The 2 best things from the match were:

1. Basel's away fans - quality active support. Love it.

2. Stevie G's goal.

Yeah we went out of the competition and that was disappointing but who cares, at least their fans were aces. Defo the best thing from the match for me too mate.

Take my post however you want.

Their fans were fucking brilliant ... from start to finish ... and that goes a long way in helping a side like Basel getting the result they needed away from home.

In terms of the result, I'm not gonna sit here and bitch & moan about it - fact is we didn't deserve it today, we didn't deserve it over the course of the entire group stage.

Was just teasing you man. I'm thoroughly dejected from that game. From the team selection to the result. Their fans were indeed vocal, fair play to them. I just didn't love it as much as you. I'm more concerned with how shit we are.

All good no problems mate.

I'm just as concerned as you are but it's just got to the point where I'm not even going to bother discussing how rubbish we are because it only adds to the depression.

In regards to the away fans, I'm a big fan in general of active support - something which is pretty much non-existent in England (maybe Palace have got something going which is similar) ... for me it's such a big part of the game, I love it ... football has no soul without that kind of fanaticism.

So I'm interested in knowing what people think was the turning point in our performance in the match.

Was it Coutinho coming on? Was it the red card? Was it the goal?

Our performance in the last 25 minutes, with 10 players, was a lot more like last season without a quick, lethal striker on the end of it. We play like that last 25 minutes with 11 players against the mancs and Arsenal then we'll win both matches. The first 65 minutes was atrocious and will see us get spanked by both of them.

I am still trying to work out why BR spent £25 million on an attacker that he doesn't trust to even come off the bench when we're chasing the game in a must win match.
Mindboggling.

That was strange, I think it was the red card, we suddenly looked transformed, energized even. Maybe the transition to underdogs alleviated expectation and we started to chase down everything sensing a comeback.

Transpose the last 15' for the first 15' and we're back to the start of games last season. I'm mystified why we're starting so slowly and nervously - no momentum is being created. I think you do need to swarm opponents to create spaces.

I think we probably started playing well when it was a lost cause but Moreno and Markovic coming on gave us a lot more dynamism. Rodgers has done this a fair few times - picked a team that's done poor in the first half and had to change it dramatically at half time.

I thought it was odd, & perhaps telling, that Lovren looked very inch the player I saw last season when he was left at the back almost literally on his own for the last 15 minutes.

I thought Lovren looked good yesterday. We'll need him to play like that vs Utd

If he stuck his hand out and the guy ran into him thats one thing, but that isnt what happened, he waited and measured the guy to make sure he was going to hit him, it was a pussy move and he deserved to walk by the rules of the game. Ref could have been lenient with him had he not shown such mind blowingly obvious intent to do it

Actually he deserved a red on the merits of completely fucking stupidity alone.
