I'd be made up if it was Carra, but that's definitely as case of heart ruling head, it doesn't seem likely or sensible. Like I said on one of the other threads yesterday, it's at least three years too early for him.

Yeah, I wasn't being entirely serious. Just emphasizing how much I don't want it to be Kenny, and how if I had to choose on heart it would be Carra instead.

Nevertheless announcing he was leaving on holidays, Pellegrini was announced on June 1, 2009 as Real Madrid's new manager with his formal presentation to follow on June 2.[5] He joined Real Madrid as the first manager in Florentino Pérez's second stint as Real Madrid president. After a few days, Pellegrini scouted Kaká from AC Milan because he said "If we want to win the Champions League and be the best team in the world, we need the best players in the world".[6] They later bought Cristiano Ronaldo for £80million from Manchester United later that transfer window, and Karim Benzema from Olympique Lyonnais for £30million. Despite the club's record spending they were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the round of 16, for the sixth time in a row, being beaten 2-1 on aggregate by Olympique Lyonnais. In La Liga Madrid achieved a club record of 96 points, however it was not enough to finish above Barcelona, who won the championship with 99 points. He was sacked by the club on 26 May 2010

Nobody, including His Majesty himself, would want the King to take the job on a permanent basis, but I really don't see an issue with him taking the reins while we find the man we DO want, rather than just go with the best we can get/afford at the moment.

As for McClaren - absolutely not. The man is an excellent coach and "managers" in Europe do a job more akin to that of a coach than to that of a manager in the Prem, so it hasn't altogether surprised me that he's done well for himself over there. However, he was lacklustre at Boro and this "got the England job too early" business is just McClaren's own way of rationalising the fact that he simply wasn't up to it.

Why exactly? Kenny commands the respect of the entire playing staff whereas Carragher's popularity may possibly have suffered considering he has just spent the last season berating some of his team mates for his own fuck ups.

No more than Gerrrad has done for the last few years Wilko 😉

My biggest concern with Roy Hodgeson is his extremely poor away record.

4 wins in the last 38 away league games, that doesn't get you into 4th spot again..
It's Fulham I know, but they're an extremely good home side, but terrible away. Sound familiar?

Well spotted. Hodgson was actually my choice among the bookies' favourites for the job if we make a permanent appointment straight away. Not so sure now. ???

Del Bosque? I know he's got it easy with spain but if they win the world cup he'll have nothing else to achieve with them.

I think we should have a look at Felix Magath of Schalke 04.

Good motivator, fitness freak and decent tactician. He gave Bayern a good challenge in last year's Bundesliga and made Wolfsburg champion the year before.

Carra as assistant to Kenny Dalglish would be an exciting combination if we truly are out of money. I can't think of anyone better than Kenny to mentor Carra as he goes about collecting the necessary badges etc.

I just don't find anyone listed inspirational and a step down from Benitez. Mourinho was far and away the stand out candidate.

I'd still like Woy.
I'm surprised how many don't see the benefits of him.
I like Roy but there's a long way from Malmö FF, FC Copenhagen and Fulham to Liverpool FC still.

He'd be my first British choice however.

EDIT: After King Kenny.

I'm amazed people want Rijkaard. He's so over-rated it's untrue, whatever that means.

Also, what makes people think Carragher would make a good manager?

Has anyone mentioned the cunt of a suggestion that is Jamie Redknapp?? Apparently he's one of the 'candidates' on the Sky Sports website.

I love the idea of Carragher as assistant for the next few years or so.

Bring in a talented attacking-minded manager and let Kenny and Carra support him the best way they can.

sanchez flores would be a very good appointment, actually. would be well happy. i'd love a british manager but i'm not into any of them.

Don't think there's much chance of him coming.

ballergay reckons he wouldn't turn us down, and i imagine he knows what he's saying. i just don't think he's what our board are looking for.
I'm not sold on Flores. A.Madrid were hilariously shit in the league this season.
didn't they get a lot better after he was appointed, though? they had a terrible start which led to a sacking if i remember.

Didn't he get sacked at the end of the 08/09 season at one of the clubs in Portugal?
When did he take over at Madrid, around November wasn't it? They only managed 9th in La Liga.

Magath is even more defensive minded than Rafa.
Bollocks.

Wolfsburg were champions with the most goals scored in 2009.

Magath always plays two up front.

How's that 'even more defensive minded'?

They were pretty poor all season although towards the end their focus was clearly on the cup competitions and players were rested. Plus I guess you have to factor in that it is A.Madrid who are one of the most unpredictable teams around... lose to Racing one week, beat Barcelona the next.

I think he's a decent manager, I'm just not so sure whether he'd be good enough to come here.

it's a risk i'd take, given the options.

He's pretty good. He doesn't get teams playing nice football from when I remember him at Bayern, but he gets them winning.
Kind of like Capello, it's not pretty but it works.
