Van Gaal gets my vote cos he's a tactical sexbomb, and I'm a sucker for that.

There's probably next to no chance of it happening though, so fuck that.

In an ideal situation, we may be looking to hire a manager with all the five qualities you listed mate. But I think depending on the ownership situation, our management may not be worried about all the qualities. Let us say, Broughton and Purslow are confident of overseeing a sale in the next 12 months, then we may look to hire someone who is (1) Cheap/Available and (2) Works within a budget. Once our ownership and financial situation stabilizes we may go for a Van Gaal.

My heart - Van Gaal.
My head - Hodgson.

I think MON is a complete non-runner on so many levels.

Van Gaal is a complete and utter wanker and I hope he never gets anywhere near Anfield never mind manager of Liverpool.

Fuck it, I'll say it.

I wouldn't have minded McClaren.

Fucking hell! The wally with the brolly?

He's a good manager. The England job came too early for him, and even then injuries killed him.

He took Middlesboro into the Top 10 in the league, and to a UEFA Cup Final. Look at the fucking state of them now.
He won the league with Twente for the first time in their history, and has now landed the highly credible Wolfsburg job.
Ferguson loved him at United, and he's tactically astute.

I'd have other choices ahead of him, like a Capello for example, but I'd have him ahead of an O'Neill every day of the week.

He'll get better in my opinion.

I used to think you were a good poster but it turns out you are a mentalist. I hope you are happy when we are signing world class players like Massimo Maccarone

Van Gaal is a good manager, but he is too attacking. We will get raped in the league. We need someone with a balance who is inbetween rafa and van gaal. In saying that, i think hiddink would be a good pick up, aswell as pellegrini. Id also have no complaints against hodgson as i think he is a class coach too.

But if MON comes anywhere near our club ill be devastated. He looks like a fucking cartoon character and would have no appeal to european or south american players 🙁

You mean I've lost your respect? -shattered-

All managers sign shite players. Get over it.

Joachim Low interests me. By all accounts, he was the tactical brain behind Germany at the last World Cup.

Klinsmann interests me too, in a morbid way. Quite like how people always slow down when they come across the scene of an accident.

I also think we could do worse than MacLaren or McClaren or MacClaren or whatever.

We should remember how untouchable Robson was in 1988.

I want a coah with a winning mentality. Hiddink could do wonders for us. More results like the 4-0 against Real would simply be something to enjoy.

Any thoughts on Van Basten?

It's hard to get in anyway excited at the prospect of a new Manager, whilst those two Yank fuckrags are still in charge.

What's the new Manager going to do - Not spend the money he makes on selling Torres & Gerrard?

Wonderful.

I just don't think McLarren is the answer to anything slightly Liverpool-related.

Maybe we could do worse like appointing Gazza but that's not the same as saying he should be even considered.

Id love Van Gaal.

The last time around we won the league we had a former great player in charge in King Kenny and as our last two managers - for all their tactical skill and nous - hasn't delivered the league title maybe we should be looking at someone with a different background and apporach?

Appoint someone who's actually been a great player in their prime? At least it narrows down the shortlist a bit.

I know you can argue that Mourinho, Ferguson, Wenger hasn't exactly been Zidane-like on the footballingpitch but I still reckon it can add something different to a team if a former great, someone everyone from Gerrard to Torres to Lucas would respect because of his sheer merits alone, would be in charge.

I'd like to think at least that could help turn us around.

So step up the likes of Kenny, Deschamps, Klinsmann, Blanc, Van Basten, Rijkaard and Laudrup.

I just want someone who will get back to basics, motivate what is already a good side and have us playing like a 'team' again.

That'll do yeah...

Van Basten, Riikjaard and Klinsmann shouldn't get anywhere near our club.
VB is a shocking manager, and Riikjaard and Klinsmann wouldn't have gotten were they are without their assistant.

If we somehow managed to get Ten Caate along with Riikjaard then he'd probably got a chance.

Pellegrini, O'Neill, Hodgeson and Hughes are the candidates imho.

I actually don't think they'll look to hard for the next couple of weeks, as I actually think the club will be sold sooner rather than later.

Pellegrini should be the front runner considering what he did with Villarreal, stunning to have them in the CL every year on a nothing budget, once in the quarters or semi's, cant remember.

Hodgson on a short-term contract, for me. If he exceeds expectations, he can stay even after the club is sold. If not, we can part ways without a huge pay-off/drama. I think he'd help stabilise the club, get the basics right, make the players like/respect/play for him, get us back in the top 4 and maybe win a cup. I'd settle for that right now.

Van Gaal obviously has better credentials, but he's a bit of a weirdo isn't he? I seem to remember him alienating players in a very Rafa-like way at Barcelona. I also thought Bayern were astonishingly shit in the CL Final. At least Fulham made a go of it.

SSN reporting this morning that Kenny will take charge for now whilst they search for a new manager, but there is no timescale for when a new manager will be appointed.

Might as well just keep him until we have new owners.

I really really don't want Kenny.

[/quote]

Me neither. I'd rather have Carra.

Pellegrini is the outstanding candidate for me when you look at his recent achievements, which far exceeds anything of the other candidates, CL experience, experience running a club with a nothing budget and achieving historic points totals for 2 different clubs in a very competitive league. There is also the connection to Reina, who he has worked with before and if the board have any sense they will want to keep him happy

Villarreal

Pellegrini took over the managerial duties of Villarreal on July 1, 2004. In his first season in charge of the club, Villarreal qualified for the Champions League after finishing third in the league and reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup. The following season Villarreal reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League 2005-06, losing to Arsenal. Villarreal eventually finished seventh in La Liga that year. The following two seasons featured Villarreal finishing in both 5th and 2nd place in the league, the latter being historic for the club. Pellegrini led "The Yellow Submarines" to the Champions league knockout stages, where they drew Arsenal once again in the quarter-finals, losing out 4-1 on aggregate.

According to percentage of points gained, Pellegrini is the second most successful South American club manager in La Liga within the last 25 years, coming after Vanderlei Luxemburgo.[2]

At the end of 2007, Villarreal offered him an extended contract until 2011. On May 31, 2009, after the last La Liga match for Villareal, Pellegrini said "nobody from Real Madrid has spoken with me. I have a contract with Villarreal, we finished the league today, and tomorrow we go on holiday", after being inquired by the press.[3] On June 1, 2009, Villareal executive announced that Pellegrini would no longer continue at the club. The Valencian club executive specified that if Real Madrid wanted to sign the Chilean coach, they would have to pay Pellegrini's 4 million euros termination clause.[4]
[edit] Real Madrid

Nevertheless announcing he was leaving on holidays, Pellegrini was announced on June 1, 2009 as Real Madrid's new manager with his formal presentation to follow on June 2.[5] He joined Real Madrid as the first manager in Florentino Pérez's second stint as Real Madrid president. After a few days, Pellegrini scouted Kaká from AC Milan because he said "If we want to win the Champions League and be the best team in the world, we need the best players in the world".[6] They later bought Cristiano Ronaldo for £80million from Manchester United later that transfer window, and Karim Benzema from Olympique Lyonnais for £30million. Despite the club's record spending they were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the round of 16, for the sixth time in a row, being beaten 2-1 on aggregate by Olympique Lyonnais. In La Liga Madrid achieved a club record of 96 points, however it was not enough to finish above Barcelona, who won the championship with 99 points. He was sacked by the club on 26 May 2010

I'd be made up if it was Carra, but that's definitely as case of heart ruling head, it doesn't seem likely or sensible. Like I said on one of the other threads yesterday, it's at least three years too early for him.
