Disaster if he is claiming Moreno is like a new signing
What's the point of having promising youth players if they never get the opportunity to impress. There's a lot of chatter at the moment from fans advocating for signing an additional 6+ squad players, pushing the likes of Grujic, Woodburn, Ejaria, Gomez and Kent even further down the pecking order.
All of these lads look to have something special.. if we want them to thrive we need to start trusting them. Otherwise we may as well sell them and bring in experienced journey men.
I'd like a CB and CM that are both automatic starters.. but I don't want us to sign additional players just to increase squad numbers. Klavan type signings in midfield can fuck off.
This is Klopp. He would rather that Moreno win the league with Liverpool than another left back we buy does it, unlike many of the fans that genuinley rather would see another left back win the league for us. And before people say he can't win it take a look at the CL winning team. Plenty say that i.e. Biscan and Baros will never win you anything.
He will work with what he got until the player he really want comes by. It doesn't mean everyone get a chance. He moves om the ones he don't see fit to produce his thoughts on the field. Anyway, Klopp is our biggest star by far, and so far he has lifted quite a few of our players to look good. In many ways it is refreshing to the ever search for a guy that isn't here already.
As Rosco has been saying, there have been some quality deals that have gone down this summer.
Kessie, Tielemans may have been just as good as Keita and they went for a fraction of his price.
Kovacic is actively looking for a new club, perhaps on loan. We should be all over that. Versatile player, powerful and skilful, and yet with a lot of potential. Could be a Keita alternative, a Lallana alternative, and possibly even a long-term Coutinho replacement.
Klopp's talking about the 'running through the world with open eyes'. What does this mean? So far, Edwards & co. seem to have missed out on the blindingly obvious.
The problem seems to be that we dont have the right people in charge to get those signings he want.
Tielemans would have walked into our first team. He's a brilliant talent.
People flashing 70 Million pounds in front of Leipzig? What more can you do....?
Tielemans would have walked into our first team. He's a brilliant talent.
I think in the case of this one particular player we've been a victim of an overzealous & overconfident agency pimping their player. We're known to be amateurs when it comes to closing these deals.
I agree completely with the last sentence, in theory, but perhaps not in practice this coming season thanks to the increase in games we face. After the VVD issues the usual hacks have been tight lipped about our activities. Who knows what players we've actually inquired about?
I'd rather utilise the younger players than buy players who'd only do a job for a year then struggle to get shut of in 2 years time. When we have our primary targets.
Yeah, it's a weird argument. Don't really know if it's down to Klopp or the recruitment team to be honest. Some of these arguments still rely on this idea that any second or third choice targets will be a waste of money.
If that's the case then the people at the club responsible for recruitment are doing it wrong.
I'm inclined to agree. In attack and mids I think we're fine for the season. But at the very least we need to sign VVD (or another top quality CB). If we don't, we can forget about top 4.
I just hope it's not VVD or no other CB for Klopp because there are SO many around Europe that will instantly improve our defence.
If we fail to sign VVD and don't want to get another CB or it becomes too late in the transfer window. I blame Klopp.
Time is runnng out though and it would have been nice to have new players getting a full pre season to learn our styleIt never fails to amaze me that some people think that unless a manager says 'We desperately need to sign more players,' he isn't interested in signing more players. Maybe a manager might indeed say that if he managed Peterborough, or was Rafa, but generally, among the top managers at the top clubs, you'll pursue targets whilst talking up the positives of what you already have. Of course there will be more signings.
