Mohamed Salah Link 2017

Mane has pace in addition to intelligence, composure, close control, acceleration, trickery in the box, and so forth. Salah didn't have most of those other things last time around. There's a chance he'll be ineffective, and a chance that Mane has lost plenty of pace and acceleration and mental toughness thanks to his injury. You're expecting Barnes and Beardsley, when I think you should be fearing Pennant and Downing.

Salah definitely has all of those attributes too (watch the effing vids), indeed, his number of assists suggests he may have even more strings to his bow. Pennant hasn't as many goals in HIS CAREER as Salah has managed in the past two seasons, they are a world apart in terms of their ability, pace and danger to opposing defences. The Downing/ Pennant comparison is clueless. If Mane has lost his acceleration and pace(which we can only hope isn't the case) then it is even more important that we buy an attacking player with these attributes.

If, as reported, the final fee is 35m then I'm happy with this signing.

I have my reservations about Salah, but more so from a mentality point of view where if he is not starting week in week out he might have a cry about it.

BUT - having watched him for Fiorentina and As Roma quite alot, he's a player worth spending 35m MAX on.

Offensively, he is devastating on the same level as Mane - I'd say Salah is a better finisher.

I just hope his defensive game progresses under Klopp, that's his only real area of big improvement. Tactically he is brilliant, you have to be to thrive in Serie A at a club like Roma.

Let's hope there looks is the only thing that similar.

So, did Maureen give him a fair crack? Clearly not. He had an abundance of riches, and we all know how conservative Maureen is when it comes to introducing new, younger players. All this talk about him 'failing' at Chelsea is bullshit. He also had the public defamation by Maureen, always good for morale.
Mourinho put him into just six of his starting Premier League line-ups and on four occasions he was substituted. He made another four appearances off the bench.
One of those starts was at Anfield in the ill-fated 0-2 reverse which derailed the Reds’ Premier League hopes. Salah played 60 minutes before he was hauled off by Mourinho and replaced by Willian.
Liverpool fans had other things on their minds that day but it’s fair to say Salah’s performance didn’t exactly take the eye.
Just a week later at Stamford Bridge and Mourinho replaced him at half-time in a 0-0 home draw with Norwich which ended Chelsea’s slim title hopes.
Salah finished the season with two goals - against Stoke and Norwich - and two assists but had failed to earn the trust of his manager.

The 2014/15 season saw him barely get a look in.
In the Premier League he played just eight minutes against Swansea as a substitute in September, four minutes against Crystal Palace as a substitute in October and 18 minutes against Spurs on New Year’s Day.
In the EFL Cup he played in the third round and last 16 - Mourinho publicly saying he had disappointed him in a victory against Shrewsbury - and he wasn’t part of the Chelsea team which went on to beat Liverpool in the semi-finals. He played 70 minutes of the humiliating 4-2 home FA Cup exit to Bradford while the Champions League group stages brought one start in victory against Sporting Lisbon.
By the start of February he was on his way to Fiorentina on loan.

No need to worry there - on a completely different level to Pennant.

I swear to God - about 6 months after Pennant signed for us I recall reading an interview where he marvelled at the genius of Benitez.

He specifically stated about how Benitez taught him the tactical side of being a winger - "when to tuck in, when to stay wide" ... that is legit under 10's level shit right there.

It's just struck me that we went into the 2007 Champions League Final with Pennant on one wing and Bolo Zenden on the other AND STILL SHOULD HAVE WON.

WT tuppenny F?

Some of the skillz in this video are ludicrous. If Oncy doesn't crack one off to this then I don't know the man. (Lots more evidence of him playing on the right side here too. Where he looks awesome.)

Yep, Salah failing at Chelsea is complete nonsense.

People can say Cuadrado was a failure at Chelsea - yet he's now good enough to be starting winger for Juventus?

Fact is Mourinho has not been the best at nurturing offensive talent.

Joe Cole was not the player he should have been at Chelsea under him. Such a gifted player, but at Chelsea he was doing more defensive work rather than being given the freedom to go express himself on the pitch. Tiago another player who had more demands put on him in a defensive sense, yet at Atletico he contributes so much more in attack.

Mata another good example - player of the season until Mourinho arrived and shipped him out. Only reason he has stuck with Mata at United is because the lack of depth in that position.

I'm convinced a large part of his purchase of Salah was because we were interested and we were pressing for the league. C*nt that he is.

Possibly, but who knows the real reasons about that moment.

Chelsea got him because they met the asking price set by Basel - added depth to Chelsea's squad and for 11-13M that's a small price to pay to be adding depth.

But kudos to Salah for progressing his game to another level after that debacle, not only impressive to bounce back at such a young age but to do it in a league where it's tactically the toughest to do so as a winger.

The best part about Salah's signing?
@Roopy is posting more and more ...

a) can you post more in general?
b) start a thread about the top 5 serie a talents we've not heard of ...

I've had quite the hiatus on there for the last 5 years or so - amazing what happens once you finish uni and start working full time and have less time to post on football forums haha - but slowly getting back into it.

I'll do my best to keep posting.

In regards to Serie A talents - let's just say we have dodged a big bullet in not signing Zielinski. Absolute junk.

Erm ... am i the only one not getting excited by the videos ?

All of his best bits are on the counter, and even then there's lots of iffy decision making resulting in losing possesion.

The videos are ludicrously good. Look at all the lovely goals and assists! Klopp is all about making the most of the transition, that's where your best chances come from. This boy is a master of picking the ball up in not particularly threatening situations and making them threatening. I don't know what you're looking at. Those vids make me think he's a bargain.

Remember when people were posting Quaresma videos a few years back and everyone wanted him to sign for us?

And this was after we smashed Besiktas at Anfield, before which Quaresma said he would "make the Kop cry" and played the worst 90 mins of football in his career.

I hear the Blues are bitter
With Mo Salah and his nutmegs,
They seem a bit confused,
And "No More" they begged,
Cause they don't know what to do with Mo Salah and his nutmegs.
He's scoring again

I'm with you on this - I think they purchased him just so we couldn't.

The vids leave me with slightly mixed feelings. I like the way he can turn an ordinary situation into an opportunity in the blink of an eye, but there's just a touch of the Shaun Wright-Phillipses about his running style which niggles at me a little. Hopefully his pace will mean that doesn't matter.

I don't mind if he has a running style reminiscent of Monty Python's school of silly walks. His stats again suggest that he has an incredible capacity for end product, something SWP never had to any great extent.

In fact, just look at all those cool finishes. SWP couldn't do that in his dreams.

There are some really strange negatives here. He looks a bit like Pennant. He runs a bit like SWP. In my youth people said I looked a bit like Patrik Berger (not so much now!) but the similarities went no further I can promise.
