Fabio: really? Then WTF was Mr.Fistpump looking at when Lamela started his run, because Lamela wasn't anywhere near the pitch of the ball when van Dijk went to clear it?
Player goes to shield the ball (as people do give space when a balls dropping from high) as it's falling, kicked by a defender

It's very very easy to imagine that scenario as a ref

Maybe, but it won't be a reflection of him. We don't have the financial muscle to compete with the big spenders.

It's six of one, half a dozen of the other really. He hasn't sorted the defense, though I think VVD and Robertson are good buys, but it's taken forever to sort out and it's still not there, Matip, Karius and Klavan have been pretty woeful and he's still persisting with Lovren and Mignolet. Gini's a mixed bag, as is £40m AOC, Mane and Salah are fantastic. On the other hand, we have a zero net spend, so he's had to sell to buy. I had the same mixed sort of thoughts about Benitez, people banged on a about net spend then, but he'd spent fairly big and didn't address key issues or prioritise the right positions (we were forever short of a decent winger).

We were struggling in defense but spent £40m on AOC, while there's alot of untapped potential there, I don't think he was an absolute necessity, it could have gone on a keeper or another defender.

If time were on his side, then our gradual progress would be fine, but we know too well that top players don't stick around here, they won't wait for three to five year plans. So he has to start buying for the priority positions we all know need filling, now. Selling Coutinho and waiting for the next transfer window could backfire badly for him and the club. It might not, we might get away with it, but the points between 3rd and 5th are tight and we really needed to inject new energy into the side, as everyone else around us has. Time will tell if it was worth the gamble.

Being abused by the forum's joke anti-fan is almost a badge of pride. Fuck right off yourself.

Think I will just let this go because I really have no idea what the fuck you are talking about. You are a clown. Carry on dissing 2 of our best ever players you tit but I have far better things to be doing than listening to wankers like you.

Way to let it go, Raz.

Oxlade-Chamberlain's performance fucking killed me.

Way off the pace, misplacing passes, didn't get involved, then got done for Wanyama's goal cos he was flat-footed and picking his hole. If you see it on replay again watch his fucking ham-fisted effort - pathetic.

He carries on in post-match interviews about "not being happy with his performance" and seems like a genuinely decent guy, but it's performances like that which see him sit on the bench. He had a spot in the side there for a month, and a couple of mediocre games saw James fucking Milner come in for him. And then he serves up that shit when coming in for 30-odd minutes.

An infuriating player.

It's not the worst result, but it's a bitter pill to swallow.

I'm not going to get all fucking revved up about about whether we finish 4th again, but I am really motivated to not be in the europa league. It's going to be hard to know when we should intentionally begin dropping points to achieve that end, so I guess we should probably try to win the remaining games.

Just caught up after being out this evening.

I'm not reading the whole thread so probably repeating what others have said..
Firstly we were shit all night. We got outplayed at home but Spurs and barely deserved a point.

We gave away a couple of spawny penalties, the first one looked offside when the ball was slid through so annoying that was given, but we saved that anyway.

The second one was definitely a pen. Seen a lot of noise on Facebook saying it wasn't. I can't see that, he kicked the lad in the calf with his toe and then dragged his leg back. Damage was already done. No way you don't give a pen for that.

Our game management as usual was piss. Our subs were piss. And Klopps Insistence on going defensive in games when we CANNOT FUCKING DEFEND is infuriating.

Shit game. A point is I guess a decent takeaway.

We.need a good win against Southampton.

We weren't outplayed all night.

The first half we dominated without making that domination count.

Had we gone in two or three up no one would have been surprised, & we would but for a couple of poor final balls & Mane & Salah both exhibiting a rare poor first touch.

The second half they were the better side without question, but failed to really make even a decent attempt until an hour into the game.

Salah for us and Dembele for them are the stand out players.

dembele just ghosts past anyone in his way answas generally a pita for his 60 odd minutes.

That Salah goal, wowzers... It's a crying shame it didn't win the game , not seen back the second peno , was it fair ? I was torn at the time.

Also Dele repeatedly getting caught cheating needs the fucking book thrown at him

Fuck Dembele ... one of the biggest cunts out there ... He's a talented fuck mind you, but he's been a thorn in our side for eons and Suarez probably should have bitten him and not Ivanovic! 😉

I told everyone years ago when he was at Fulham that we should have signed. Dembele is no joke.

Pretty much this. Our forwards were more frustrating than our defence today...

That's a penalty.

If that was at the other end we'd be furious if it wasn't given.

