasp attempt to snatch transfer record breaker Mesut Ozil from Arsenal’s grasp.
United made enquiries on Monday with Old Trafford boss David Moyes desperate to bring in a top quality playmaker before his deal for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera went horribly wrong.
Mirror Sport understands that desperate phone calls were made on Monday morning to see if Ozil was still available, having been offered by third party agents two weeks before.
But it was already too late as Germany midfielder Ozil, 24, had turned down a more lucrative offer from Paris Saint Germain and now it emerges that Arsenal also beat United to a deal with Real Madrid.
It is a remarkable coup for Arsenal to get the £42m midfielder who has signed a five year deal at the Emirates worth £140,000-a-week and has been given the No11 shirt. Arsenal had already invested weeks of preparation into the deal and that was vital in them fending off late competition.
The interest in Ozil - the second biggest deal in Premier League history after Fernando Torres’ £50m deal in January 2011 - has been incredible among Arsenal fans, sparking shirt sales and excitement as Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has made a clear message of intent.
England winger Theo Walcott yesterday claimed Ozil’s arrival proves that Arsenal are determined to get back to winning major trophies after eight barren years.
Walcott said: “It’s a fantastic signing. He has shown for his club and country that he is a fantastic player. It’s very exciting. I played against him with the Under-21s and we lost 4-0. He showed his qualities then. He has shown that for many years. I am looking forward to playing with him.

“We had a disappointing start to the season but we have bounced back and it’s looking fantastic now. With the likes of Ozil joining the club, it’s only going to boost everyone at the club and everyone is going to be on a massive high.
“I think it definitely shows a statement that we are ready to step up and Ozil is going to be fantastic for me personally.
“With the amount of the assists he has got, it’s a dream for me to see so I am very excited to see him in the flesh and play with him. I am sure all the Arsenal fans will be looking forward to our next game at Sunderland.”

That's a pathetic pose by Podolski. He looks like a kid getting a photo with a celebrity. Reminiscent of how pathetic the players were celebrating 4th.

Lol and in london there are plenty of slappers for him. Lets hope he does a dwight yorke and gets too distracted with pussy rather than football.

Poor the Levy. He just sold the worlds most expensive player, and probably played real in the process. He can't complain at all..

Perez is probably trying to make it seem as if he 'had' to sell Ozil ... Rumor has it, there were no women in Germany to entice him so Madrid was difficult for him.

Is that supposed to look like Ronnie Reagan and Bill Clinton, or is it just me?
