Liverpool Vs Man City Capital One Cup Final - Match Thread

I'd be tempted to bring on Origi for Firmino. Play the diamond, and let Coutinho float in the middle. Origi to stretch the City CBs and make space for Sturridge.

Half time thoughts:

  • Oliver is having a good game - and he hasn't made any mistakes. However, he really should have given Fernandinho and Lucas both yellow. Too many fouls that deserve that.
  • Mign's save on Aguero was good - very good. That's what has kept this game 0-0.
  • It was obvious from Sakho's reaction the moment he hit Can that he was hit really badly .... Concussion.
  • Happy with how we're harassing their players all the time - we'll need that for 90 (or 120) minutes to have a chance to win.
  • They're a better team than us - but I think we can still win this.

Don't agree about the referee. Not all his decisions have been wrong, but some deffo have been and we've been the main victims.

Firmino has been good though. Studge will probably last about 70-75 mins

We don't have much width. Don't see how we change it up though. I'd imagine lallana will come on at 60 mins

Yeah, Firmino hasn't been bad. But I can't see us breaking down Kompany and their two DMs unless we bring in someone who can pull away with pace.

Perhaps not strange, but is central defense Lucas' position to lose?
If we invest in a DM this summer, Lucas and Matip as CBs? Crazy talk maybe, but he's been solid as a rock in this game.

It looks like both sides' most creative and dangerous players have been well shackled and given little wiggle room; often, double cover has been quick to come down on them when they get the ball. I think we need to take some chances pulling the trigger earlier sometimes instead of looking for the extra pass. I've somehow got a hunch that Milner and Henderson could be the one to open them up with a diagonal ball from deep, sending it behind the defence for one of the front three to latch on.

He's done well overall when put back there. This is obviously his biggest test as a CB yet but it's not as ridiculous an idea as it would have sounded at the beginning of the year.
