New deal for gaffer

If were doing well in January (December is this seasons biggest test and we show if we're top four contenders or not) offer it then I say, when it comes to next summer we need to make sure there's no question marks over his head, as it will detract from our business. Just look at how the media have always gone on about Arsene only having a year let, we don't need this distraction.

This one of those reasons to hate spurs, remind me again what they have won in the last 20 years to warrant the media love in......

Rodgers is not without his faults, but I feel that he is the type who can really build a team and the longer he stays at a club, the better his team will become. He is not a short-term manager. And his ability to admit his own mistakes quickly and move on makes it less likely that he will get entangled in some perpetual war inside his head and lose the plot the way Rafa did.

So yes, I would give him a contract extension now. We are going in the right direction, even if we're not there yet. Going back to square one at this point would be nothing short of devastating.

This is how i see it to.

After a dodgy first transfer window which ties in with him recognising his mistakes the type of players hes signing and trying to sign is a massive plus, his attacking style is the right fit for our club to.

If he continues to get backed properly in the transfer market we will definately be going places under him, we are already on our way.

5 years is a long time for someone with such a patchy transfer record.

Successful signings (so far)

Daniel Sturridge Chelsea£12,000,000 (safe to say, that if we sold him now we'd make a profit)
Philippe Coutinho Inter Milan £8,600,000 (ditto)
Simon Mignolet Sunderland £10,000,000
Kolo Toure Man City Free (hasn't played many games, so he has the potential to go downhill rapidly. But most people have been pleasantly surprised by his performances)
Total 30,600,000

Unsuccessful signings (so far)

Fabio Borini Roma £10,400,000 (could turn it round, but I doubt it)
Joe Allen Swansea £15,000,000 (there will be a few that defend him, but so far we have spent 15 million on someone who hasn't played well enough to establish himself in the first team despite the team being weak in that area)
Oussama Assaidi Heerenveen £2,400,000
Nuri Sahin Real Madrid Loan (I'm sure he cost us a fee)
Iago Aspas Celta Vigo £7,500,000 (could turn it round, but I doubt it)
Aly Cissokho Valencia Loan (I think most of us agree on this one)
Total 35,300,000

Youth
Samed Yesil Bayer Leverkusen £1,000,00030
Luis Alberto Sevilla £6,800,000 (he'd need to be good for this price)
Tiago Ilori Sporting CP £7,000,000 (ditto)

Too early
Mamadou Sakho PSG £15,000,000 (Looked promising so far, but he is on the bench whilst the player he was bought to replace starts)
Victor Moses Chelsea Loan (Might be a bit generous putting him in the too early camp)

Even if we agree that the likes of Allen and Borini are "unsuccessful" signings, a 50% hit record is pretty damn good (I don't count the loans). If you discard the misfits (which Rodgers is not afraid to do) and keep your better players, you can build a very strong team in just a few transfer windows.

Another factor is the quality and competition throughout the team has improved tremendously compared to where it was a few seasons ago. Sakho or Allen might not be automatic starters at the moment, but just the fact that they are pushing for places forces whoever is playing in their place to keep a higher standard.

I can understand the Borini, Allen signings - talented youngsters who'd shown promise.

The ones I can't understand are the completely pointless ones - Aspas, Alberto, Ilori, and Assaidi. That's about 23 million of completely wasted money - without any plan to ever try and make the most of it either (well, maybe Aspas might get a few chances).

And it seems Borini and Allen are going down that route of being given up on as well. It's wasteful to say the least.

Anyway, a 5 year extension is ridiculous at this stage. Let him get us into the top 4, and we can then give him a 2-3 year extension at the end of the season.

... How can you understand the Allen and borini ones, yet not ilori and Alberto?

Because there seemed to at least be some plan on playing them - and they were both positions we needed new talent in. Their failures have been due to their own underperformance more than us not playing them (although you could argue that we could have used both better).

Ilori's our 5th choice CB. 6th if you count Coates.

Alberto was brought in when we had Shelvey, Suso and Teixeira we were unable to give games to. Henderson and Allen are preferred to them in the attacking midfield position when Coutinho is out.

I can't see them getting games for us - if they were indeed top tier talents who we just had to buy, we should have arranged loan-back arrangements immediately. As things stand, we have two 7 million players playing for the ressies and the u-20s without any reasonable chance of getting into the first team.

I would have thought we would be wiser after the EXACT same thing happened with Coates 2 years ago, but no, we insist on being wasteful year after year.

I didn't agree with you initially, but you might have a point (although I've never seen the logic behind Allen.)
