Liverpool v United

Utd won't win the league or CL this season.

Mourinho's ship has sailed.
People always say that about him....and then he suddenly wins a league or CL. I get its his third year melt down sequence but united is a different project for him than previous clubs. Just remember all of you that despite their bad football...they still finished 2nd and were the only other team to beat city in the league.

Hes won one league in 7 years. Managing Madrid, Chelsea and United.
Hes won zero champions leagues in 9 years in spite of managing the two richest clubs in the world.
And if that wasnt bad enough the managers who followed him into 2 of those clubs won 4 champions leagues between them.

So maybe jump off his dick.

Anyway. You know youre in great shape when you cant decide which players in your team to put in your fantasy team
Alisson
Van dijk
Robertson
Trent
Keita
Shaqiri
Mane
Bobby
Salah
Fuck sake!! Can only have 3 redmens

I went Mane, Salah and Trent.

If Shaqiri really does start as a 10 though he could be the pick of the bunch.

Last season everyone needed Salah to keep in touch. Mane could be the best alternative.

Its so when he is great they can say ‘where are all the haters now, I was here from day one’ blah blah blah.
Internet forum 101 innit.
No it's simply because I didn't feel the need to mention names or out anyone specific. Hence "people".

I bet you a zillion squid this becomes a polarising debate on here.

This aint our first time at the rodeo.

Yawn.

Not that I am, but if you can't take it, don't dish it. And you're not shy dishing it, my son.
Dont play the innocent.
‘Did you really just type that’ followed by ‘Why so het up’ is deliberate goading. Pack it on or get banned. Ok? Cool.

As I say, don't dish it out if you can't take it. And it appears you cannae take it, so you know what to do.

I am not dishing anything out. Youre baiting and intentionally winding other posters up. So please stop doing it.
Everyone else seems to be getting along famously.
Thanks Oli.

Would straight up insults work better for you?

Like 'spastic' and the like? I'll happily revert to your own MO, if that will help.

I dont really mind what you say to me Oli. Im talking about you baiting another poster and being an intentional WUM. Please dont do it anymore. It just causes arguments.

Obviously Brendan almost always takes the other path of saying every player is shit when we sign them safe in the knowledge he will either be proved right or he can say they have improved and needed to.

Ive never seen him say from day one a player is ace or hes excited to have him. So probably deserves the scepticism to be fair.

But still.
Person/People

I've not really made any definitive statement about Fabinho, I've seen him play once. I made a comment about him playing really deep, and talked about his previous season in Monaco, where his form suffered at the start, backed up by the usual facts and actual statements, when I was questioned about it.

One of the quotes was, brilliantly, actually from Fabinho himself, talking about how he missed Bakayoko and his initial struggles. So what happened is that I made an observation, it started a debate, and then I introduced context and evidence.

As for being 'excited by players' or claiming they will be ace - well no, not usually, unless I've seen them play quite a few times, because that would be stupid otherwise.

But of more recent signings I was certainly extremely confident about Mane, and was happy with Salah, Virgil, Milner et al also.

Everyone's favourite signing Keita seems the one least likely to disappoint, but that's not really based on much as far as my own opinion goes, as I've seen him play as often as Fabinho. I have the highest hopes for the goalkeeper obviously.

Klopp's musings:

On Shaqiri’s stunning goal…
It was good, obviously. That’s not normal after four days at the club. He adapted that well to the style of play. We wanted to help him a little bit with a position that was not too complicated and gave him a lot of freedom offensively, playing naturally plus offering runs in behind, which we did, especially around the first goal in the second half. Daniel Sturridge’s goal was a nice little offer; he saved the ball and passed to Daniel to finish. It was better than I would have expected, to be honest, but I think today was a game where it was quite easy to come in for pretty much all of them because we played really good football over 90 minutes on a very, very difficult pitch for both teams. The ball doesn’t bounce properly, it was very dry. That makes football difficult. But we still played simply and quickly and kept them moving. That was good. After the Dortmund game I didn’t feel good but I knew I didn’t have to make it bigger than it is – it’s a pre-season game so if you make mistakes you should lose, that’s OK. If you learn from it, that’s good as well. Today we don’t make it bigger, of course – it was a pre-season game, but it was a good game and from that point of view I am happy with it.

On how important Sturridge will be this season…
He decides that, pretty much. That’s how it always is with players. You can see that he is enjoying himself in the moment. The most important thing, we always said, is that Daniel stays fit. The reason he only played half an hour today was just that it was an intense week for us and I didn’t want to go with any risk with him. Usually we could say 60 minutes for him today would have been OK, but he was so good in the last few weeks for us – so no risk. He was obviously fresh when he came in and enjoyed the game. Together with Shaqiri, he enjoyed a lot; Ojo and Ben on the offensive wings were involved in all situations, that was really flexible and good. We will see. Hopefully [he will be] very important, to be honest.

