Maxi Rodriguez on loan for rest of the season?

Rafa Benitez today revealed Liverpool are hoping to sign Maxi Rodriguez from Atletico Madrid - but the deal has yet to be completed.

The gaffer told his weekly press conference: "It's true we've talked to Atletico Madrid and we're interested in the player but still it's just conversations.

"You never know with timescales. It's a question of everything being more or less agreed, and now it's for Atletico and the player to talk and see what happens."

Yeah miraculous management selling Keane £15m 6 months after having bought him £20M

Rafa = Jesus
He didn't. Stop using untruths to batter Rebel (and Benitez as usual).
Think it was actually 12 million,John.
The fee (as reported by more reputable sources than internet fuckwits - not you Avvy) was £20m. Down payment of £10m followed by further payments on an annual basis.

The fee back (again as reported by more reputable sources than internet fuckwits) was that they paid back the £10m downpayment. The loss we made was on wages - which is hardly a loss as he did play for us - and agent fees.

Yes, he shouldn't have bought Keane but no, he did not lose £10m or even £5m of LFC's transfer kitty in the process.

This thread in a nutshell.

1 - Page 1 - 'Maxi is awesome, this'd be great, no risk, super player. I'd be delighted with this signing'

2 - The Forum Principles are a fucking joke.

3 - Page 30 - 'What's the point in this signing? He's slow, old, done nothing in years, and Benitez's record with transfers is shambolic'

Not to mention Babel, Kuyt, Voronin, Lucas et all thrown in at some stage too i'll bet.

I was bluffing, don't think Lucas was mentioned but then again I didn't read every post in this gigantic mess of a thread.

Nice summary. HAHA! Or is it considered derisory if I laugh after the comment?

Balague says the deal will be wrapped up soon.
The 1,5 mill will be used to pay out his salary at Atletico. And we'll sign him for free.
Great piece of business there Rafa. I have high hopes for Maxi.

page 33, deal is off....

Ha ha ha !

An encouraging deal for a number of reasons. One - Maxi's a quality player. Two - he specifically wanted to come to LFC, so we clearly haven't lost all our attraction for potential signings yet. Three - he's got a World Cup place to play for, so we can hope he'll be well up for the challenge. Four - it suggests Masher's heart is still here, because it's hard to believe there wasn't some kind of discussion between the two of them before the move went through.

"He has had some problems and he was not playing at the same level that we know he can but he is playing well for Argentina.

"He can score goals, he has character, he can understand the game so he has quality. He is not the kind of right winger who can beat players with pace but he has ability and he can do a job for the team.

"He knows Mascherano and Torres so it is good for them also. I talked with them about him and they spoke really well about him."

hahahh heven benitez knows what kind of siging this is. fuck me

Haha dantes

Yes, well if there's a slow winger around you just know Benitez will be first in the queue

Hopefully though, this one won't be slow and also a bit rubbish

*fingers crossed*

That doesnt fill me with hope, I have to say. That said Beckham would be an asset on the right wing & he's never been able to beat anyone. Not that I expect this bloke to be able to whip crosses in of that quality. It'd be nice to SOMETHING coming into the box though, cos at the moment we have nothing.

He's got one hell of a shot and is someone defenders are cautious of. He will be an upgrade on Dirk on the right. Hopefully this will allow Dirky boy to get some games as a back-up/support to Torres

Reina

Magic Carra Agger Aurelio

Mascher
Maxi Gerrard Flossy

Kuyt Torres

Yossi on the left of a 4-4-2 would be even worse than on the left of the current formation
Agreed but who else have we got? Riera is still injured and Babel is bloody hopeless.

I'd rather play Babel. Or more realistically, Kuyt or Maxi.

On the right, Yossi has been one of our better players. On the left, he's been one of our worst.

It should really be an easy decision.

Isn't Riera back fit now?

As average as he is, he is still our best option on the left I think, unless Maxi is able to do the business there.

In 'light' training in the run up to Spurs so may be a week or so away from the subs bench - then match fitness and form to be regained. :-\
