The Liverpool manager said: "There is nothing imminent just yet, not that I am aware of, but hopefully things will progress over the next couple of days. It may take one or two moves to spark everything off. I want players in sooner rather than later, it is important to get the group together as quickly as possible, but if not we will just have to be patient. I'd be happy as long as we have some in before the end of August.

"I have also looked at one or two loan deals from abroad. There are some quality players in that market that I have inquired about. The make-up of the group will change before the season starts and that will change the dynamic of the team also."

But how do one interpret that comment? Why do we need loan deals? It is purely because that we cannot afford to buy good players.

I'd interpret it as meaning we can't afford 25-30M to buy them (not that our Themn would cost more than a jammy dodger) but we can afford to pay them £5m a year in salary (same as if we'd bought them) without the risk of them not panning out.

It doesn't really matter though, if we thought Adebayor was capable of doing well for us this season why not take a punt on his 175k a week for year ? If we make the CL it's worth it.

It's not worth it to take him on a 4 year deal at that money though. That would be awful

Good point. Spurs paid 70-80k of his wages. I'd happily have him on loan for a year.
