Anyone see the incidents were Bolasie and Brown got sent off? Its mind boggeling that Dowd let Mirallas stay on.

Just the Brown tackle, if he caught the players leg instead of the ball it'd be a red but he got the ball....

Why did he get sent off for that? The right foot's studs came up only after the Stoke guy had leapt over, and it seemed more of a trailing effect of the sliding tackle (with the left foot studs down and the player side foot smashing the ball even). Nobody was even near those studs.

The odd thing was how long he took before making a decision. It was as if he was playing out whole different scenarios in his head. And I think he knew it was a red and he bottled it. He was using every trick in the book to play for time - suddenly deciding one player ought to leave him alone (whilst ignoring all the others), having a chat with the physio, telling one more player to walk away, having another chat with the medical staff, etc etc. He was shitting himself. If you're immediately doubtful about it, give it a yellow. I don't see how taking minutes is going to improve that initial judgement. He hadn't got a replay to watch, and unless he's got a photographic memory complete with alternative angles and a magnifying facility, I don't know what was going on in his head. 'Phil, Phil, I thought that wasn't too bad a tackle. Yes, Phil, I agree with you, but hang on a bit...Yes, I still agree with you, but hang on...yep, still do...' All he could do was ask his assistant and then get the card out. He was hopelessly clueless out there.
My theory at the time was that he had made up his mind that if Suarez was forced off injured he would give red, but if he was OK he would leave it at yellow. Not that it should have made a difference, but seemed the only reason I could think of that he waited so long.

They should have stretchered Suarez off, wait for the red and then have him sprint back on.

[article=http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/everton-3-liverpool-3-i-thought-i-was-going-to-be-sent-off-for-luis-suarez-foul-admits-kevin-mirallas-8961002.html]The match had only just kicked off when Mirallas reminded Suarez of how he put his studs into his foot in last season’s Goodison derby, a challenge which deprived Everton of his services in the second half. “When we were standing close to each other, I said ‘Do you remember last season, you kicked me?’” Mirallas admitted. “He laughed and said, ‘Yes, fair enough.’ But that tackle was nothing to do with a year ago.”

When he went in so high on Suarez, he was preparing to be dismissed. “Sometimes when you put a tackle in you think ‘Oh shit,’ like this one. The first thing I thought was that it was going to be a red card. I was genuinely going for the ball but I know I caught him on the knee.”[/article]

Kevin Mirallas admits he expected to be sent off for his knee-high challenge on Luis Suarez duringEverton's 3-3 draw with Liverpool.

The midfielder was only shown a yellow card after leaving his foot in on the Uruguayan as Everton battled back from 2-1 down to lead the derby before Daniel Sturridge netted an 89th-minute equaliser.

Rodgers blasted the tackle after the game, suggesting the punishment could have been different had Suarez been the guilty party, and Mirallas says he would not have been surprised if he was dismissed.

"Sometimes when you put a tackle in you think 'oh s***', - like this one," he told reporters. "When I made the challenge the first thing I thought was that it was going to be a red card.

"I was genuinely going for the ball but I know I caught him on the knee and I said sorry straight away.

"I might have been okay because it was the derby, because in those matches there is always a lot of contact, a lot of tackles going in. There is a lot of pressure on the players and the fans in these sort of games."

"I had said to Suarez soon after the kick off when we were standing close to each other 'do you remember last season, you kicked me?'.

"He laughed and said 'yes, fair enough', but that tackle was nothing to do with a year ago. And Suarez played for a long time after that with no problem, with no injury, so he was okay, and I am glad he wasn’t injured."

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, meanwhile, is adamant the challenge deserved a red card, but sympathised with referee Phil Dowd's tough task of making an instant assessment in heated surroundings.

"To be fair to the referee when I initially saw the incident I was thinking yellow card," he said. "I was probably the same distance away from it as the referee so you have to give him the benefit of the doubt.

"Now I have seen it again though it’s a red card, everyone knows that, but it’s very difficult to say that in a split-second and at that distance. I’d rather back the referee than have a go at him."
