Defour and Banega would be ace. That would give us great CM depth.

*Rubs his hands in glee at the prospect!*

Bringing in Defour and Banega wouldn't be a bad idea. Maybe £30 million max?
[/quote]

30M !!! Reports are saying €12M for Defour and I'm sure last week I saw £7.5M for Banega.

Benega will not be made available for that cheap. He's just had a very good season for Valencia, and I think rumours of a cheap release clause are absolute nonsense.

I have to say the idea of buying Banega and Defour excites me. Even though they're small and I know very little about them except that Defour has Fergie as a pen pal and Banega wanks off a lot.

Couldn't we offer Valencia Lucas in a straight swap?

Two bargains right there. Those two, a left back and a full season from Torres and we'll all be smiling!!

I read a Lucas interview today (Guardian?) where he said he thought he had what it takes to fill Mascherano's position. He's not reall mobile enough or a good enough tackler, I'd have thought, but it does look like it's being considered.

*feels miserable*

Flamini is looking the business for Milan against the Gooners in the Emirites Cup. He's playing LM but picking out some nice passes and making some good runs through the middle!

Sorry if this has been posted already, but I just read the story on liverpool daily post, and the rumours of Danny Cipraini making the move from Rugby to Football are clearly true, the picture they have is absolutely identical

Always liked him .... I think he would be ace in the centre for us.

According to another site, Mascherano will join Inter in the middle of next week for 27 mill euros.

£22.5m sounds a little on the low side but I suppose he only has two years left on his contract.

The sooner it is done the better so we can move on and get in his replacement(s)

It's a lot on the low side unless there's someone decent, i.e.NOT Muntari, coming with it. 27 mill.English pounds would be just about acceptable.

27M euros is shit. We bought him for around £18M, so should be getting a fair bit more for him. Even £27M feels low.

With Moratti only offering £20M for Mascherano, at least we nogotiated up. Thank fuck for that. We're losing a great player but I'm glad that it's dusted. Now we can move on.

Roy time to bring in the calvary. Defour to follow Aurelio?

I read that he'd like to keep the captaincy - so we have a ready-made replacement for Masher and Stevie G. We're laughing.

According to some Belgian story Defour would prefer us over the Mancs.

Sign.him.now. Please.

Flamini is a quality player but I never really saw how he fitted in for Milan. At the time I thought it was a poor move both for him and Arsenal.

Ha! The plot thickens, according to Sky Sports rumour page he has been spotted at John Lennon Airport, and according to fans that watched the Standard match on friday, he walked around the pitch after the game with a Standard scarf and waved to the fans.

It's either up there in the Ribery/Zidane house hunting bracket or something is happening. Make of it what you will.

I for one would be made up with this lad.

I would use Mascherano money to buy two good CM, with one of them being very accomplished as a DM.

Something like

Kacar/Hamsik
Kacar/Defour
Veloso/Hamsik
Veloso/Defour

My reasoning is that all indications point towards us having a Season of rebuilding, and in such an even i would hate to have a Soft Central Midfield and A big gaping hole at Left Back. Sadly Lucas and Aurelio as first teamers means we are looking at exactly that. Lucas - because of the lack of talent, and Aurelio because of lack of consistency and the ability to keep himself fit.

To me, getting an LM and a backup Striker comes after that. I get, why everybody wants to sign a striker first. The cliche "goals win games" comes to mind. But in real life, teams that stocked up on Strikers without reinforcing other parts of the team have always done poorly. Newcastle, Manchester City, Real Madrid in the last few years. I can see why fans want to see attacking players signed, but if that comes at the expense of the balance of the team, then i would much rather not sign a striker.

I think we can get by till January with Torres, Jovanovic, Babel, Kuyt and N'gog. If we get a striker, then one has to leave. We can't just buy 5 strikers and keep when the total Squad size is limited to 25.

I'm no fan of his, but to be fair to him I doubt the truth of that. The same quote appeared in various papers, both initially and later on, without the "hope to keep the job" bit. Someone's done a little "creative editing" of what he said, would be my guess.

I think so JJ.

I read the article somewhere yesterday (meant to post it but forgot) and it read more along the lines of staying in the team rather than keeping the captaincy.

Even if the comments were about the captaincy, you've got to admire his ambition and sheer mental toughness. He's a young lad who has taken a lot of stick over the last season or two and never let it get him down.

He's a likeable lad.

That's fair comment, and on the playing side I wouldn't necessarily object to keeping him as a squaddie (though if he IS going to stick around I'd prefer to see him played further forward). If he's to be a regular member of the first team, though, I'd be concerned. He should certainly be let go if a respectable offer comes in IMO.

It's all very well to be hardline armchair negotiators, but we have to get this deal done. The longer it goes on, the stronger Inter's bargaining position becomes - and the less time we have to replace him. In effect, it really makes no difference how much we get for him: what matters is how the money is used afterwards. If we got Defour for £9m (when he was linked at twice that price last summer) and sold Mascher for £22m, then that's clearly a better deal than selling Xabi for £30m and buying Aquilani for £18m.

I agree Bunny but I think Mash is one of the very few players out there that, should this deal not go through and he had to stay until Jan, he would be professional and would produce top class performances in every game he played. In all probabibility a deal will be struck as it is what all parties want. But if It didn't, we'd still have a top player here who would perform.
