my observations of the blackpool away game

Poulsen was the worst player last night. Blackpools attack had a field day in the final third all night long while he was left stranded back at the halfway line. Fucking terrible. Get over yourself KHL.

Does anyone know what was the actual formation of our midfield last night?
------Poulsen
----Lucas Meireles
Kuyt--------------Jovanovic

Something like that

KHL, read my post at the top of this page. Hopefully it shows I wasn't having a go and that there's no hard feelings.
Yeah no harm done mate. Wasn't at all looking for another 'war' on here either to be honest....

It seemed to be something like

-------------Poulsen----------------
----------------Meireles-------------
Kuyt----------Lucas------Jovanovic

Though they hardly ever kept that shape as Kuyt was his usual headless self, Lucas had been instructed (it would seem) to push on, Jovanovic was doing his best Kuyt impression and the only time I saw Crapsen/Raul is when they were giving the ball away or running into players. The midfield last night was an unmitigated disaster.

The main reason why Blackpool had a field-day was because we constantly gave away possession, constantly.

Get over yourself Paddy.

According to stats on another site, Lucas made 14 tackles, 10 of which were successful.

Raul made 4, 3 successful.

Poulsen made 5, 1 successful.

"Defensive midfielder"

The worst thing about Poulson is that he genuinely doesn't appear bothered when someone walks past him. He watches and then runs into some space away from play.

It's shocking. Adam isn't in any way fast, but he just walked past Poulson a couple of times last night and Poulson didn't even attempt at chasing after him. Compare that with Masher - he would have bust a gut to get the tackle in (and would have invariably been successful).

What's more, he has no physical presence at all (and that' not all about size). In the situations referred to above most defensive midfielders would use their body to get in the way but it's like he's some ethereal phantom figure.

He was a truly awful buy by Hodgson, comparable only to Konchesky on a 4 year deal.

Blackpool vs Liverpool: Match Thread. ATTENTION - POULSEN DOING OK!

*Match-thread title from another Liverpool forum.

From yet another site:

Poulsen 52 passes attempted , 41 successful. 5 interceptions. 5 tackles attempted, 1 tackle won.

Lucas 50 passes with 39 completed and 1 interception. Made 14 tackles, 10 of them successful

And more:

Kuyt Pass completion rate: 70.37%

Jovanovic Pass Completion rate: 65%

Lucas Pass completion rate: 78%

Poulsen Pass Completion rate: 78.8%

Meireles Pass Completion rate: 75.8%

Fucking hell Kris - Poulson (our eager to impress DM) made ONE successful tackle.

He should give his wages back.

That's extremely poor indeed.

He did however make 5 interceptions whereas Lucas made only one. And his passing success-rate was better than any other midfielder.

He is truly awful mate, there's no going back.

Thank God for you we have the excellent and underrated Agger to carry the Danish flag.

Poulsen was the DM yesterday. I think you might have been better off not posting the stats. It's only proving everyone else right. Only making one succesful tackle in a whole game is not good enough for a DM.

Kris - I watched the game. He was poor. In fact, I don't remember any major pass that covered more than 5-10 yards. His most important move the WHOLE GAME was rescuing a ball in the 2nd minute, that was played out and eventually Kelly passed it to TOrres for the opener. He did NOTHING for 90 minutes bar that. He's an average player who's no good for our club. Please stop defending him - it just makes it seem as if you're oblivious to the fact that it's a sad testament to our club's state that a player like Poulsen (or Jova, or Koncehsky etc) can start for us ...

What is the most important attribute of a defensive midfielder?
I think he was more holding actually.

He's seriously and surprisingly crap at tackling (don't remember him like that to be honest), but he's slightly better at reading the game than Lucas mind so it's very much same same with those two. They should NOT play togehter again at least, far to similar.

Poulsen is NOT good enough only proving that a lot of posters comments on here are obviously as biased as they accuse me to be.

Fact.

Most of his passes were to Martin Kelly, Agger, Skrtel, and Johnson. Sideways and backwards.

We always used to say you could forgive Mascherano for a few poor forward passes giving what he offers on the defensive side of things. Poulsen contributes neither.

Ha ha ha ha

Way to make a DM look shit man!

Most of his passes were to a defender behind him or to... wait for it... Lucas about 5 yards away.

He won 1 out of 5 tackles. He only made 5 tackles and of those he only won 1. Our DM won 1 tackle in 90 minutes against Blackpool. In a game that we lost. Deservedly.

He had a few succesful long passes to Torres but fair enough mate.

I'm not defending him as a player for Liverpool, he's not got the aqcuired standards, how many times do I have to say that before you guys acknowledge it?

I was simply accused of beeing seriously biased for not believing he was the worst player on the pitch last night, and I defended myself. Look at the thread again. I made an assessment and then posters who didn't even catch the game wanted me to 'admit' things.

Laughable.

He only got close enough to Charlie Adam to make one successful tackle.

In 90 minutes.

One tackle.

In an hour and a half of football.

I wonder how many passes Adam was able to play yesterday.

wow, talk about lies, damn lies and statistics

KHL;
how many of those passes were made into the opposition half?
how many of those passes were made in the opposition half?
how many of those passes were made going towards our goal?

Charlie Adam: 41/56 = 73.22%

Anyways it's all Poulsens fault. He was the worst player ever last night.

Even the fact you are an annoying posters is Poulsen's fault I'm sure.

KHL puts forward a convincing case.

I'm starting to feel angry Messi snatched the Balon D'or.
