Lucas transfer was done and dusted

You should just marry him and get it over with.

He has been in great form recently and maybe we dont have to buy a quality midfielder until the summer. But lets not kidd ourselves about how fucking good he is.
As a back up: yes. Starting in the future for a team with ambitions to be a top team: no.

I said it before and I'll say it again. He will continue to play in Klopp's teams. Evident yesterday when we needed someone calm and intelligent to come and steady things. We looked far more relaxed and balanced when he came on.

Klopp clearly likes intelligent footballers and in Lucas he has one.

Although it's hard to get these words out I felt strangely relieved when he came on. I thought we were beginning to lose the midfield battle as the young lads were tiring. After his introduction we controlled it.

Wonderman is wonderous.

How many managers making him integral will it take for people to accept hes an important player.
He's a very important player, & his composure & reading of the game is evidence of how little we have of those very important qualities in the squad.

However, at his age, I think we have to get a better & more consistent player who can play week in week out without suffering.

Until January at the very earliest that's not gonna happen though, & he's doing a damn fine job.

Although, Rossiter, Can, and Will are all good shouts to replace Wonderman as they get older and better.

At his age? He's 28. That's the peak for a defensive midfielder; has all the experience and know-how, stature and presence is there, and still all the athletic prowess intact.

Like Souness, for example.

I thought he was about 31 or older tbh.

He always seems to play better when he's been rested or the plays less than a full match, plus he seems to tire at the end of matches (which is when he usually picks up his almost compulsory yellow).

He has been in good for of late but we've seen this before. He needs to continue in this vein and then actually build on it. The moment yesterday where he stepped up for an interception well in their half and had a Crack on goal - I want to see more of that. It's fine to say he's done a good job of being tidy in front of the defense - and we need him to do that - but we need a certain degree of dynamism from that position as well.

Five games in which we've won one.

Well done Lucas. We're at your level now

Sorry 6 games as he was outstanding against Villa too in a game we won.

In any case not scoring enough as a team is hardly something you can blame our DM for.

We have looked more solid, more in control and he has had a lot to do with it.

Like I said earlier, I'm not his biggest fan at all, but he's been playing very well lately and if the other 10 players had matched his level it would 6/6 wins.

Not acknowledging how good he's been in the last half a dozen games just highlights some people will never change their opinion.

I think we'll more shooting from Lucas under Klopp.

Yeah, it's clearly Lucas's fault that Origi and Coutinho can't hit a barn door at the moment. How about giving him some credit for us conceding only 1 goal in 315 minutes he was on the pitch in Klopp's first 4 games?

His shooting will have to improve about 675% for that to be even a possibility. Apart from once or twice in his early days at LFC, when there were still occasional traces of the box-to-box player we were all told he was, he's shown zero sign of having that in his locker. He does bring value to the squad at the moment, but strictly as a DM. Whether that'll be enough for Klopp over the longer term, we'll have to see.

This is a great example of not being able to see the wood from the trees.

If you want to take a six game sample (in which you're massively overstating your case) as evidence of his worth, that's your business.

We've all done this enough times to know how it ends. (with us in midtable)

Yeah if it wasn't for those other players we'd have scored loads of goals.

It's got nothing to do with his inability to play a decent forward pass. I mean he was racking up assists when we had Suarez and Sturridge up front, wasn't he?

When Lucas is a regular first team player in our team, we finish about 7th

This. I was about to post this yesterday.
Lucas is integral and important to a team aspiring to finish 6th-7th. We need better.

He's doing a good job now and hopefully he'll do that for the rest of the season. But after that, squad player. Nothing more.

No it isn't.
Sure it is, let's look at some of the players Gerrard has played with.

Hamann - won the league in Germany, played with Gerrard. No league title.

Berger - Won the Bundesliga with Dortmund, same

Mcallister - Leeds, same.

Babbel, Ziege, Glenjo, Sturridge......

Can't prove anything without a control method.
So who won the league after leaving Gerrard?

Owen, Suarez, Alonso, Mascherano....

Gerrard would have won the league if he'd joined Chelsea or Madrid, or any other of the top clubs who wanted to buy him.
But he stayed because he loved Liverpool. The others left because they wanted to win trophies and a massive club wanted to buy them.

Lucas stays because only Stoke and some Turkish club have ever been interested in buying him, because he's not very good.

He will end his career without a title because he's never played for a team good enough to win one, largely because his presence means the team isn't good enough to win one, and no team good enough to win one will ever buy him.

That's mental logic, right there.

Lucas won the league in Brazil. Twice.
