Liverpool Vs Man City Capital One Cup Final - Match Thread

After the devastation and despair of losing the League 2 years ago I'm sort of numb to any Liverpool related losses and suchlike, but that today was a proper kick in the balls. Gutted.

At least we didn't freeze. That was what I was dreading happening. Like against Villa last season. I shouldn't have been fearing such a thing, but that's how dodgy this squad is. Coutinho is wildly over-rated at present, he's got about two things he's half good at - not much of a magician. Studge and Hendo badly need to get themselves fit and recover their momentum. Firmino - I'm still none the wiser what he is. The one bright spot is Origi, who is starting to look way more promising than I expected.

A bit over the top considering that we've seen the likes of Vignal and Konchesky at left back but Moreno's positioning today was borderline amateur. He's 24 years old and he still doesn't understand the fundamentals.
It was fucking annoying to see him play today.

I've said it before, I'll say it again...

Pound for pound, Moreno is the worst left back to ever play for us. I've never seen a footballer so ill-suited to playing in defence in all my years of watching football. He has not once single clue how to play at left-back.

I've been saying this for months and months and months. Good of you to join the party.

He's worse than stig inge bjornebye 🙂

Moreno shouldn't have left so much space for their goal even if Mignolet fucked up. Its basic, basic stuff

Other than that I feel like its a collection of players that don't know each other well enough. We've chopped and changed an unbelievable amount, and it shows. Its unfortunate that we'll need a couple of years with the same 18 before we get boss I reckon. There's a massive lack of cohesive play, especially in the box. We lose the ball so much not realising where the other player will be in the box, and no one runs in behind. I hope we don't sign another 9 players in the summer

Also, Sturridge played well too deep for me today. When theres a striker hanging off their defence we look a lot better. If he's further forward he doesn't have to beat 5 men to score

"good of you to join the party"

"JOIN THE PARTY"

JOIN THE FUCKING PARTY?!

Dreamy. Never ever ever efuckingver have I joined your fucking party. As if it's not bad enough losing a Cup Final, and having to sit through minute after minute of that fucking handicapped Spanish fucktruck lose us yet another game, I now have the ignominy of you trying to tell me that I - me, the person who is not you - am following your fucking lead on something?!

If ever in doubt Dreamy, bear this in mind as your default; you started fuck all. Nothing. You never initiated anything erstwhile or revealing on this site in your miserable life. And you certainly didn't do any of those things BEFORE I FUCKING DID YOU FUCKING MORON.

The fucking nerve of it.

You think Dreamy hit a nerve?

He's a joke mate. That tackle (can we call it a tackle?) that should have been a penalty, or that challenge that he does where he basically dives on his back and sticks a leg out hoping for the best, I don't think I've seen worse defensive play from a player at this level. He needs to fucking go.

It wasn't a particularly good performance really. We didn't have a shot on target until the goal, we had two strikers sat on the bench until the 79th minute or whatever and low and behold, minutes after putting one of them on, we scored.

They could have been out of sight though, had Sterling and Aguero buried the 4 clear cut chances they had or had the penalty been given. It was for the most part as typically timid as we have been in some of our poorer games.

I thought Milner worked his bollocks off but his deliveries were poor. Mignolet did some heroics but what's the point when there's always a costly mistake lurking in there?

If anything, it just highlighted what we already know, we need a quite a few better players.

My point is, reaching the final wasn't all down to Klopp. We've ridden our luck along the way and the players, who I've been as critical of as anyone on the site, deserve at least some credit.
Sorry Peggy, yes of course they do. The manager pulls the tactical strings, but ultimately it's what the eleven on the field do.

Regards to Moreno, the reason he always seem to get caught out is because he's always so far up the pitch, he's practically our only outlet on the left with Coutinho cutting inside all the time. Fair enough, he shouldn't be up there if he's leaving himself completely exposed, but could this positioning / attacking intent not be under orders from Klopp?

First the committee give us Enrique, then Moreno, Its worrying to think who the committee have lined up next for the left back position….

You can disagree all you like mate but ask the best. Stevie loved to hit it in that zone and practiced for that top right (or left) corner all the time - for a very good reason, this one match proves nothing. And sorry but Newton disagrees with you too 😉

One penalty taker doesn't prove anything either, besides which Stevie's penos took a while to settle down. He did become very good at them but I'd lay heavy odds he was in a minority in regularly hitting them high, and for good reason.

Unfortunately the shape of my gut these days provides ample corroboration of Newton's theory. However, I'm sure he'd have known the difference between an apple falling and a person jumping up to scrump one off the tree. 😛

I've been banging this drum for ageeeeeeees, and thought I was alone apart from your even-handed inputs Mark. Now it turns out i've got both Dreamy and Ryan for company - just as it seems there is some unrequited man love and furious flirting going on between them which is reaching volcanic proportions.

Moreno is an embarrassment - he simply doesn't have it in him as a full back (maybe more suited to wing back??? But even then he will have to do an impression of defensive work now and again).

I have him down in the same bracket as Mignolet yesterday, in that his good stuff isnt anywhere near positive enough to outweigh his shit stuff.

Rushing every free kick further than 25 yards out... I mean taking the quick option when there's zero reason to and no advantage to be had, every time... I thought it was a weird Rodgers obsession, but it's still happening. Do you reckon Klopp looked at it and thought... 'that's good carry on'... or thought... 'that's what I do, isn't it cool that they already do what I do.' or is too busy cuddling them all and dancing etc that he hasn't noticed?

I think a lot of the mentality and issues with these players will take a while to change. Its still the same bunch of lads that have been losing games with ease for the last 18 months. We at least turned up and gave them a fight yesterday, and came back from 0-1. That wouldnt have happened under Rodgers.

Gerrard hit most of his penalties low.

What is Ryan's problem with the word "erstwhile"? He's now used it in several different contexts, but never the right one.

Nah sorry mate. There was even a time on TV he described how he practiced for hours after official practice and it was always with one of those plastic weebles or whatever, blocking the lower half - maybe it was on LFCTV ? Maybe Youtube will have it.
