I think the difference with that is he was groomed from the ground up.

Eat, slept and drank Barcelona, and was in the clubs eco system. Furthermore, he was more of a coach than a manager. The club is run from upstairs, basically told here are your world class players, you coach em.

You want a manager that has experience, which is defined by winning a trophy in a club in any country, failing that you want a manager that is brought up with the club, but you don't want an up and coming manager(unless their name is Laudrup). What you definitely don't want, is who ever our current manager is at the time.

Is that all correct?

I seem to recall Frank de Boer was mentioned was the FSG favorite but turned us down at the last minute.

I just want a manger who can take us forward, tactically assured, can get the best out of average players and has great eye for talent.. I think expeirence at this level is key, yes..

We dont have the Structure of a Club like Barca so that idea is definatley out from the word go.. I think the only club in the premiership that could possibly follow Barca's lead is Manchester UTD.. Given the structure they have that has been in place for near 25 years..

It really would not suprise me if Fergies Succesor is in house.. Solksjaar, Giggs, Scholes; Someone that has, eat, sleeped and breathed Fergie's regime, and knows what it takes to win at any cost at this level..

I think who ever the manager is, they need to have a long term vision for where he'd like the team to go,have an ability to spot talent that is under rated and therefore cheap(or at least have the right structure in place to allow that to happen), and also take care of the under age system.

I actually think Rodgers fits the bill for them. He's brought through a lot of young players, tried to get us playing possession football, and picked up the likes of Sturridge for relatively cheap(some of his other signings are yet to prove themselves, but it is early days). Whether he's able to succeed or not, remains to be seen. I think it's way too early to judge him on it, and I wouldn't discount him the back of a few poor results. At the very least, a long term manager, which I believe we intended Rodgers to be(as opposed to Kenny and Roy), should get two years to prove themselves, barring a total disaster.

You can't just wait for the brink of a 'total disaster'. This is a huge club and it has to keep moving and challenging. It can't slump far without it rapidly becoming a total disaster. Even Rodgers himself, speaking last season in defence of Dalglish, stressed that a manager of a top club is like someone who has to modify a plane whilst keeping it in flight. You can't drop out and drop back in again given the pace and pressures of the game these days. The echoes of Ged's five year plan might still be heard but they never commanded much respect - there's no time at the top for unproven managers to prove themselves, that's why they're usually left to prove themselves lower down the levels, winning things and impressing over several seasons in the league. That's how it's always been and always will be, no matter what tweet-tweet daydreams flutter around in John Henry's head.

The challenge is knowing whether we are experiencing a bump and about to rise, or just experiencing more of the same and on the way down.

I guess I'm more of a positive person in general, so I can see the positives that Brendan has brought in, and am hopeful he'll build on them.

I think the negatives are obvious too, I'm just less positive that a different manager will be able to fix them in a short space of time.
