Man City - Pre match thread

We'll win 3-2

I personally don't think we'll win it.

City look nearly irresistible at the moment and I don't think we're quite ready to take them.

That said I'll be very happy with a point. I don't want a hammering - I think as long as we're competitive and push them all the way then we'll make a massive statement. Neither united or Arsenal have been able to live with them - we compete to the 90th minute and it'll make a big statement. To the public but, more importantly, to the team who will believe that anything is possible and certainly top 4.

Unusual pick for a big game. Looking at the 16 games he's refereed he's never been given a game where we play a top 4 team.
Worst game? Arguably the 3-1 loss to Fulham when Carra and Degen got sent off.

Best game? 4-0 win against Burnley in 2009. No yellow or red cards issued.

Latest game? Villa - Liverpool 1-2

I'm excited but nervous.

I hope we don't bottle it like we did against Arsenal. It's a massive test.

This is my chain of thought too, give them a tough time, make it a close game, that'll be a good day for us, get a draw its a great result, get a win, its dreamland. However I fully suspect Dzeko to score one or two and for us to lose 2-0, and Suarez will have a frustrated day.

It's a cliche but whoever scores the 1st goal will have a major advantage. In the league. only Man Utd, Everton and Arsenal has scored at Etihad Stadium Man Utd scored when they were 4-0 down. Everton were the only side to take there but they lost it barely a minute later. Arsenal equalized to make it 1-1 but Man City were back in the lead before HT 8 minutes later.

If we can take the lead and they hold on to it for a considerable period of them, we might yet do a 'miracle' by catching them on the break.

10 of their 1st goals (18) were scored in the 1st 20 minutes whereas we score majority (13) of our 1st goals (17) in the 1st half an hour.

Not very optimistic, are you Ossi? Here's hoping we continue our latest run of form and get a result there.

I see it more like this: Toure is one of the best footballer in the EPL. Lucas and Allen isn't.

But (like someone said earlier): Christmas isn't important, our games are what I'm looking forward to.

I think that this is the game where Coutinho shows us all that he is one of the best there is.
Henderson will be immense
Suarez will dominate

Liverpool hand City a defeat. We are better on form than they are.

Gentlemen! What is your profession!

I initially had us down for a 2-0 defeat. Now I've amended that to 2-1 (I fail to see how they are going to stop Suarez scoring) but there is a strong case for a draw or better with Aguero missing, a huge miss for them. I'm teetering on changing my forecast again !

My biggest worry in this match is set pieces.

They're really fucking good at them and we're really fucking shite at defending them.

Yep, we give lots of silly freekicks away on the edge of the area, Yaya Toure will be looking forward to this.

This Lucas dominating Toure story is similar to the Anderson dominating Gerrard years ago.

Based on one highlight reel tackle.

Nah, I remember the game. At home to City and he dominated him.
But it happened once and wont happen tomorrow.

I think it will be a close but open game. We'll concede, I'm sure we can put at least one past them.

Do we think we'll keep the same formation or go 3 at the back?

Maybe BR did that at the end of Cardiff game thinking Flanno might be out for next game.

The key to this is keeping the same front 6 IMO who will harry their midfield.

clearly the key to win this game for city is their confidence when they play at home. If we give them toe to toe everywhere on the pitch and give them a feeling 'omg for the first time we are facing a different side today at Etihad in this season'...that is when we will start toying with their confidence, make them nervous, they wont be able to play their natural game, that frustration starts creeping in and there we are making some statement to the rest of the league by that kind of fearless performance

Lucas dominated him last year at Anfield before his injury. I can only hope that happens too.
Yes. Many look at the respective sizes od teh two and naturally assume Allen or Lucas will come second best. Not from recent history, he doesn't.

My main problem is at the back-- when our centre-halves are pressed they do daft things. Both Sakho and Skrtel, especially him, have made ridiculous decisions when put under pressure. City has players such as Silva, Nasir and Negredo who will do exactly that.
