New Manager?

Well, he is.

Schalke have played a very thight and organized game all season. Scoring 53 goals all season isn't exactly great. I'm not to sure our players would like him either, he even more of a dictator than Rafa.

More suited for the German league if you ask me.

Playing tight and well organized doesn't prevent you from scoring goals.

As I said, Wolfsburg scored 80 the year before. Not exactly bad.

As for him being dictator-like - he may be a stricter type but his players trust him and I can think of some players in our squad who could use a kick in the ass once in a while.

They were pretty poor all season although towards the end their focus was clearly on the cup competitions and players were rested. Plus I guess you have to factor in that it is A.Madrid who are one of the most unpredictable teams around... lose to Racing one week, beat Barcelona the next.

I think he's a decent manager, I'm just not so sure whether he'd be good enough to come here.

At least he has shown that he can win something with a team whose stars are a world class striker, an "in the hole" player and a very very good goalkeeper.

Kenny will be temporary manager according to SKY.

Thats at least one piece of good news.

Another manager available on free - Mallorca's Gregorio Manzano

Gregorio Manzano, the man who led Mallorca for the past four and a half seasons, will not return next season because the club cannot afford to meet his technical and financial demands.

Mallorca were too skint to keep him despite their fantastic season. Has tons of experience managing at badly run, financially constricted club. :-[

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2009/dec/07/mallorca-managerial-magic-sid-lowe

This is the coach who took Rayo Vallecano from bottom to within five points of the Uefa Cup, won Mallorca's only ever major trophy and is ideally suited to difficult personalities and difficult situations. He is a former school teacher with a degree in psychology, a calm, taciturn technician who insists that a dressing room does not need to be a "war zone", who builds unity and togetherness. It is no coincidence that he got the best out of Samuel Eto'o, Ariel Ibagaza, and Dani Guiza – Pichichi at Mallorca and a waster everywhere else, his self-esteem on the floor. A striker once asked Manzano not to play him against his former club. Many coaches would have ditched him permanently for lacking commitment; Manzano listened, left him out and recalled him a week later. He scored twice.

Is no-one putting any faith in Mahogany Mark's "It will be Hodgson" statement ?

Has the option of merging the "New manager?" and "Our New Man" threads been considered by any of the administrators?

See other thread. If he had said it today for the first time I'd be having a punt accordingly. Since he did so before Rafa had gone and the King had been slotted in for now, I'm not so sure.

I have seen the other thread and this lends even more weight to Wilko's suggestion (naughty Oncy).

The bookies are paying out on the next "permanent" appointment.

I'm not a betting man. I'm just putting forward MM's info.

Fair enough, we'll see. BTW another point occurs to me - what about the compensation Mohammed Al Flyhead will want if we do approach Hodgson? Mark's always worth listening to but this is one bet I won't be taking.

Skully, I think you just fancy Flores. As with Bilic, I don't see what he's got going for him except a decent tailor and the ability to speak properly.

I want Hodgson, and I think that's who we'll we get.

And Jamie Redknapp can fuck off.

Flores is rather dashing, though.

Why can Jamie Redknapp fuck off ?
[/quote]

Dashing, good adjective

you're probably right, but i'm clutching at straws. i reckon he's got the right 'energy/good looks' for us.

Redknapp used to pass the ball sideways even more than Lucas. I imagine he would try to build his team around the Brazili-isn't.

Yes and he doesn't offend me.

I know there are quite a few who would like to kick him in the eye but I don't get it.

Fulham will resist any attempt from Liverpool to appoint Roy Hodgson as a successor to Rafael Benítez, who left Anfield by mutual consent on Thursday. The West London club claim that no formal approach has been made to speak to Hodgson, who has turned around the fortunes of the club in his 2½ years in charge.

Liverpool have been encouraged to believe that Hodgson, who is on holiday in Wales, would listen to an offer if they are given permission to speak. At 62, Hodgson would see it as a last chance to manage a big club, having twice coached Inter Milan. His wife hails from the North West and he enjoyed his time as Blackburn Rovers manager 13 years ago.

Hodgson signed a 12-month rolling contract last year and its terms allow Fulham compensation of about £2.5 million. He led Fulham to the Europa League final last season, two years after saving them from relegation.

Fulham believe that Liverpool may turn to Mark Hughes because he is out of work and there would be no compensation, but the appointment of a former Manchester United player would not be welcomed by fans. Also in Hodgson’s favour is that he has a close relationship with Kenny Dalglish, who is leading the search for Benítez’s successor alongside Christian Purslow, the Liverpool managing director.

Along with the need to appoint a manager, the other pressing matter facing Liverpool is how to convince their star players to stay at the club. Real Madrid hope to exploit the uncertainty by offering Steven Gerrard an escape route. The Spanish side are increasingly confident that the Liverpool captain will leave his boyhood club for a swansong at the Bernabéu.

Xabi Alonso, who left Liverpool to join Real in a £30 million transfer last summer, emphasised Gerrard’s quality yesterday but stopped short of calling upon him to become the latest galáctico. “Steven is synonymous with Liverpool’s insignia and I have a lot of respect for the fans and for the club,†Alonso said. “But what is not in doubt is his ability. He’s a great player with tremendous quality.â€

With Javier Mascherano keen to move to the Continent and doubts also surrounding the future of Fernando Torres, supporters’ fears about the club under the ownership of Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr are growing.

“Just when you think it can’t get any worse, it does,†Spirit Of Shankly, a supporters’ group, said. “Their recent actions are the latest in a growing and long line of reasons why the owners and other board members aren’t fit for our club.

“Leaving aside any football considerations, this will be the first time in generations that the club have dispensed with a manager without having his successor lined up.

“And they have left us looking for a successor with no transfer budget and in the midst of a sale of the club — hardly conducive to finding a long-term or serious replacement.â€

Roberto Martínez, the Wigan manager, believes that the departure of Benítez is an occupational hazard that is an inherent risk of life as a manager in the Barclays Premier League.

“I think it’s the nature of the game and at any football club, in any league in the world, when you don’t achieve your aims that you set early in the season,†he said. “That is the sort of business we are living in and as manager you understand that.â€

on holiday in wales. hodgson in a nutshell, that.

Well, apart from the fact that he derives nearly all of his income from being in their employ, I think your intimation that he's "anti-Liverpool" is wrong.
