One In The Hole You Say

I'm baffled how you can't see what Alberto brings.

He's incredibly composed on the ball for his age, so much so that he is perfectly happy to put his foot on the ball & open up space & time by doing so.

That alone makes him ideal for the number 10 role. Against Newcastle when he came on we regained composure almost instantly. Having any player who can help you control a games tempo from that position is invaluable.

If we were to get a DM as effective as the likes of yaya at City we could play Coutinho & Alberto in the hole & centre when they're more experienced. That'd be mouth watering, although I've stated my doubts about the lack of physical presence in that area with Coutinho in the number 10 role.
I hope I'm wrong but I don't think he'll make it. He doesn't seem strong enough, agile enough or creative enough so far for me

Don't forget, his fellow Irishman Rosco wrote Alberto off straight away. He's just keeping up appearances.

Alberto deserves a go, I don't see what Joe Allen brings there at all, he doesn't bag many goals and while his short, quick passing is good, he's not going to thread balls through in the way Coutinho and Alberto seem capable of. Allen deserves another chance playing a deeper role though, I just don't see who's going to make way, we're not going to drop Gerrard and Lucas is the only DM we have.

Lol 🙂

Quick question how through balls has Alberto threaded through so far?

How many chances has he had DB? It's been fairly obvious from his appearances so far, what his strengths are, he's composed in possession and is always looking to play the ball forward. It's been noticeable in his reserve appearances too, that and his eye for goal.

He set up a few chances against Newcastle. Floated a few delicate chipped balls to the far post which were squandered

Yaya Toure isn't a DM.

Sorry, I meant cm. He manages to break up play whilst getting forward when needed.

IMO a cm like that playing behind Coutinho & Alberto (when they've both progressed to effective consistent first teamers) could be the future of our midfield, certainly at home. There may be occasions where we need a Lucas (esp in today's form) to be more of an enforcer, but not in the majority of matches.

He's an excellent all round midfielder but I do think he could be deployed in any of the midfield positions. A bit like the way Essien was capable of doing so. Yaya is an amazing goal threat too. One of the best players in the league IMO.

Yaya was deployed a DM for Barcelona a lot, but then again that was Barca, where Masher and Song are used a CB's.

Didnt one of our previous managers say there was no such thing as a DM, there should just be central midfielders? It may have been Kenny, not sure.

Henderson didn't impress me in that attacking role. But he did his work defensively.
We desperately need Coutinho back.