Lamella trying to get his body between VDV & the ball to control.

Mistake by VVD - he didn't need to swipe at the ball - in an otherwise good performance from him.
Yeah, but what I saw there was Lamela actually not making an attempt for the ball, but actually looking to jump into VVD's leg.

I guess it depends on what you're focusing on.

I can see why it was given; he invited contact and got it, so I have no problem with the ref giving it. I can also see how a another ref can justify it as being a correct decision. Refs know the rules, they don't seem to know the game.

However, PLAYING FOOTBALL for 30 odds years, I also know the referee was conned. Lamela wasn't upended trying to get a strike at goal. It wasn't a foul deserving of a penalty. He saw VVD was in the prcoess of kicking the ball, and he was "clever" and quick enough to jump into his leg as he was doing it.

Suarez was brilliant as these sort of cons. "Smart play" on the continent.

Lamela's reaction after the ref didn't initially give it tells it's own story.

Barely any contact (if at all):

Oh and Lamela was offside too:

He makes a meal of it but gets kicked so its a pen for me. So infuriating - another individual mistake costing us big time.

We were awful in the second half - we couldn't keep the ball to save our lives and just kept twatting it back to them.

The Matip sub killed us though - it was shouting out for some fresh (and pacey) legs up front to offer a threat on the break. Quite telling that Spurs' subs brought them both goals. Ours meanwhile, were all awful. However, our bench was shite and I'm pretty fearful for the rest of the season as we have no depth up front. Hopefully that front 3 stay fit or, chances are, we're fucked.

I think Firmino looked really tired, but he took off Mane off which only left one direction towards Salah to hoof the ball too. I don't understand why we could not keep the ball - we generally dominate possession even against the good sides.

Anyway I really hope Eric Lamela's arse just falls off - that was a cynical attempt - he actually ran into the front of VVD to get a kick up the arse so he could win that pen. I actually don't even think VVD saw that guy coming in front of him.

Carragher is getting more and more tiresome. When he was playing, he'd pass it around at the back, too scared to play it forward, and then for the benefit of the stands he'd pass it and then point, really melodramatically, forwards, then he'd watch and either ignore the teammate if the pass went well or berate him, again for the fans, if it went badly. He was a damn coward and it infuriates me now when he does his snide critiques these days. They should ban him from covering our games
Fucking ridiculous. You've gone full mental.

This is why VAR is needed, yet a lot of people complain about it.

VAR rules that offside and rules that not a penalty. Cost us 2 points, absolute joke.

Was Virgil?

Many times defenders go up to win a header from corner and have a clash of head without connecting the ball..are those given penalty?

Actually the more galling part was that Lamela was moving away from goal to contest with VVD for a ball he was never going to be the first to get to and the momentum of his lunge means it would have taken special ability to control or have a first time shot off from where he was and how he was going.

Anyway it's fashionable to say look it's our fault for putting us in that position, but that doesn't change it was an absolutely shit call.....probably vindictive shit from the FA for the comments he made about extra time in the cup game with VAR.

He didn't "insist on going defensive". We lost the midfield battle - especially in the second half when Alli and Son started picking up the spaces either side of Henderson - and spurs controlled the game.

Klopp didn't choose defending deep as a tactic, or instruct it - we're simply got outplayed and tried to hang on. When the other team's better than you, you don't really get to choose how you play.

Well - everyone will know how to get a penalty for free now. Don't dive anymore - just make sure you jump in front of a player who has their leg up or is about to, and get a little contact and fall down like a sack of shit. Does not even need to be anywhere near the fucking ball. I hope all the teams were watching and then when they don't get those decisions they can use this game as a term of reference and evidence.

Watched MOTD there. First pen is offside and a dive and he should get a retrospective ban, but the spacker won't because he's EBHK, the golden child, the saviour and defender of all things Great and English.

The second one is a pen, though.

I get that Ross is trolling re VVD and that's fine, fairly humourous and all that.
Fact is, spending 75M on a centre back when you have frugal owners, is wasteful; it should have been spent on the midfield. VVD's not going to make much difference to our defence, never mind 75M's worth of difference.
Spurs walked into town, had 2/3rds possession and looked the better team. Because of their/our midfield. Bit of an indictment when Hendo, after his injury problems and lay offs, is your best midfielder by far.

Spurs were the team in form I have to admit it. But I think we did enough to deserve all three points.

We defended well, even Karius showed an improved and encouraging performance. It's in midfield where we really lost the game. It would have been better to sub Firmino for AoC or Solankieand play Salah and Mane upfront.
