Was Guthrie really that much worse than Lucas? He's even scored a goal for the Barcodes this season.

Lucas has bags more class

Bar his last two games, he's been poor all season. How much better than Guthrie does that make him. Does it justify the net transfer cost? Please explain how he has 'bags more class'.

I said that last season, and was gutted that we sold Guthrie as he's English too.

But Lucas has been started to show that potential that people have raved on about of late. I was dead against Lucas, like most others, a few months ago, but like I said on another thread since the PSV game he's been showing some promising signs, I'm starting to believe he is Brazilian after all.

he hasn't played much this season so he hasn't had the opportunity to get going but if you look at his 15 league games including last season you'll see he has 6 assists in 15 games and has been generally ok. Guthrie is no where near him and is either the same age or older? i dont know, anyway, today showed up that theory

and yeah it does justify the cost, he's worth nearly double what we paid for him

Good grief.

Lucas hasn't suddenly become a world beater, the good news is that he's not totally useless like a lot of us thought he was.

He could still go either way from here.

of course he is, there's not many other midfielders that can be bought with his experience and potential.

Real Madrid just bought Diarra for £20m. Lucas is worth a good amount

He's played two excellent games for us and suddenly he's a 12 million pound player?

[/quote]

He's had more than 2 good games. Rebel is going a little over the top, but Lucas has shown he has a lot to his game, he just needs to put it all together consistently. He's a young lad, so he'll be a bit up and down, but there is a core quality there, that for some reason many don't want to see.

it's not over the top. Lucas is a young midfield player who is playing for the league challengers and if we ever decided to sell him, he is markatable all over europe where the Euro is strong, name me a better prospect.

fucking Fellani went for £15m from the belgium league !

I said excellent games Drizz, not good. But let's not split hairs. I hope the lad comes good and continues with the form he's shown of late.

Who would pay in excess of £12M for him rebel?

Bearing in mind that Sissoko only went for 9M and we struggled to get a team to pay more than 14M for Alonso.

any number of teams if he was for sale. like I said, Fellani from Belgium went for £15m and there are many overpriced players touted around in Portugal and other leagues who aren't playing at a higher level than Lucas

I asked you to name some of them, not give me an airy fairy explanation (that you know isn't going to wash with me).

We all know that up'n'coming players coming from smaller, selling teams tend to attract a higher price than the unwanted from bigger clubs. As I said in my previous post, we only got 9M for Sissoko who had a better reputation at the time and couldn't attract more than 14M for Alonso, an established star.

So again, who would bid more than 12M for Lucas?

On second thoughts you might be right, IF he can stay consistently at this level.

i'm just giving you an assessment of his worth, we're not selling anyway. how much is Gerrard worth? £50m+ right? Alonso i'd say is worth £20m+, we never sold because no one paid it so fuck them. their loss.

Rebs, I've got a wonderful hard tackling CM for sale.....he's dubbed "the new Viera".........his name is Salif and I'll give him to you for a bargain Christmas clearout of 15m....

Can you send me your contact info?

Juve got a great deal for Sissoko, he has improved them a lot from coming up to now 2nd in Serie A and CL group toppers. he's been excellent value

Yes.

Lucas had the best game I've seen him play in a red shirt today.

All credit to him. That's what he's been bought to do and he didn't disappoint this afternoon.

If he can back that up with some more decent performances, then happy days, but his critics will always point to the number of shirked tackles and misplaced passes, that he has undeniably been guilty of, to shoot him down. In his defence, he is young, only 21 (the only one of Rebels points I agreed with), and he has been operating from a more defensive midfield role than perhaps he is used to. Whatever the final judgement on his Anfield career turns out to be, he has done his cause no harm at all today and I sense that *perhaps* the tide may be turning for the lad..

yes. in 12 months or less if he's getting the same amount of football I expect to see him scoring at the highest level

IMO In two years Xabi won't be able to get in the team ahead of him.
