NFL 2014-15 (Offseason / Draft / Regular Season)

Someone wants a QB then he's it I suppose. Protects the ball, level headed, can improvise from scrimmage, good on his wheels, doesn't get rapey. Someone doesn't, then Williams or Gregory.

I actually don't know if Mariota's ball security is that great, I was under the impression he's a bit fumble prone going back a few seasons.

I meant in the air. Over 100 career PAC-12 TDs to just 14 picks.

His whole career he has lost 11 fumbles. Oregon tend to recover a lot of their own fumbles. This season alone they recovered more of their own fumbles than they had total turnovers.

But I'm not too worried about those fumbles. Anyone think he's going to run on Sundays like he does in Eugene?

I'm picking a pro, I'm looking at how safely he throws. Winston has more picks this year alone than Mariota has in his whole career. Almost twice as many. Winston might look a more obvious pro presence, but I'd be concerned about his decisions, on and off the field. All things being equal, another year of college ball would suit Winston, but I don't see how he can stay.

I don't think Mariota is great, but he strikes me as someone who might have a big upside. He's used to running a lightning fast no-huddle offence with a lot of play action. He has massively improved on his check downs, although sometimes still looks better on the fly in the middle of mayhem than he does on his set routes. I like him. It's not a particularly pretty QB class, but I wouldn't look past him if I'd settled on a signal caller.

My only real concerns are if he has the arm(haven't seen enough footage), and fumbles. I mainly meant fumbles in the pocket though, the guy doesn't get hit a lot dropping back to begin with, and his ball security isn't impressive.

Still by far the best option though, and one of the few that could actually stick.

I'm going Winston ends up on the Raiders. Match made in heaven.

No chance Raiders are taking a quarterback in the early rounds.
It would be funny if the Browns took him.

Is this a kinda 2015 version of the Luck v. RG3 discussion?

I don't think either QB has that much upside, and it's harsh on RGIII (though I remember telling my bro Luck will be the best of those two - though Wilson may even better!) because injuries have really hurt him (confidence and mobility)

Who actually thought RGIII was better than Luck? That's mental. Luck was so obviously a standout talent.

Mariota's problems are largely teachable. They're the sort of things players who work hard usually improve on. Tight throws, anticipation, his footwork inside the pocket etc. He has the arm and the athleticism, and he seems to have the mindset to knuckle down. It's sometimes hard judging a QB who plays in a system like Oregon's, but I think there's a large upside for a team willing to work with what's already there. He's probably the safer choice, though Winston looks the more archetypal pro quarterback.

A lot of Winston's upside rests on whether he can not be a fucking shameful idiot his whole life. I mean, he'd be an obvious week one starter I would have thought. He's good in the pocket, physically a beast, and has a cannon. Has a bit of a pitcher's throw, but I don't think it's anything to worry about. Pro coaches would want to speed his delivery up. But has he shown any indication of growing up? He lost his head in the Oregon game. Fisher even threatened to sit him. So some of that off-field nonsense might spill on-field. He'd probably make a more immediate impact that Mariota, unless whoever takes MAriota is prepared to switch up and play an Oregon style offence.

Looking forward to these games now.

I'm still thinking Seahawks v Pats Superbowl.

That said I'd love to see a Rodgers v Luck Superbowl. Just can't see how a hobbled Rodgers can beat the Seahawks and the Packers run defence is shite - and the Seahawks are number 1 in run offence.

Luck has a better chance of overturning the Pats.

Should be two cracking games.
Just hope Packers can keep it close against Seattle.
Lacy will be crucial for the Packers I think.
Just hope his asthma doesn't kick up again.

Wow this should be all over already.
Packers offensive line has been brilliant giving Rodgers time.
Lacy dynamic too and the defence has come up big so far.
More of the same please but Seatlle aren't going to stay this bad though.

No comments about a QB with only one leg? Or how much time he's getting?

16-0 ... and as long as Cobb gets Tate'd, I'm ok with whoever wins this ...

The Rodgers silent count is killing the Seahawks.
I'm just upset that I haven't heard 'New York Bozo' yet though.

Awful communication from Rodgers/Cobb leads to another pick.
That changes the game I reckon.

Ha yeah.
Must be the worst half of football in the playoffs ever?
1 for 8
14 yards.
3 picks.
He's just lucky the game isn't over.

I don't know if you can get worse than that - maybe MC remembers something that is that horrible.

I'm going to sleep - I cannot honestly see a scenario unless Rodgers goes all pick sixy with the Seattle defense of the 'hawks coming out of this.

Game 1 starts with an upset, maybe Luck will follow.
