Lucas - Silly fouls thread

If Rodgers is bringing back part time helpers like Fowler and McManaman, he'd be wise to bring in Molby or Whelan or Hamman to work the odd session with Lucas. Just a couple of sessions with one of them would surely help him.

Yup. In no time he will be spraying great passes all over the pitch, leading the team, and winning free kicks with the crumple.

Or he may end up eating pies and smoking.
Either way, I'd love to have any of those guys back with the club.

Hamman is involved with the club isn't he? I saw him earlier this year doing a LFC coaching workshop with kids in SA.

Would love Hamann to return and and give the likes of Coady, Lussey, Baio, Roddan and Rossiter pointers.

Not so good this season. Look, he's a good player who is clearly getting back to his best, but he's suspended after six games, five yellows in six matches, and no charts and career comparisons are going to alter that fact. He needs to improve this part of his game.

Obviously.

And a lot of those names on that list would have massively better stats than Lucas when it comes to the other part of the game, that part that is going on in the opponents half.

Scoring, assisting, adding up the numbers etc. I know some would argue that it doesn't matter as he is only there to defend the castle and pass the ball to the nearest Gerrard at first sight. I just don't agree about that and that part of his game is very limiting for us as a team imo.

Few would doubt that he is doing a decent job in the defensive part of the game I just don't think it's enough especially as many before him has proved that you don't have to be completely invisible going forward just because you are good at breaking up play, tackling etc.

I've never been a fan on Lucas and probably never will but it's a bit unfair to single him out as our problem.

The problem for me is that our both starting CM's are of the quality I'd expect from a 3rd choice. We need to add at least one CM(not a DM or AM, but a CM) in the January window and if we could hang on and stay in touch with the top 4 until then we'd have a decent chance of playing in CL next season.

Depends a bit on what qualities that CM has, if we bring in another Henderson/Allen type then its a waste imho.
We need someone who can play dm/cm but has the defensive qualities to replace and/or add competition to Lucas.

He came here as an attack-minded player, didn't he? I think so. So it's not as hard to improve that side of his game than it is with a player who has always been defensively-minded. On the rare times that Lucas has gone forward and headed towards goal I've quite liked what I've seen. He's got a good shot on him, too.

Agreed.

The Brazil squad:

Goalkeepers: Jefferson, Diego Cavalieri, Victor
Defense: David Luiz, Dante, Dedé, Henrique, Daniel Alves, Maicon, Marcelo, Maxwell
Midfielders: Paulinho, Hernanes, Luiz Gustavo, Ramires, Lucas Leiva, Oscar and Lucas
Forwards: Hulk, Neymar, Bernard, Jo and Alexandre Pato.

Hmmm....looks like a bunch of reserves to me. Explains why Lucas was picked.

Rodgers on Lucas pre match conference:

(Q) Whoever you bring into midfield has got to do some sort of job there, does that change the way you have to tinker in midfield because he (Lucas) offers you so much solidity in that position?

(BR) It's just making the players that are in there aware that there's a responsibility tactically.
As I've said we've got players to come back like Joe Allen, who can play in that role but I think whoever plays in there understands the dynamics of what’s required -- that they may have to curtail their game a little bit. If you go in and move freely in that space, it just leaves you too open.
------

So Lucas isn't actually allowed to do much attacking. Direct orders from the gaffer it seems.

...Because he sucks at it

I'm sure BR tells his attackers to not drop too deep, but that doesn't mean that they can't contribute by pressing.

You mad bro?

Yes, it's Rodgers who's holding back his game. Considering the plethora of stats brought up in his favour, I'm surprised you haven't dragged up the stats for him under managers, just to compound this point. Oh.

I'm sorry let's just disregard what Brendan just said.

South Korea - Brazil 3-2

Lucas came on in the 2nd half when Brazil was up 2-0. First thing he did was get yellow carded for a silly foul. Later on he he scored an own goal and conceded a penalty. South Korea managed to score three goals while he was on the pitch.

When you lie, can you at least put it in italics or a different font or something? You got me real worried for 5 seconds there.
