if the 01 team was as good as the 07/8 team they would have won the league so more rubbish from Oncy

it was also easier back then with no Chelsea and City spending half a billion each
So the mancs at one of it's peaks, arsenal being incredible, all these factors mean nothing? Last year every team was a lot poorer and we didn't fucking win the league. 07/08 we were shite.
It's a shame and travesty that Rebel actually forces our hand so much with his extreme views that we are actually forced into nit picking our own team just to try shut him up. He actually has an ability to make us turn on our own team just to try and dissuade him of his views.
He is embedded in a extremity so far removed from reality that there is no coming back for him so we should give up.

Babel £16million
Keane £20million
Dossena £8million
Aquilani £20milion*

*If some of the stories are to be believed he no longer fancies him.
Regardless of the money spent, rafa has been pretty woeful in the transfer Market Rebel.
Since the dissolution of houlliers team we have won nothing.
We have a better keeper and one world class forward to show for 6 years (13 transfer windows), and everywhere else we are weaker (or at best equal to) than we were when he took over.
That's the rub kid (rebel) Talk about cleaning up your mistakes all you like. We aren't progressing as a squad in any way*

*I still hold out hope for his youth policy.
the squad is worth considerably more and if he was so woeful in the transfer market HOW did he manage to receive the third highest fee for a player in the league's history, how has he managed to sign the best striker in the world. HOW has he managed to sign one of the best goalies, the best DM, etc. this is niot the record of someone woeful in the transfer market. I'd say Houllier was woeful in the transfer market, go and look at the players he bought and what they were sold for
So what about the other 80 or so players he's signed? We KNOW he got Torres, Reina, Mascherano and Alonso right, we KNOW that, so putting that aside (and bearing in mind I don't give afuck how much money we recoup by selling his failures who were NEVER good enough to play for us in the first place) explain Babel, Keane, Skrtel, Sissoko, Morientes, Nunez, Gonzalez, Zenden, Itjande, Carson, Pennant, Lucas..... This list goes on and on mate and the FACT is player for player we are worse than we were when he took over.
Reina, Gerrard, Torres and Mascherano are the ONLY players who have improved their positions. That's it. 6 years and 100's of millions spent and still (if time weren't a factor) 2001's Henchoz, Finnan, Riise, Hamman, Murphy, Hyppia, Owen and possibly Berger or Smicer would walk into our team and improve it. Thasafack!
so we KNOW that so lets focus on the failures.

We have signed many players, we have sold many players under Benitez. for someone woeful in the transfer market to get the third highest fee in the league's history for a player he paid £10m for is not bad going, to sign the best striker in the world is not just lucky and it doesn't happen every day, it's exceptional yet you think he is woeful in the transfer market? Have you LOOKED at what other managers have done lately? many if not all are a lot worse (bar Wenger)

so for you to hysterically say Benitez is woeful is wrong and makes you look silly.
So you are just going to ignore the massively unimpressive ratio of shit signings to good and just keep repeating that he isn't woeful in the transfer Market because we sold Alonso for a lot of money and Torres us worth a lot? Is that it then? End of argument? He's not woeful because once in a bluemoon he signs a worldy, and it doesn't matter about all the shit we've signed and how our first team hasn't improved because-
a) see the first sentence.
b) he sometimes gets decent money shipping the shit on proofing what a Market trading genius he is.

Cool, good chatting with you.
so all the shit he signed managed 87 points in a harder era but the superior 01 team couldnt manage it?
Look I understand what your trying to do, you think that by making up something I didn't say and then by boring everyone to tears with mindless detail about how this league is harder to win than that one you somehow think people will forget what a tedious cockend you've made of yourself for the last 10 pages. I hope they do Rebel, but I'd rather rub glass into my bellend than continue this charade any longer. It's like arguing with a child....an autistic child.....with brain damage....born of a relationship between a man and a handicapped chimp.

