No More transfers..

Gerrard has said that, but everything else has pointed towards us bottling our transfers. If we go into the coming season with no more major signings, I worry for our performance. There is simply not enough quality or depth. I can only go on what we've got at the moment.

And what if we get knocked out because we haven't invested in the squad? This whole summer has been a bumbling clusterfuck.
What if? I was only suggesting a possibility. Anyway, if we don't sign anyone else, this summer isn't a "bumbling clusterfuck", we've still strengthened the team, just not enough. However, if we lose Coutinho...

Have you been in a cave for the last three months?

Klopp (I love him) ended the season by saying that the work was already done. Take that how you will, and you can make excuses for him, but to me that's pretty obvious that he thought that the business was done. We then go on to spend the next 12 weeks or so relentlessly chasing TWO players their clubs have no intention of selling, no matter how obscene or grotesque the price. We have somehow decided that these are the only two players in world football that will improve us and we put all of our efforts into signing them. Then, it turns out we've somehow managed to get caught doing something illegal that all the clubs do anyway, but we've been incompetent enough to actually blow ourselves up and have been forced to apologise and back away from one of the players like a gaggle of slobbering retards. Operation Lower Expectations begins and some of us start to believe against reason that Moreno is suddenly going to become a footballer, and James Milner is like a new signing in midfield. We don't need another centre back, actually, we have Matip, Lovren, Klavan and Gomez. Sturridge will stay fit too! All is actually rosy. Then, as you say, Coutinho could quite easily leave.

We've signed Salah who looks a player.
Solanke has impressed in pre-season, but so did Iago Aspas, and he's a young lad. It would be a lot of pressure and expectation on him.
Robertson didn't pull up any trees at relegated HULL.

Is that it? Is that all our signings? Genuine question because it's so underwhelming. This squad buckled when they only had the league to play for. How will it compete for the Champions League (if we even qualify) and in the league against the rest of our rivals who have all strengthened bar Spurs who were better than us anyway?

We've been complacent, incompetent, arrogant, stupid, amateur, the list goes on. Unless something outrageous is pulled out of Klopp's arse in the next few days, then it's been a disaster of a summer. And even by then, it may be too late.

"We have four (centre-backs). I don’t think we need more," Klopp said.

"Joe is in a really good way but it was not his day (against Athletic Bilbao). He made his life difficult with a few passes but things like this happen.

"In the moment I’m fine. We are open until the 31st (of August). We cannot force the things and we would never get a centre-back just because."

Well it terms of what we've tried to achieve and how we've gone about it I'd agree, we've looked like amateurs, but in terms of our squad before and after this window, it hasn't been in my books.

That's because it's basically the same squad. Apart from Salah, you couldn't say we've noticeably improved neither the squad, nor the first team.

Robertson is an upgrade on Milner in my book too. Along with Salah that's two of the problem areas sorted for me, just need that centre back and this summers been alright.

We're not getting a centre back now, though, if Klopp is to be believed. What about centre mid? Or is Milner like a new signing there?

Is this squad good enough for top 4 this year? After it basically scraped through last year, while the rest of the teams have since improved?

we'll probably have some bullshit excuse as to why we can't buy anyone in January as well.

We have our standard excuse, there is no value in the January transfer window.

This year, that will be coupled with, our targets do not want to move and jeopardize their chances of playing in the world cup.

Tbh, you can argue that there is no value now anyway at the rate of increment in our bids. It's 10-15million a pop with no gaurantee when the highs will come.

Don't think so. Milner is still our best left-back. Even though he's not really a left-back.

The last sentence is the most telling. Of course the manager and is never going to come out and say we desperately need this or that player, he has the squad and player confidence to think of too. However that sentence tells me that we are still going for VVD and that there are no other options at this moment.

Let's hope that this is Klopp calling someone's bluff. I refuse to believe that a manager of his supposed ability would look at those 4 CBs and be happy given our expectations for next season.

We can all ride our high horses and point fingers.... but none of us anticipated that 50-60-70 m pound offers would be laughed away this transfer window.

Despite Klopp's comments I'm still hopeful / deluded we'll get a CB, however I don't think upgrading the central midfield was urgent, if we could have got Keita 100% we should have, if not, it's not urgent.