On whether he’s spoken to Sturridge about his role this season…
I don’t have to, that’s clear. We have a fantastic relationship, that’s how it is. I like him a lot as a person and as a player especially. He is an outstanding player. When I came here, I was very excited about the fact I will work together with him back in 2015. Since then he has had a few injury issues and we couldn’t change that, he couldn’t change that, it happened. A lot of others improved. When I came in one problem of the club was that Daniel would train two days and then everyone would ask if he can play the next game after six weeks with an injury. I said, ‘no chance, he needs to train’ because that’s how I understand the game. I am completely open to individualising training and saying ‘you do that, you have to do that more’. There is no doubt about his quality, if Daniel Sturridge is fit, he will play a role in the team, 100 per cent. Does he have to play 50-something games? No. But hopefully a few really good ones. That’s the plan.

On whether he will look to add further defenders to his squad this summer…
This summer? No, I am happy with our players, to be honest, so I don’t see the need. When you see Joe Gomez playing in that role tonight as a central defender, he combines a lot of things you don’t find in the transfer market, to be honest. I can’t see in the moment the need, but there are 12 days to go and a lot of things can happen. You ask me now and I say no, but maybe if you ask me tomorrow I will say something different.

On whether he will look to loan out some young players this summer…
I would say it makes sense if we talk about these things with the players and not in the press conference. Yes, all the young boys who came on today are in really good shape this pre-season, to be honest. They had little holes because of the intensity. Sheyi is a really confident boy as he showed tonight, not only around the penalty when he sent Daniel Sturridge away! You have to be really confident to do that! Pedro Chirivella in the No.6, a fantastic football player. Marko Grujic together with him organising the whole pitch pretty much. Curtis Jones played his first game as a full-back in front of 100,000 people – I would have been nervous, he wasn’t. Rafa Camacho plays a pre-season that is just fantastic, mostly as a full-back which he’d never played before, so they’ve learned a lot. Ben Woodburn is 100 per cent back, for example. How it is with young boys, from time to time the improvement doesn’t go day by day, but he has played such a good pre-season. Nat Phillips, my god – what a pre-season he has played! These boys are completely open. What we will do with that and when, we will see.

On the importance of having the new players play in pre-season friendlies…
Very important, we don’t have more time because the season starts shortly, so it’s very important they can get minutes. For Shaq, in the moment he signed he wanted to stay immediately with Liverpool and train with us, one week after he finished the World Cup. We had to tell him no, go [on holiday]. When he came back this week, he was really excited and for him it’s a very good moment in his career. He was at Bayern, was at Stoke, was at Inter, important moments in his career. Now we have him and he can play with a few really nice football players. Fabinho struggled physically because he wants to do everything at 100 per cent. He was really tired, but yesterday, we saw it in training he had fresher legs. What a fantastic player he will be for us. It’s not only the new players; football is all about tuning to bring all these different skills together. Tonight it worked out well but we will not overestimate. It’s only a pre-season friendly and we will play again and then we need to be ready again.

Sturridge:

Speaking after the game, the forward sounded a note of caution when reflecting on his recent form - no doubt giving some consideration to his past fitness issues.
However, he could not completely quell his positivity, and told Liverpoolfc.com:

"I just wanted to work hard through the summer.
"[You come] back, work hard in pre-season, and try and help your team be successful - and that’s what it’s all about.
"I ain’t getting too excited. I’ve got a positive mentality and I’m just focusing on improving because you can never stop improving.
"It’s a great group of lads [and] it’s important for us to keep moving forward.
"I feel good, I won’t deny it, but I understand it’s a long season too, there’s a lot of games, and I’m excited.
"I’m looking forward to the future [and] what I can do and help the team."

On the captaincy:

"I said this the last time I was captain [against Blackburn], it’s a great feeling," he added.
"I’ve been here a long time to be fair and it’s the longest I’ve stayed at one team in my professional career since Manchester City in the youth days.
"As a professional, this is the longest I’ve ever been with a team and this has always been my home.
"When you step outside sometimes it’s good to step away and come back with a fresh mentality and a new mindset and that’s the reason for me going away.
"I never wanted to leave but I knew I had to, to try and get more minutes but now I’m back here to give it my all, to help us win something – that’s everybody’s aim, we want to win a trophy and that’s what we are focused on."

On the Ojo penalty:

"You know what it was, I looked over [to the touchline] and the gaffer was like ‘go ahead’ [but], Sheyi, it’s good for his confidence and also it’s a big stage as well for younger players.
"For myself obviously I’ve played in big arenas and I’m not being cocky, I think for the younger players to get the confidence is good.
"He was confident as well and he wanted to take it so if you show the confidence and want to step up then I’m not going to stand in your way.
"I’m not greedy for the goals, it’s about sharing it around and everyone feeling good about themselves and everyone feeling a part of it. That’s what it’s all about."
