[article=http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/liverpool-man-united-chasing-inter-milan-playmaker-mateo-kovacic-gazzetta-dello-sport/]Gazzetta dello Sport report today that Liverpool and Manchester United are eying Inter Milan playmaker Mateo Kovacic.

The pink Italian newspaper run this suggestion both online and at the top of their front page today, see below.

Just 20-years-old, Kovacic shows great vision in the middle of the park but has had an up and down season for Inter Milan.

On Saturday, Kovacic bagged two brilliant assists in Inter’s win over Lazio but the former Dinamo Zagreb midfielder has not always started for the Nerazzurri.

Both Liverpool and Manchester United are believed to have scouted Kovacic and been impressed with his ability on the ball and decision making to play the final pass.

However Inter president Erick Thohir is eager to build his side around Kovacic next season and it may take a humungous bid to secure his services.

Besides Liverpool and Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal are also linked with the young Croatian who potentially could be a star at the upcoming World Cup.[/article]

The next Coutinho? I've only seen Inter once or twice this year, and I cannot remember seeing him ... Is he worth a big bid to give us an extra midfield outlet?

He's a fantastic prospect and will become a great player. Shame Inter wont sell him.

I remember seeing him with Dinamo alongside Badelj. Badelj used to play the deep lying role, and Kovacic further forward, and they both looked like terrific prospects.

I read however that Inter have been trying to convert him into a regista.

Inter's President is only pulling this stunt to drive up the price. This lad was in and out of the team. Not an automatic starter.

Quality player and definitely we should be in for him if we can't get lallana at a decent price. Can play as a regista or further forward.

Thats more down to him being only 20 I think. He could be the future of that midfield. He had two wonderful assists in the last game vs Lazio.

Oh right - I'm useless with footy positions. For years I thought a full back was another name for a centre back.

If you want to know the fielding positions of cricketers though I'm your man.

What do you prefer one day internationals, 20/20 or test matches?

You are out of your minds if you would rather pin your hopes on some young inexperienced kid who blows (as you would expect) hot and cold to improve us next season ahead of Lallana.

Why would it have to be one or the other anyway?

it's a hypothetical question. there's no right or wrong. lallana on the one hand seems very good but potentially very expensive. this guy is younger and potentially even better, but unproven in england.

Some of you guys go from one extreme to the other.

I'm not sold on spending the earth on Lallana and I do rate him highly, but last Summer many were happy for us to spunk £20m-£30m on Willian/Soldado/Kono or whoever (because it was more fashionable), now you're asking (hypothetically) if should we buy a young cheap option instead?

If Lallana were Spanish, the stance would be completely different, we'd be amateurs again or whatever term was leveled at us constantly last Summer for not going beyond our valuation of players who've largely failed to pull up trees this season.

I'm not trying to be an arse, but why ask? You wouldn't have asked if we should buy Alberto or Kono last Summer. The sheer idea of such a conundrum would have been put away with the rest of the ammunition that's lay there waiting for when Spurs (or whoever) spend bigger than we do on a player.

I've wanted us to sign Kono for 2 years now and he'd be a lot cheaper than Lallana.
Also if Lallana was Spanish he wouldnt cost £25 million.

Kovacic is a highly rated young player who's playing for one of the top teams in Europe. I really think he has a great future ahead of him.

Ideally we'd sign all three of them. But if I can only pick two and Lallana's price tag is £25 million, I'd go for the two foreign players.

I'm not trying to be an arse, but why ask? Y.

mate, you are sounding like a broken record bringing up last summer all the time. i had views, some were right some were wrong. I don't have agendas unlikes some on here who for a long time used every opportunity to have a go at magic.

it's a football forum, i'm interested to know how good our potential targets are, someone on here may have seen both play and come out with a good view.

finally, the why not? last time I checked the thought police were too preoccupied with north korea to bother with us.

I generally agree to be honest, but perhaps a strong english dressing room will make a great atmosphere and therefore success, I'm basing that on completely fuck all and disregarding the lack of english players in the current top 4 so id say its a fair point....

I always fail on this hypothetical question stuff, dont get it, how are you supposed to tell?, you see a question there and answer it.

Is that in reply to me? If so it's best not to clog up threads with James Bond preferences and random cricket theory. I was just being cheeky but I know the mods know that anyway. I'll stop for sure

So this Kovacic is supposed to be mint right. Tell me about him @Spaghetti Legs - My non LFC footy knowledge is woeful I'm afraid.
