Roy needs to give Glenjo a go at RW with Kelly in behind him at RB. West Brom on Sunday is the perfect opportunity to try this out.

Is Johnson at RW a pipe dream or a genuine option?

At home I'd rather have Glen Jo as a full back, that gives us much more options going forward. I'd try it away against Brum though.

I'd be willing to put fucking plessis on right wing as long as kuyt isnt there

I've been saying this for months on end. He gives us width, he can shoot with both feet and can put a great cross in. Its a no brainer and it also means if we don't get another striker we can put Kuyt in the striker role - actually that could be an argument against it!

Hey leave Dirk alone!

I thought it was worth a go in the middle of last season when Johnson was struggling for confidence, but now I'm not altogether bothered. I can't see it happening anyway, particularly if Kuyt stays. I would like Kuyt to drop to the bench against West Brom though.

I don't agree with the idea of pushing Magic forward. He knows the RB position, and playing RW is very different. It ain't broke, so don't "fix" it.

Agreed

Johnson would thrive in a wing back role

3-5-2

Aurelio would be pretty decent on the other side too..

Although we'd need a good striker for Fernando... Trouble with the BAMing..

What is so different ? Anyone can play on the wing, it's not rocket science.

He can't defend well, pushing him forward takes that pressure off him and gives him more licence to use the good parts of his game.

It makes perfect sense.

he's not a very good defender, he was dreadfull against City.
Having said that he's still our best fullback

Ross, the whole mindset is different. At RB attacking is a useful extra, at RW it's the whole point. Far more often than not RW gets the ball from behind him rather than being able to run on to it. These sorts of switches rarely, if ever, work for just those reasons.

Besides, Magic's defensive play isn't THAT bad. The idea that it is is a myth peddled by the media and it continually amazes me that so many Reds fall for it.

There's not that many right backs that are good both attacking and defending. Generally they're great at one but not so much the other. I'm not sure why Johnson gets so much attention on the matter.

I've watched about 98% of his games for us. He isn't a good defender.

Yes, but he's not a VERY good defender. The option of playing him on the wing must be examined.

If it works that'll be a first in my experience, which stretches back much further than I care to thnk about.

It's an issue but not a major one, as Cole could play behind. Gerrard and a.n. other in a marauding midfield, poulson (although I pray defour or lass) holding. Wing backs can bomb up with the 4 defensive players left. Only prob is opposition wingers who play high on the counter

Reina
Carra Skrtel Agger

Johnson Poulson Aurelio

Gerrard Jonjo

Cole

Torres

Ha. I suppose there is no stand out example JJ but Johnson's power and pace must stand him as a good chance as anyone. I think he could be an 'explosive' RW.

That's twice you've used BAM in this thread Fabio. Just saying.