I always had you down as a big Babel fan. I'm nearly positive there was a thread (only last season) when you were showering him with praise for having the balls to take his wild pop shots at goal. If i'm wrong as you said ignore that line above.

As for Kuyt, come on are you serious? Kuyt has been very important to us in the past. He has scored in plenty of important games for us and is imperative in a big game. Yes he is in a slump which he tends to go through each season but he is stil a very important player for us. I would have no problems with him being rested for a while so he can find his mojo again but only a fool would want rid of Dirk Kuyt,.
I give every player a chance, and like most I hoped Babel would come good, but I gave up on him a long time ago, mainly because I think he lacks heart and thinks he's way better than he is.

Kuyt has scored important goals, yes. But tally up his goals over the years and look at his performances week in, week out, and honestly tell me he does enough to be an *offensive* player that starts every game for Liverpool if we're to be genuine challenger for the title? Really?

And then ask yourself if that position was occupied by someone else, would we get a better return, in terms of goals and overall performances and contributions?
I couldn't be bothered discussing the merits of Dirk Kuyt in Maxi Rodriquez thread but here goes.....
I never said Kuyt deserves to start every game or that he does enough to warrant inclusion on every team sheet. What I did say was that he is an important player for us. Which is he. When you tally up Kuyt stats, performances & contributions and compare them to his competition within this club it would be so one sided it wouldn't even be a competition. Yossi has done great too and I really like what he brings us but who else should be starting RW for us? Doubt we have the money to go out and buy top drawer so i'd rather play Kuyt there than waste 5-8 million on a player who we'll probably sell on in 18 months.

Dirk Kuyt is the least of our worries if we're going to title contenders. How about sorting our left back position, or left wing for that matter, back up for Torres, replacement for Johnson while he's injured, our centre back pairings! All more important and worrying that the inclusion of Dirk in our team.
Our offensive wide areas have been a problem for us for years, Kuyt hasn't and won't resolve those problems.

Again it goes back to the Rebel debate, I blame Benitez for the fact that our options are so limited that our hopes have to rest on Dirk Kuyt, who disappoints game after game.

That said, I'd still play Yossi ahead of him on the right.

Oncy, you said Benitez is woeful in the transfer market but I dont think Alonso, Crouch, Sissoko, Agger, Reina, Benayoun, Torres, Kuyt, Arbeloa, Aurelio, Garcia, Mascherano, etc. were/are woeful signings nor were they woeful deals. As I said we have signed loads of players and you have to take the rough with the smooth, the bad players are shipped out and the losses are minimised as much as possible as opposed to what happened under previous managers where they saw out their contracts. That is good management and Benitez's record overall is NOT woeful considering his budget which he has made back every penny through sustained CL runs or getting us 2nd in the league which has led to things like record shirt sponsorships, hopefully you'll be able to admit it but somehow I doubt it

I'd have no objections to Yossi getting a go on the RW if Dirk is up top with Torres or being rested/rotated. None at all. Kuyt could do with a rest to be honest. Saying that I still think you are seriously downplaying the contribution Dirk has given us.

Not including assists he has 32 goals in 118 games in the league, 13 goals from 38 games in Europe and playing mostly as a right winger.

As I said no point discussing Dirk in this thread. Let's agree to disagree.

Rafa = Jesus

More bad than good would mean the team and the squad is worth less or the same than when he arrived in 04/05, which you know is not the case

so you're perpetuating a myth, which is not at all out of character is it?

What was the squad worth in 04/05 ?

What is worth now ?

How is it calculated ?

Why does it mean anything ? Should we not be trying to win trophies ?

I would like a superstar for the RW too. Who wouldn't? You said we "could" have someone better? Who? No one in our squad is better and we can't afford anyone new and exciting at the moment. Rafa has put his faith in Dirk, which has been very frutrating at times for all of us, but Dirk has delivered on many occasions for us. Lets not forgot that. That's all I have to say.
