What do we make of him now then?

A few months ago I couldn't have cared less about him, but he's been pretty faultless for the last several games. He does have the odd moment where he switches off, which concerns me. Like today, there was a point where he was running towards goal with his back to the play, so the Chelsea player just ran straight at him, it was nearly too late when he turned and realised. By and large though he's looking alot sharper and he's performing well alongside Skrtel, his distribution is pretty good too. I think him and Sakho were both written off prematurely, they both look like they have something to offer.

Does he have a future with us?

He could have if he continues to improve. Last 5-6 games have been very good.
To early to write him off and he'll definetly be here next season.

Dont think we need a new CB this summer if Skrtel signs a new contract.

I would keep him for another year. We are not going to recoup close to what we paid this year so selling him now makes very little sense.

He's shown he can be a very good defender in the right set up so for now we need to keep the faith.

The majority of the money and time this summer has to be spent on getting the strike force up to scratch. Anything else is just a distraction. .

He's took a fucking age to get going, but now looks like he's worthy of a spot in the defence. But, I don't like this back 3, and there's him, Can, Skrtel, Sakho next season. Maybe move Can to DM, and let the other 3 battle it out. On form I'd like Sakho and Lovren at the back, never been a huge fan of Skrtel although he's far from shit.

His apparent improvement has got nothing to do with his abilities or lack of, it's because Skrtle is back!

Normally I would say he does not have a future with us, but we lack a decent striker. I would rather we used our resources to buy one exceptional striker instead of buying a replacement for lovren and a mediocre striker.

The pressure wasn't off today. We were playing the champions where a win would have kept us in the CL race, and he played well. Also the pressure wasn't off in the last three or four matches in which he played well.

If anything, what those games proved is that Lovren is the least of our worries.

What are you smoking? There was zero f*cks given by Chelsea today and there was zero pressure.

No league game has mattered since Arsenal. Rodgers has known it, the players have known it and most fans have known it.

Even if we got bummed 3-0 it wouldn't have changed a thing but it was never going to happen with Chelsea already champions.

We have a lot of worries but our defence is definitely one of them. We still leak rubbish goals.

Lovren is our most expensive defender ever and isn't even close to being first choice.

What the fuck are you on about, no game has mattered since Arsenal? Did you completely miss the five points dropped against West Brom and Hull where we conceeded one goal, whilst scoring the sum total of fuck all.

Once we got beat back to back our chances of 4th went up in smoke imo and the way the team has played it looked pretty obvious that was the players opinion too.

The way some people are carrying on we've been playing pre-season friendlies in the last few weeks. In similar fashion to Mingolet, he's managed to reclaim some form and dispel the notion that he's completely hapless. Fair play. I don't know about being him being a 20M defender but on current form we can make use of him.

We're not like City or Madrid that can sign a 20M defender, go "meh" and discard them. If Wolfsburg or some other club flush with cash come along and decide to give us an opportunity to recover our (silly) investment then that's a completely different matter and I'd probably sell.

If John Terry and Gary Cahill had played with Mignolet behind them and any 2 of Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson, Allen in front of them they'd have looked dodgy this season. Let's sort out our CM and see if we can find a goalie who can command his box and then we can judge our CB's.

He has been playing decently the last few matches but he annoyed me on Sunday because he didn't look gutted with the result. Looked a lot to me like he had a little grin on his face because he did alright and it's nearly summer holidays.

Since the back to back losses utd lost three games on the trot. We were 5 points behind utd after they beat us. Are you being deliberately dim?

Unless we reboot the defensive coaches in the summer, I cannot see much changing... I am not convinced with Rodgers defensive coaching methods..

He has looked steady though over the last few games, which is good to see..

To me he looked like one of the few that did care. Some great tackles during the match.

I meant how he looked after the final whistle, it was the look of "ah well at least I played alright.. 2 weeks until Barbados"

Ah, right. Didnt see that. If so thats not good. I hate it when our players are all friendly and smiley after losing or not winning. It should fucking hurt not getting 3 points, or no CL for that matter.

I'm of the belief that the problem is more systemic than to do with personnel.

Players will make mistakes - the best players are more focused, more aware and make less, but they still do.

Rodgers plays a system that seems to expose our defenders time and time again.

It works if we're banging in goals - i think we've conceded less than last year - but obviously scored a lot less.

So - scoring more would be good.

That and sorting out defending at set pieces.
