As for Piquionne. If this is the standard of player we're chasing we're royally fucked.

There's also a daft rumour going round the city about Saha coming to us
I was slightly hoping we were in for him. He's a goalscorer. Old and decrepit sure, but he's still scoring

As I said in Redshreks thread, I wouldn't be against Saha joining us.

Proven goalscorer, pace, experience and a quality player.
His injury record is the drawback though.

The Saha thing came up on a thread again the day before yesterday, can't remember who it was, but along the lines of the Blue shite would only give him a one year contract and we were willing to give two....

regards

Rafa Benitez has reportedly joined the race to sign Lyon striker Frederic Piquionne.

*Wants in on this (very) high five*

Sorry if it's been posted but:

"Speaking to Sport.co.uk, the 29-year-old’s agent Jurgen Milewski made clear that talks were ongoing and that the chances of a January switch to Merseyside were indeed high"

“No. There is no news currently at present. But I can say the chances of a transfer are high,†stated the representative".

Not at all Sunny, I was just bringing you up to speed,

To those who have seen him more frequently than myself - how does he fair on the left? Is he actually any good out there?

I can't see Dirk being replaced at RWF, although I think it should be done.

Someone said he's comfortable on the left but prefers the right (some of the goals in the video clip come from the left, most from the centre/right).

I've seen Atleti a few times and I've only noticed him in the middle of the pitch ... He hovers around there even when he starts on the right wing.

Agent: Liverpool Rodriguez deal close

Sport.co.uk understands Liverpool are a step closer to securing the signing of Atletico Madrid winger Maxi Rodriguez on an initial short-term loan agreement. The Argentine international has his heart set on a move to Anfield and is a stage closer to a move to Liverpool the player’s agent has revealed.

Speaking to Sport.co.uk, the 29-year-old’s agent Jurgen Milewski made clear that talks were ongoing and that the chances of a January switch to Merseyside were indeed high:

“No. There is no news currently at present. But I can say the chances of a transfer are high,†stated the representative.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez was reportedly worried that Argentine club Boca Juniors were interested in the playmaker’s services, however the Reds look set to win the race to sign the talented midfielder.

A deal to sign the former Espanyol player could be completed as soon as tomorrow morning with Benitez keen to replenish his dejected and out of form squad. Reports in Spain suggest Rodriguez was so desperate to engineer a move to Liverpool he was willing to take a large pay cut on his 4.4 million euros a year wages.

It has not been confirmed whether Rodriguez will move on a short-term loan move to Liverpool or a permanent deal. The majority of reports suggest the Argentine will initially move on a loan deal that will become permanent in the summer transfer window.

Nice.

We could still do with adding a bit of pace to the side this window but beggars can't be choosers I suppose.

Where will Rafa play him?
On the right but will he drop Kuyt?
In the middle but what about Mascher, Aqua and Lucas?
On the left? Thats not his position so I guess thats probably where Rafa is gonna play him.
Good player but lacks match fitness at the moment.

Our main priority is a striker.

May as well throw a dart at a Subbuteo pitch.

Could be anywhere with this boss.

All valid points great player but we don't need him we need a striker

So our inability to get the ball upfield by our lack of width/creativity in the centre to get the ball to a striker, should be rectified by a striker. I agree we need more strikers but based on current form we appear to be a bit crap at making chances

Fuck, the way some of you are going you'll not be happy even if we sign Kaka.
He's shite, who the fuck'd want him?

Heh, he's played 24 games this season, the match fitness will be fine.

As for where he'll be played, I'm guessing Rafa will drop Kuyt more to be honest. He's had a lot of stinkers this year, and that will be delt with.

He's played a bit on the left aswell.

Great news if we get him. I was hoping we'd get him before he signed his last contract with Athleti.

Perhaps his signing might make Masher feel more comfortable in Liverpool, you never know.
