Mane's form, again

Perhaps Klopp is saying this to protect Mane and deflect blame for the missed penalty to himself. But judging from their interactions after the final whistle, there was something Klopp wanted to tell him and Mane was smiling and laughing when they spoke.

Said in the match thread, it was a mistake to send Mane to take the fifth. Mendy's familiarity with him would have played a huge role psychologically.

I think Klopp mentioned it was a reverse psychology thing, just as Mendy knows Mane, Mane also knows Mendy.

Doesn't quite matter now anyway, it's destined.

Should we be concerned, since we're still scoring and winning? I think it's a bit of a statistical anomaly, as he was unlucky not to score in several situations recently and had two "unofficial" assists vs Newcastle – but you can only go without scoring for so long before it messes with your head. Feed the Mane!

We are still doing well. we will get all 4.

His general play hasn't been poor - Chelsea had a job containing him first half on Saturday. Goals and assists are obv.important but stats do not tell the whole story.

Wait…. I thought we were all flogging him off to bring in Darwin?

Mane Interview with the Beeb

Sadio Mane says he will give a "special" answer over his Liverpool future after Saturday's Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich have both been linked with Mane, 30, who enters the final year of his contract in June.

However, Liverpool are hopeful of retaining the Senegal forward who has already won the Africa Cup of Nations, Carabao Cup and FA Cup this term.

"I think the answer I can give you now is I feel very good," said Mane.

"I am fully focused on Saturday's game, that is the answer I must give before the final. But come back to me on Saturday and I will give you the best answer you want to hear, for sure. It's special. I will give you all you want to hear then.

"I love what I am doing and I sacrifice myself all the time. I am working hard every single day on the pitch and in the gym and I get better and better, that's the most important. I am trying my best to help the team."

Alongside fellow forwards Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, who turn 30 and 31 in June and October respectively, Mane has been integral to Liverpool's success in recent years.

The trio helped the club win the Champions League in 2019 and then end a 30-year wait for a top-flight title in the following season.

However, all three can leave for free next summer, with Mane preferring not be drawn on his future when asked what would happen if Real, who can start negotiating from January 2023 as an overseas club, were to approach him.

"Good question, but what I want to say now is I am fully focused on the Champions League and winning it, which is far more important for me and the Liverpool fans," he said.

"I will do everything absolutely possible to win the game for Liverpool.

"I think we all forgot about what happened in 2018. For sure Real Madrid were the better team then and deserved to win the game, but it is going to be a different game."

Ballon d'Or candidate?

An influential performance in the final would likely elevate Mane's chances of winning the Ballon d'Or, given he was also central to Senegal's success in February.

He is hoping to become only the second African after George Weah in 1995 to win the award, although Salah will also provide competition.

"It's true. If you guys say it, what can I say myself? Which is sad," added Mane on the lack of African winners.

"This cup, the Africa Cup of Nations is one of the biggest for myself, it is the biggest trophy I have won in my life, and for an African player not to have won the Ballon d'Or since George Weah it is sad for sure.

"Winning the Champions League is special. I have a chance to play it again and we will do everything we can to win it and then we will see what happens, with the Ballon d'Or."

Bild all over it saying Bayern want to force us into a deal at €30m

Pointing to the Thiago deal they did with us under similar circumstances.

Mane played 57 times this season. How many games for Thiago?

I don’t know how much is reasonable but it’s way more than £30m

I think he's gone and he's agreed terms with Bayern, that's why they are confident of getting him cheap because he will make it known that's where he's going.

If Salah is intent on running down his contract t there is very little chance of us letting Mané do the same.

Bayern can fuck off. And as for pointing at the Thiago transfer. Mane is an attacking player with more value. The budding starts at a minimum of £50m and that's pounds not Euros

These forwards can shut the fuck up with their cryptic answers about their contracts just before the most important game of our season. Arrogant twats.

I think it's fine. They're constantly being asked about this stuff, and they always give cryptic answers. It's only getting more focus because of the final.

Reactions: dee
don't want him to leave.
he's found a role where he's 'back'.
but if he is going to push to leave, then we should ensure bayern either give us a proper transfer fee or Musalia ;-)

Mane has been quality, I know he had a dip in form, but his record speaks for itself, and he's always a threat directly or indirectly. I know we have a special talent in Salah, but Mane's quality has been somewhat overshadowed over the years when he should really have reaped all of the awards and plaudits his talent deserves. Brilliant player and a top, humble man.

Indeed ... humble for sure, and I cannot see anyone in world football who could do what he does for us. That central position of the 3, call it what you want but he has made it his own. No opposition team knows how to deal with him, the guy is like a stealth fighter jet, like he goes deep when he has to, to the right, to the left and then bang mother fucker he going straight at them. Love that combo of Diaz, Mane, Salah. Just imagine if we had the likes of SG playing in midfield with those three up front !!!
