It ain't the players. . It's the manager...

He sets the team up... At the moment their is no cohesion, balls or passion from the 10 players that play in front of him, and again that comes down to the manager and his coaching methods.

Instead of changing the system to suit his players, he is hell bent on square pegging round holes to suit his system.

When have an assistant whose experience comes from the lower leagues, where this square peg round holes philosophy can pay dividends, so until the current hierarchy is changed then we will see more of the same from mingolet..

Yeah, its the coaching methods to blame for an experienced international goalkeeper throwing the ball straight to an opposing player.

He's a poor keeper, its got fuck all to do with coaching. The next manager who comes in will bin him.

So your saying the rest of the squad is poor then? .

Mingolet is lacking confidence, who wouldn't be with our back lines? Whilst I agree he is no world beater, their is more to it than just saying 'he is shit'

I didn't say he was "shit", I said he's a poor keeper. His shot stopping can be good, his distribution and command of his area isn't good enough for a top side. His flaws are obvious and it goes beyond just coaching, regardless of whether we're mis-managing other players.

He is truly fucking awful. Lots of keepers you look at and wonder at which point did he choose that position whereas with Ming you know he got put in goal aged three and got told to stay there because he can't kick a ball in a straight line to save his fucking life.

OK, he's a goalie, but first of all he's a footballer, and he fails the most basic test. Fuck him out, asap.

He's been pretty poor since we bought him. I'd be interested to see what he looks like with a decent defence infront of him

^ Nail. Head.

Why are we laying on him now when none of the 3 goals were his fault? He is dodgy but we have got bigger problems.

I've never been a major fan, but yesterday he was put under immense pressure by just how deep the whole team was.

He's always been terrible with the ball at his feet, but it doesn't help when you're set up to exacerbate his biggest weakness.

We definitely need better in the long run though.

Besides that throw - which was truly awful - I thought he did ok. Had a few good punches and claims in the air. His distribution has, and always will be, terrible though.

This thread is about him, not the rest of the problems we have. I can't believe no one has mentioned the fact he has regressed to how he was over 12 months ago. Rodgers dropped him for about 6 weeks, and to be fair, he came back and showed some improvement. BUT, this season he has gone back to being woeful. Simple matter of fact is, he is the worst keeper we have had as a number one since Westerveld.

He was ok(ish) yesterday but his usual, unexplained fucking about moments which near led to goals. He just spreads panic and uncertainty across the defence, and that's not good.

His kicking and touch at times is hilarious. He seems to make life hard for himself at times. Good shot stopper, that's about it.

I don't think a top team can carry a goalkeeper with poor distribution skills regardless of his shot stopping ability. You need a rounded individual, and most importantly you need an independent character with high self confidence. Mignolet strikes me as the nervous type and that shows and transmits itself to team mates.

100% agree. Plus this "ahh hes only young he needs to grow into dominating his box and marshaling the defence...that comes with time" He's 27; TWENTY SEVEN... and his fucking girlfriend is the one being credited with his resurgent form by giving him the morale boosting speech? Fuck me.

I don't hate him, and I believe he feels he is trying his best, but he's just so fucking limp. I'm very very surprised we didn't jump in for Begovic or Krul.... neither of whom are ideal, but genuinely have to represent an improvement on Simon.

My thoughts exactly.

I think we should keep the ball away from him by:
a) keeping the ball up the other end
b) defending properly when we lose the ball
c) not involve him in tippy tappy sessions across the box before inevitably lumping it

Hes not good enough, and in truth he never really has been, every goalkeeper has blips but his poor decision making and distribution are just far too frequent. Hes as bad now as he ever was.

Cant remember the game last season where the ball was played back to him and he couldnt decide what to so so he just stood over it and watched it roll out of play giving away a corner, it was at that point I gave up on him, you cant coach that sort of terror out of a player his age. Its a miracle hes lasted this long, we really should have replaced him by now. The difference in standard between Mignolet and the top 5 keepers is embarrassingly big, and the next manager will almost certainly replace him at the first opportunity.
