I really like this move ... We should do it more with clubs that have famed, or up and coming, academies (from .tv):

The Reds secured the signature of their second Uruguayan last week when Sebastian Coates put pen to paper on a long-term deal.

The negotiations further strengthened the club's links with Nacional and our Director of Football admits we are now close to establishing a formal relationship.

Comolli told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I've got to thank the people from Nacional, the directors and their chairman, because they have been very helpful. They tried to help the player (Coates) complete his will, which was to come here.

"They tried to find a solution for us to make it happen. We now have strong links with them because both Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates have come from this club and been developed by their academy.

"We are talking about a partnership with them that we would like to create over the next three, four or five years, to see if there is more talent coming through. Maybe we can help them to develop their standards and in turn have the ability to bring those young players here.

"During the Copa America they had 14 players out of the 23 who had at some point played at Nacional or were developed by Nacional. That is a fantastic record for their academy.

"So it is very interesting for us. We already have a strong link with South America through Lucas, Maxi and Luis.

"Since it's been such a success with Luis - and I'm sure it will be for Sebastian - why don't we try to make it an even bigger success by bringing in other players from Nacional?"

Just read this on the offal

good idea, and finally link up with a team who has a good knack of creating decent players

Hopefully we'll reap the benefits in the future

Impressive numbers in that national team there. I'd be quite happy with the next Forlan and Suarez for sure.

As with the rest of our "link ups" though, I expect absolutely nothing from this.

Good for us, but there's something pretty cynical about it in general.

Maybe it seems a little mercenary but it depends on what we're giving back. It hope it's something that turns out to be worthwhile for both clubs.

We smashed their transfer record to being Coates here, so they'll be hoping for more of the same.

I don't think there's anything mercenary about it.

If anything it could mean we buy some of their young players who might not make it. Meaning that they recoup a decent fee when normally they wouldn't

like what we're doing with MTK Hungary. Taking their best, even if 75% turn out shit, they've still made decent return

Isn't this the definition of mercenary?

I suppose if you fill a container full of Thai women some of them will be worth a few quid.

Hmm, now what was I doing again?

I like my women like I like my coffee.

Imported in containers and found smashed on the floor in Tesco.

...Look, I reckon that's the best joke I ever made. I know it's not the greatest claim to comedy genius but I still piss myself when I think about it. If I can just repeat the process like 1000 times I could make a living out of it, I'm sure.

What could we do for them to help cement a relationship. They were pretty good over the Coates deal, and when Inter started offering more they did not start fucking around.

I suppose exchange visits of coaching staff and help with say medical and phyiso rehabilitation issues, is it too far to go for a close season friendly, we could do a couple in the US and drop down to Uraguay?

regards

I remember reading somewhere that we are going to play a friendly in Uruguay as a part of the Coates deal.

If this is true and it's not all about money then it's not as mercenary as people can believe.
