Lucas transfer was done and dusted

Well if its true that we're close to signing Ruben Neves then Lucas wont be playing much.

Who knows he might be transformed.

For the record he was good in the derby and outstanding against Villa. His best ever game in red IMHO so I think there at least a half a dozen players in a worst spot than him

That's laying it on a bit thick - "best ever game"? More like "significantly better that the shit hes served up recently, and reminded us what a cornerstone he was in our team for a time".

Lucas deserves our respect - was excited when we signed him, then thoroughly non-plussed for about 2 years, and then he really came into his own and was a really important player for us. He never really came back from his knee injury (was it cruciate ligaments at Stamford Bridge??) and I would suspect that his lack of mobility and dynamism is a major major drawback to him being a long term solution in one of Klopps teams.

Hope he gets a final pay day in Italy or Turkey as hes proven to be a good red over the years, but will be consigned to the growing pile of "decent but probably didn't fulfill expectations"

It wouldn't be a Lucas thread without a Tim Vickery reminder from 2007 of what we expected we signed:

"These moves are always a gamble, but I think this is a good one. He's an exciting player of a type that Brazilian football hasn't produced too many of recently. Of late their central midfielders have tended to be 'holders' who sit and allow the full-backs to push forward. Lucas is different. He's a big, blonde figure whose power and physical strength comes with attacking ability. He can pass well and loves to rumble forward. He gets on the scoresheet both with blistering shots from range and from bursting beyond the strikers. You can certainly imagine him playing alongside Javier Mascherano, for example. I don't have the same fears for him as I did with Paletta. He's had two full seasons behind him - one helping Gremio win promotion from the second division, and then last year's success when he was chosen as the player of the championship. In a perfect world you might want him to stay another year before moving on, but (a) Gremio need to sell to balance the books and (b) with Liverpool's strength in depth in central midfield it looks as if his first campaign will be a bedding in season."

Charlie Adam - Xabi Alonso
Cheyrou - Zidane
Carroll - Drogba
Allen - Xavi

I've seen some strange comparisons through the years.

Lucas will never leave Liverpool. He's played with and seen off Alonso, Gerrard, Mascherano, Adam, Shelvey and Meireles. He's outlasted Dalglish, Hodgson, Rogers and Benitez. He's played under multiple owners. He has been rumoured to be leaving, or available to loan or buy in almost every transfer window.

But he never does. He waits. He waits for players to leave or get injured. For mangers, systems and tactics to shift and change.

He will be a Liverpool player when he's 40 ("he never had any pace to lose!")

Soon, the acceleration in nano-technology and cell regeneration will prolong human lives almost indefinitely. Footballers will now retire when they're 60, 70 or 80.

Lucas will never leave.

In 2080, Lucas will be the longest serving Captain in Liverpool's history.. Cloning is now commonplace. Lucas plays in every position for Liverpool. Under himself as manager. Most of the fans are Lucas. They gather in the Lucas Kop to cheer on their team.

Lucas will never leave Liverpool.

You know, as much as I've criticised him, as far as a dressing room figure goes with a perfect attitude, I wouldn't be against him staying for good. He's not good enough every week, he's shown that by having mammoth games, only to then follow up with a drab performance against a minnow. He's symptomatic of everything that's wrong with us in that sense, but he is useful from time to time and he's a great pro.

Lucas is like that mate that you're way too cool to hang with but never quite managed to grow out of because he tends to be the most reliable backup when everyone else is doing shit.

Anytime we dont lose and he plays....someone on here comes and says how boss he was.

It wouldnt be SCM without that happening.

He was his average self yesterday....if thats the definition of boss, then may be i want a different kind of boss for Liverpool...

Dry your eyes. He played very very well. Won his tackles, always showed for the ball and used it cleverly and looked as fit and sharp as I've seen him in a long time.

I've always been on the fence about Lucas myself, but I still think he's a valuable squad member. If he can play like he did yesterday on a more regular basis we'll be better off. Some won't be too happy with that though as it might mean they can't slag him at every opportunity...just like they've done in his 8 years or so with us. (Not constructive criticism either)

Another DM is still a priority IMO. Lucas is not merely the best DM we have, he's pretty much the only one. On his day (e.g.in Saturday's game) he does OK, but I don't see us winning the title until we improve in a number of areas and DM, albeit not the top priority, is one of them.

Ughh, look at the bromance between Lucas and Klopp. He'll be here for a long time, lads. What a suck up!

I ain't going nowhere.

He's on fire at the moment. Great cameo today.
Fast becoming one our most valuable players, mostly due to our lack of options but hey...

Fast becoming one our most valuable players, after eight years. Rewind a few months and his sound midfield protection saw us shipping goals.

What flavour is it this month?

Much of Lucas's new vibrancy may come from the fact that he feels the manager is giving him some attention, but importantly is he not now one of the elder members of our team ? - if he is it could be that he feels he does not have to answer to any of these kids, and in many ways he could be free from the shadows now, and after all this time express himself. Just a thought - he came from Brazil, and had to contend with the likes of Macha, Gerrard, Carragher, Alonso - now he may feel he can write his own story here at LFC - finally !!!!
