Liverpool have won the race to sign Wycombe teenage sensation Jordan Ibe.
The Reds have beaten a host of other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Spurs, to the signature of one of the hottest prospects in the Football League.
The 16-year-old, who shot to fame by scoring a wonder strike against Sheffield Wednesday in October, is in his final year at secondary school in South London and will make the move to Merseyside next summer for a fee of around £500,000.
It is believed that the League One outfit decided cash in on the teenager before the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) comes into effect at the start of next season. The plan will see tribunals replaced with set tariffs for homegrown players.

Born in London on 8 December 1995

Attracted national attention with eye-catching performances for Wycombe's reserves in the summer of 2011

He made his senior debut as a substitute in a League Cup tie with Colchester in August

Handed his first senior start in a 2-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday in October

He scores in the game, becoming the youngest Wycombe player to do so since the club entered the Football League in 1993

Wycombe forward Jordon Ibe, the club's youngest Football League goalscorer, has been backed to become a Premier League star by his boss Gary Waddock.

The 15-year-old netted in his first senior start on Saturday, a 2-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday.

"We just want to make sure he goes on and fulfils that potential he's got," Waddock told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"And possibly, with the talent he's got, he could go and play at the highest level."

The Wycombe youth product had already made six substitute appearances for the Chairboys before the visit of the Owls.

But the youngster, who attracted reported attention from Manchester United in the summer, rewarded Waddock's faith in him, scoring in the first half with a superb run and finish, 10 days short of his 16th birthday.

"If it was a senior player you'd be saying 'what a fantastic goal'," the Wycombe boss continued.

"He's 15 and to do that on your debut tells you the quality the lad's got.

"He trains with us and we see the talent he's got every time he's in our training sessions, and why not [start him]?

"I took the age out of it and looked at the player on merit and he deserves his chance. Did he take it? He certainly did."

Ibe's jubilant celebrations were temporarily tarnished when he received a yellow card from referee Chris Sarginson for rushing over to his family, who were in the Adams Park stands.

Jordon Ibe Wonder Strike!!

Waddock is convinced the youngster can cope with rising expectation among Blues fans about his talent and is adamant he will be nurtured properly through the Adams Park ranks.

“He is a level-headed and mature young man,” he said. “It is the summer holidays so it is not getting in the way of his school work. Physically, he doesn't look like a 15-year-old and he is a very good player.

“The most important thing is that he is good enough to be in the group. The players have taken to him and the fans know what a good player he is but we have to be very careful with how we manage his development.

“When we use him it has to be at the right time and I felt Tuesday was the right time and he responded to that.

He has no fear and is very positive in his play. He was relishing that opportunity to play in a competitive game and he took his chance well.

Skilful attacker Jordon Ibe became the youngest ever player to represent the Blues since entering the Football League in the Carling Cup clash with Colchester United in August, aged just 15 years and 244 days.

The teenager had been a regular in the club's under 18 squad before being called up for first-team action in the 2011/12 campaign, scoring a fantastic strike in a friendly against Staines Town and featuring against a Chelsea side including Ashley Cole and John Terry.

Ibe continues to be eligible for the under 18 and senior squads.

Liverpool win race to sign Wycombe teen star

A bit early to get excited over a player who still hasn't lost his baby teeth but sure it's nice that we (still) are trying to find the gems.

The new Barnes.

*He does look a bit like him doesn't he?

**Off to buy an Ibe-shirt

great we're now doing this consistently. looks quite the prospect, although guess he'll lose that physical advantage a bit (not entirely) as he gets older.

there was another one talked about, a young black midfielder from MK Dons (i think), again with an african name. did we actually sign him or are we just favourites?

Re: Liverpool win race to sign Wycombe teen star

Oji or summit?

yeh, just this second looked him up, Seyi Ojo. eng u16 player, only 14 years old.

so we've got Raheem Sterling, Jerome Sinclair, Seyi Ojo and now this Jordan Ibe, all 14-16, all brought in in the last 18 months or so, all english, all very highly rated, and - crucially - all as black as you want.

i really think that's fantastic. great we're finally doing this, and beating other clubs to it - these top youngsters are now obviously seeing us as one of THE clubs to go to, which is most super.
