AS Roma's highly-rated striker Jeremy Menez is a reported transfer target for Liverpool with sources in the Italian press suggesting that Rafael Benitez is leading the chase for his signature.

The versatile French ace, who can also play as a winger or second striker, has become the subject of interest from several clubs in the Barclays Premier League but the Reds are believed to be monitoring the player's situation after a high-profile fallout with Giallorossi boss Claudio Ranieri.

Should the former Sochaux and Monaco star secure a move to Anfield, it would initially be on loan due to Benitez's limited budget in the January transfer window. It is believed that the Spaniard will have to secure loan signings in the current market with an allocated budget of £1.5 million being spent on the deal to bring Maxi Rodriguez to Anfield.

The Agentina winger is expected to secure his transfer from Atletico Madrid in the next 48 hours but a move for Menez could also be on the cards despite Marseille hoping to lure the 22-year-old with a return to his homeland.

However his agent Alain Migliaccio has dismissed the link as the Ligue 1 outfit are currently eyeing a move for Inter Milan's equally versatile midfielder Manchini.

He said: “Menez to Marseille? That is not true at the moment, while Marseille are also set to sign Mancini.

“I don’t know what the future will hold for Jeremy. I will talk with Roma next week.â€

It is believed that relations between Liverpool and Roma are good following the successful transfers of John Arne Riise and Alberto Aquilani between the clubs and Ranieri has revealed that he would listen carefully to offers for the tempremental Frenchman, who has netted just three times for the club since arriving in the summer of 2008.

He said: “If there are requests from other clubs for our players, we will evaluate them.

“I want to have players here who believe in the project and will give their all for the collective cause.â€

Not sure if the source is valid, but I remember he was very highly rated before he moved to Roma. He's quick and direct, so I wouldn't mind seeing him here on a loan to inject some pace to our plodding attack.

On a side note, while looking for his clips, I also came across this Roma player we could very well have done with this season:
John Arne Riise - The Roman Thunderbolt

I think keni and a few others banged on about him before his move to Serie A where he hasn't seen much time. I remember watching a few games of his pre-Roma and he's a gifted lad. Not sure why it's not clicked for him in Italy but this kind of signing would be good I think.

Made the mistake of looking at the Riise link first; too depressed now to look at the other link.

Damn he was good for us; the hair still stands up on the back of my neck when I watch "that" free kick.

Three goals since 2008? Great

I suppose all the people dissing Kenwyne Jones will think Menez is fab

It's not good reading but at least the lad looks like he possesses some talent. He looks a bit on the greedy side to me also.

I saw him playing for Roma against Inter Milan late last year and he looked very good in that game. He wasn't afraid t take on opponents and forced a couple of very good saves out of the Inter goalie.

Yes Whitey, he can play on the left. I'd like to see him here too.

Riise's one of the finest strikers of the ball in the game.

It was a shame he was too trigger happy sometimes, but he cannot be blamed given our lack of creative and movement throughout the last two regimes. Even Masher's at it now.

That really depends on whether you include accuracy in your evaluation - which I think you have to before making such a claim.

If you're talking about raw power, then he's right up there but for every shot Riise gets on target, he puts six or seven in row Z.

There are dozens more consistent strikers of a ball in world football.

I love JAR's goal against Arsenal when he slid it in near post. Cracking run and finish.

I think you are being very generous

Heh, well I love Johnny Rockets so didn't wanna be too damning of him. I also couldn't be bothered to look up the stats to see what the real figure is. Of course you're right though.

Gerrard's first time pass with the outside of his right foot was better imo.

I'd take Menez in a flash. He needs to work on his finishing, but he's got the right attitude. The players we are getting linked to right now are all top quality unique signings. I wonder if Tom Hicks could possible be serious?

What, is his "under the crossbar technique" a bit poor?

moment, sorry I obviously meant roof of the net but still your posts still lack any substance at all. You serve us much purpose as rage if he didn't talk about football.
