Look at Aldo. He was one of the best strikers in world football, he'd had a couple of seasons where he hadn't put a foot wrong, would have done anything to play every minute he could for us - and... the door's the wooden thing in the wall, fuck off.
 
Because I think ten years of brilliant service deseves mention in a loyalty thread.
 
There's a loyalty index that needs to be defined. You don't get loyalty points for winning the league every other year and earning shitloads. You get loyalty points for being a Steve Bull. On the other hand when I think of him I can't help thinking he was probably one of these shithouses that still sleeps with his baby blanket and gets his mum to do his washing.

What I'm saying is, it's hard to win this battle.

That's not written by someone from RAWK. I remember reading it on Koptalk 5-6 years back. I think it was written just after Istanbul when reports of his flirtation with Chelsea first came out.

Loyalty and contentment are to different things IMO.

Are you loyal to your employer or do you strive for better things and challenge yourself?

Was LeTissier content at playing in Southampton and being the centre of attention or was it that he was loyal?

And how loyal is the club towards its players?

McAteer, David Thompson, Aldridge. None of them wanted to leave.
What I'm trying to say is that loyalty works one way not both ways.
 
You can be loyal to your employer AND strive for better things while still working for them. I doubt Carra or Stevie would agree that the two are necessarily separate. My bet is that in most cases they're two sides of the same coin.

That was my shout. Either blind loyalty or bind stupidity, you decide, Didn't the Scum want him (as well as David Hirst) and they both decided to stay, and arguably never hit the heights again.
 
We were linked with Hirst as well at one point, though never with Bully to my recollection.

I don't think their decisions, or Le Tiss's for that matter, were stupid. It's for each man to decide what his priorities are. If a player wants to seek what he thinks are greater challenges that's fine, but I have equal respect for one who decides he's happy with the balance of his life where he is.
 
Aldridge is a good one to discuss. Loves the club as much of any of us and was pushed out the door with tears in his eyes.
