I don't mind if he has a running style reminiscent of Monty Python's school of silly walks. His stats again suggest that he has an incredible capacity for end product, something SWP never had to any great extent.
Judging from the clips he doesn't appear to have tremendous top speed, but more so extremely quick feet. And I think that's a key skill for a winger in our setup as we will face a lot of defensive teams where his dribbling ability and explosiveness will come in handy.

I am warming towards this signing albeit still feeling a bit clueless as to how good he actually is. So maybe it's just me being hopeful.

I dunno.

*Shrugs*

Really? I think he has both acceleration and excellent speed.

Return of the Mo, come on
Return of the Mo, oh my god
Return of the Mo, once again
Return of the Mo, goal, goal, goal

*Yeah I know.. I will NOT quit my day job..*

I think you should if it's anything involving songs, lyrics, poetry or any part of the creative arts at all.
PS Not even a single ounce of love my for Que cera-attempt? It's stuck on my mind..

*wanders off to the tune of 'Mo Salah, Salah, a winger so fine you are..'*

Nah - I liked it. It was a more realistic attempt than my multi harmonised version entitled 'Mo Salah' - to the tune of 'Papua New Guinea' by 'Future Sound Of London'. I fear the Kop is not ready for my efforts.... Yet....🙂

I'm cautiously optimistic. Growing up in the Evans, Houllier years I've never seen the club with two pacey wingers. Leonardson, Murphy, Gonzalez, Riera, Nunez, and a whole lot of other slow/average shite. The thought of Mane, Firmino, Coutinho and Salah counter-attacking would genuinely scare me as an opposition player or manager. To get the best out of this set up we may have to invite teams onto us, similar to how Chelsea won the league this year. They sit back and pounce rapidly with Hazard and Moses providing rapid transition from midfield to attack. If we can do something similar then we will be one hell of a prospect. It's not something that would dramatically us tactically. I dont think Klopp will change from a 4-3-3 to Conte's style, but it will certainly add another dimension to our attacking play and I hope we can make the most of it.

Mo Salah's gonna run away from you
There's nothing that all your defenders could do
We bless the goals scored by Mo Salah
Gonna score all the goals to make you sad

(To the tune of the chorus to Toto, Africa)

That's a belter.

I do wonder if he might consider a 3-4-3, or at least have it as an option.

Quiffer. It's the tune of "Che sera sera" and I thought of it first. Didn't you Danes have enough of turning up and stealing stuff from us in King Alfred's time?

Go with Rosanna

Scores every day ...
Saaaalaaaaah
(and you write the rest)

Anyways, I can see my genius is wasted round these parts so I think I will leave the rest of you to write your hopeless little ditties

In fact, just look at all those cool finishes. SWP couldn't do that in his dreams.

There are some really strange negatives here. He looks a bit like Pennant. He runs a bit like SWP. In my youth people said I looked a bit like Patrik Berger (not so much now!) but the similarities went no further I can promise.

The reason I raised the point about his running style (for which I offer no apology) is that that played a part in SWP failing to fully sustain a promising early career. After a while the best defenders cottoned on to it and learned how to give him enough rope to hang himself. I'm not saying it's going to be a problem in Salah's case, but it's a legitimate question to raise.

The videos are ludicrously good. Look at all the lovely goals and assists! Klopp is all about making the most of the transition, that's where your best chances come from. This boy is a master of picking the ball up in not particularly threatening situations and making them threatening. I don't know what you're looking at. Those vids make me think he's a bargain.

I think they are a bit of a mixed bag. I get what you see but most teams take away our opportunity to catch them on the break, so i wonder how many opportunities he'll get like the ones in those vids.

Its also notable that he's very one footed - teams sitting deep against us are just going to force him to his right foot every time. Of he can figure out how to still be effective in those circumstances then we have a player on our hands.

It does look a bit odd doesn't it.. but he makes swp look like a slouch, I think In certain situations it's just impossible to defend against that sort of speed, I'm not overly concerned

This is what the echo had earlier:

In the game against Fiorentina (last season), Salah covered a distance of 70m in just seven seconds starting from zero, which according to analysis conducted by Athletic Sprinting specialists mean that he can finish the 100m race in just 10 seconds.

Assuming it's anywhere near accurate, it makes for a prospect in its own right

Not asking for an apology JJ!

Do you think it was anything to do with his running style though, or even defenders figuring him out? I think he was just one of those wingers who was a flash in the pan, and even at his brief best (a few seasons at Man City) he never scored more than 10 league goals in any one season and scored a creditable but ultimately pedestrian total of 26 goals in 153 league appearances. When he moved to Chelsea (on this record) he wasn't able to push on, but I'd suggest that Salah already is performing at a better level. Salah has 43 in 109 games since he went to Italy and 29 goals in 52 internationals (and this on top of loads of assists too). I just think Salah's record suggests he is a different class to SWP and that the difference is more to do with intelligence and ambition rather than running style.

£39M for Salah is mental, even at Roma they probably cant believe how silly we are.
He's not worth half of that.

150M..sounds very like Rafa or Houiller crazy spending days on average players

Given some of these other fees, I'm not so sure I agree with that.
35 mill for a 25 year old winger who has scored 35 goals in 81 games for Roma, and coming off a brilliant season and being a Key player for the team that finished 2nd in the league. Thats probably what you'd expect to pay.

25 mill for Pickford, 17 mill for Maguire etc.
Puts things in perspective.
