Matip Out for Season
Joel Matip is likely to require an operation on a thigh injury, Liverpool have confirmed on their website today.

The centre-back sustained the issue during Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

He is now likely to miss the rest of the season.

Fack!! Not good news. It means Lovren next to VVD. Wonder if we could also see Klavan and VVD and move Virigil to the right.

Can, Gomez and now Matip. Not good at all. However to be fair to Klavan he was better than solid for a few games prior to being benched and in matches on the back foot could be a better choice than Lovren.

I'd be fine with Klavan vs. Everton.

Any injury to a first team player at this stage of the season is bad news. He might have had some poor games and defensive issues this season but he's miles better with the ball then Lovren, which is quite crucial to the way we play, and he doesnt give moronic interviews the day before each crucial game....

Cant stand Lovren and will now have to see him play most of the games that are left. Baaaaaah.

Probably why he's getting surgery

I wonder if my memories of my heroes are skewed though because I didnt see them every week.
Lucky if I saw Hansen play 3 or 4 times a season as a kid growing up in Belfast.

The only case you could make for Hansen looking better than he was was that some of the players he was up against were proper turd compared to the athletes in every team now, but he was by far the best defender in the league. So no, it's not a skewed opinion. The only issue you'd have switching Hansen's brain with Matip's is that it needs 20 pints of lager a day to run correctly.

That doesn't make sense FF. Why would we be on the back foot against Everton? From your analysis it would make more sense to have Klavan in the City game and Lovren in the Everton game.

He has always been unconvincing. That said, having less players to rotate in the last few games in between the champions league games might be an issue

Is that stat actually correct, though? Or does it equate being dropped/'rested' with being injured? I would very much doubt he actually has been injured every six games throughout the season.

Bad news this. We are short of players as it is. Mind you when we beat city big V was not in that game

Raglan had the same shitting bug as Winnie had, except he appears to have shat out about half his body weight. He ought to have remedied that by now, the great tart - just eat more!

Conor Masterson is in the squad - promising young CB, persuaded by Rodgers and Dalglish to sign for us, quite similar in build and play to Matip but more aggressive. But obviously not yet ready for such a big game.

The two paragraphs are not related. The second was just musing because Klopp is not going to start him vs. City in any case. Therefore with the game against Everton a few days later I'd be OK with Klavan giving one of the CBs a rest.

We all have to accept across Man City home and away, and Everton in between in the space of 7 days that Lovren is going to make at least one goal-conceding fuck up.
