Was the signing of Markovic a back-up plan after we lost out on Miky to Dortmund. If so it could be plausible that we'd consider shipping Markovic (who hasn't worked out but tbf hasn't been given a fair chance) out and replacing him with our original first choice.
Also, it seems ManU were interested in him and he is exactly what they need. So, if we pull a Chelsea and just sign someone so a rival can't, I can support that.
Actually wonder if he is an alternative to Kovacic - our Gerrard replacement? In some ways, Milner is the Gerrard replacement, but not for too long given his age.

I suspect this is a regurgitation of a story in the Mirror I think from a few days ago, which used a report from Italian media linking us with a move for him.
All this despite the actual Italian reports not linking him to us all but to Juve.

Indpendent saying its been accepted now too. Although his own twitter account somewhat vaguely says hes looking forward to the Bundesliga this weekend so its likely to be bullshit. If he doesnt line up for Dortmund today then I fully expect the rumour to gather pace.
It would be a very odd signing if it did happen given the number of attacking mids we already have but hes miles better than Lallana or Markovic so if we were shipping one of them out the door then it would be a huge improvement. We could probably still get 15 million for Lallana. Plus hes really more of a midfield player that either of those two or Coutinho

Just checked - Mino Raiola's his agent. Could it be possible that this is a tradeoff we had to do to get Balotelli off our books? For example, Raiola smooths the path for us to dump Balotelli, but we have to pick up his other client in return.
I think Dortmund and the player himself would have more say in the matter than his agent.
I'm of course assuming that both club and player are looking to part ways, or at least Dortmund is looking to let go.
If this is our replacement for Lucas, I'd be upset ... Mkhitaryan is a good AM, who chips in with a lot of of goals etc, but he's not a DM ... which as Ryan ensured we all know, is very important!
I wouldn't put my house on his son signing for us.
