The Croatia international says he understands the criticism he has received but feels he has changed supporters' opinions

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren says the club's fans have realised his worth to the team and regret their initial opinions of him.

The 26-year-old moved to Anfield in the close season from Southampton for a reported £20 million after impressing at St Mary's Stadium.

However, the defender has divided the opinion of Liverpool fans since his arrival but is currently enjoying a new lease of life under Klopp.

"The fans now have me in a different view," the 26-year-old told Sportske. "I think that they are now starting to realise that I am worthy, and they regret that they initially had a different opinion.

"But Liverpool is a big club, and expectations are high, so it is normal that you are going to be criticised.
"I needed someone like Klopp to push me, and to give me support. For such a man, I'm always ready to fight to the end, and for the team and the club."

And just as he was starting to look the part (though a long way from proving it consistently).

Now we're all going to hate him again.

Nah, he's been good since Klopp took over. As long as his performances continue to be good I dont care about an interview like this.

Cheeky bellend.

I'm hoping the lads rip him to shreads in the change rooms over these comments. Idiotic.

Edit.. is it possibly a translation/language error?

Meh, Lynch him!

Don't really think he says anything unreasonable here. The "regret" comment is a little awkward but may well be down to English not being his first language. Lovren has been hugely improved under Klopp, and has surely earned a little tolerance.

I think the interview was done in Croatian with Sportske, which is a Serbian site, and then picked up by Daily Mail, etc. If you feed the original article through Google translate, the result will look very, very familiar - it's almost what you see in the first post ad verbum, so no prizes for guessing how we ended up with the passage.

It's possible he did make that arrogant comment, but just as likely that the translation wasn't accurate but confirmation bias kicked in.

I'm glad he's playing better but we're talking about 5 games where he's looked particularly good, and now he's injured. I know we live in a much more short-termist era but I'd rather wait until he's had a season or more of consistent high standard performances before I change my opinion of him.

It would be even better if he was part of a good centre back partnership.

Well, I've seen enough under Klopp that I'd keep him next season.
New CB, Gomez, Sakho and Lovren. Sell Skrtel. Kolo free transfer.

Yeah, I checked it in Croatian, it's translated accurately. He also said he was surprised that he wasn't called up to the Croatian national squad recently, he didn't talk much with the manager but expects to be called up next time.

Big dig at Rodgers here: "For such a man, I'm always ready to fight to the end"

Not sure about that TBH. The consensus on here seemed (rightly IMO) to be that Rodgers kept picking Lovren for longer than his form deserved.
