Liverpool Vs Notts County Match Thread.

Lets be honest, on ALL the evidence of the last 12 months Henderson should be first choice centre mid.
And get to play wherever the fuck he pleases.
Id like to see him do a Lampard. But that means Gerrard playing wider.

I said he reminded me of lampard to woland in the harry last season.

He looked like he was gonna hit me.

What the fuck were the fucking paramedics doing crowding around Kolo as if to hide his body from the crowd or some shit. It was hard to enjoy the game after that.

Rodgers said in the press conference that Skrtel 'is fine, tonight was too soon, but he's back in training and should be okay for the weekend'.

That's good news.
I'd rather bring Jockey back than start Wisdom against the mancs.

Just a few little points from last night:

Stevie was totally fucked with 80 mins on the clock.
Henderson played like a boss when he came on.
Magic did my fucking head in, the amount of times he gave the ball away in good positions was unreal.
I thought we were gone when we went down to 10 men, but oh no not this Liverpool side!

Three muscle tears / strains in one game and players not match fit all over the gaff? Definitely fitness questions to be asked of fitness coach. May be nought but still.

Last night was a mess.

Rodgers went with 4-3-3 with Sterling and Ibe either side of Sturridge and Allen, Alberto and Gerrard backing them up. Unfortunately Alberto seemed overwhelmed by the occasion, Gerrard stopped playing after 2-0 (it looked like he was just waiting to be subbed) and Allen played in fits-and-starts.

When Rodgers used the 4-3-3 with Swansea Sinclair and Dyer played either side of Danny Graham and they had back up from the midfield trio of Britton, Allen and Augistien; it worked because Sinclair and Dyer didn't always try and beat their man, they regularly interchanged passes with the midfield trio and stretched teams all sorts of directions.

After 30 minutes our midfield trio stopped playing leaving Ibe and Sterling relatively unsupported, they continually ran into brick walls because their intentions became obvious.

That was one of the worst 1st division teams I've seen for a long time and to need extra time to beat them was embarrassing but at least we did beat them.

In the whole scheme of things this game is irrelevant but I hope Rodgers learned a few lessons last night......

1. Gerrard should not be playing midweek games anymore
2. Ibe is nowhere near ready for 1st team action
3. Sterling needs to go out on loan to a Premier league club to get more playing time
4. Either buy a RB or promote McLaughlin because Glenjo needs some serious competition for that position and maybe then he'll start playing well again (I realise Glenjo played LB for most of the game but the point is still valid).

If one thing was obvious from last night, Sterling has matured a hell of alot as a player and should be pushing for a chance. I don't see any point in loaning him out when he clearly has enough to offer now.

I'm still not convinced about him Mark, he has improved and will improve further no doubt but I see him maturing into a Sean Wright-Phillips, Nathan Dyer type of player which is okay I suppose but not as good as I'd originally hoped.

Fair points, but I'm with Mark on this. In Sterling's case there's some grit to go with the skill - he works hard and knows how to put his foot in - so I'm hopeful he'll turn out better than those two, and I would definitely include him against ManUre.

Anyone else think we're trying to play like B.Dortmund but still quite haven't got the fluidity or passing right? On occasions the ball moves so fast between players, that the recipient player has no idea what to do as a result possession is lost.

Stevie didn't seem to get started. Very odd. I know he's playing deeper at the moment and is showing excellent discipline that often gets confused with lack of ambition and/or energy, but last night he really looked like he was trying to walk his way through the game.

Could have had one eye on United.

Yes. I noticed that too. It's like pinball central at times.

Sums up our feelings after the match.

@Pesam

I was at the game mate and haven't seen it back on TV yet but the Notts county right back really impressed me, didn't catch his name though. What's your opinion on him? Lightening quick, a bit short though!

On behalf of the Society of Black Lawyers, I declare Liverpool Football Club GUILTY - of fielding no fewer than SEVEN - yep, count 'em, 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 - SEVEN black players in their starting line-up last night! Con-gratulations!

This is Johnny Cochran, and you are watchin' Six Crazy Minutes!!

Yeah, I don't think the midfield combo's help though, I thought they (again) looked off the rhythm in comparison to the rest of their team mates, particularly Allen and at times Gerrard. Gerrard funnily looked like he was from a completely different breed to the rest, in that he was trying to play it long, trying to spread the play with 30 yard balls and generally trying to be more direct, while those around him tried to play with a bit more subtlety. Just shows how much our game has changed in terms of style and reliance on the big man.

It then begs the question, did we let Nuri Sahin go too early?

Perhaps I'm in a minority but I thought that Gerrard was running the show in the first half. The likes of Allen were very keen to give him the ball (perhaps to their detriment) and he seemed to pop up everywhere. Wasn't it his pass that put Sturridge in for his first goal as well?

It made me think that even at the age of 33, Steven Gerrard still looks a better player when he has more freedom and can get closer to goal.

His passing was top notch last night.
He was finding the spaces between the full backs and center backs all night to which Johnson benefited from.
I don't know whether he was lackadaisical or just plain wrecked but his performance dropped by 50% after the break.

Good call Pete, I was going to highlight a few players before the game but never got around to it. The 2 I was going to highlight positively were the RB Dumbuya and the CM'er Labadie (who I rate but gets dropped from time-to-time!). Dumbuya has played for quite a few teams over the last 2 or 3 seasons and I think he doesn't stay anywhere too long becaue he wants to play at a higher level and I reckon he can. He's very quick, very good on the ball, good going forward and very strong in the tackle. I'm not sure he'll ever make it to the Premier League but he's easily good enough for the Championship.

The 2 I was gonna say we're dodgy were the CB Manny Smith who is cumbersome and careless and the CM'er Fotheringham who's a rather insignificant presence in the midfield; strangely we made both of them look half decent last night :-(
